Great little mic! Almost as good as their Podcaster but at half the price. The sound signature is a little different. Not as soft as the podcaster. Which to me sounds more realistic. The podcaster is just a bit too soft for my voice. The podmic suits my deep voice better, I feel that I get a slightly crisper sound from it. I also like the size, it's nice and small. it doesn't take up as much space at the podcaster or similar mics do. The only thing that I don't like is the mount. It isn't as shock resistant as standard shock mounts. Luckily I had a wide shock mount sitting around (from an old mxl 770) that I was able to squeeze the mic into. The screws that hold the included mount are permanent so they are a bit of an eyesore. But it'll do and is way better now. Oh, and if you need a windscreen, I used a cheapo one (also from the mxl 770) that fits perfectly. All in all, this was a great purchase. Also kudos to Guitar Center for having plenty of these mics in stock when no one else online did! As of this writing, it is (still) near impossible to get this mic! ... More

I was unsure about this mic, having already invested in the simply excellent Rode Procaster, but before laying out another $600 for two more of those, I figured these alternative mics would be worth a shot given their attractive price point. If they didn't cut it, I could always return them and just plunk down the extra money for known high quality. Why my hesitation? Check out the YouTube reviews and comparisons. To my untrained ear, the difference was, while subtle, nonetheless noticeable and sharp enough that I felt my brain recoil slightly when the demonstrator switched from the Procaster (or the comparable Shure SM7B) to the Podmic. -One YouTuber explained the difference by way of showing the graphed response curve of each mic; the Procaster has a very smooth curve through the effective frequencies, while the Pocmic has quite a bit of crunchiness on the high end. And you can definitely hear it. The average listener may not notice, but I suspect will still subconsciously feel fatigued by such a sound after a while, and rather than wanting to keep on listening will be more likely to associate a feeling of, Ugh, no thanks! to whoever is unfortunate enough to be speaking through the out-of-box mic. Now, I hoped I'd be able to compensate for that slightly more aggressive upper end with a bit of frequency tweaking and compression through a mixer board. Turns out I was right! By damping down the high and medium end of the waveform, I was easily able to bring the Podmic into close alignment with the Procaster's smoother audio character so that there was effectively no difference between the two (that I could readily detect anyway). Cool. I just saved $300, -plus the Podmic has a superior mounting solution and a very stylish appearance. One other advantage I've discovered to be true with the Podmic; the effective distance the speaker has to be from it is greater than that of the Procaster, so guest speakers unfamiliar with mic usage will be less likely to drop off the map if they aren't right on top of the thing. So I'm quite happy with this mic and I would recommend it to others -with the caveat that it needs some tweaking and compression through a decent mixer to get the best sound. ... More

I needed a third PodMic to augment my Rodecaster starter kit and this didn't disappoint. I'll go into detail about each piece below. The arm handles the weight of the PodMic just fine, although the clamp needs to be fully flush with the surface you're attaching it to. My desk at home is a solid block of wood, so that isn't a problem, but when I've taken it on the road I've had trouble successfully clinching it to some particle board desks with lips. Bring some cardboard to slip under the clamp so you don't damage the surface. The PodMic does its job quite well. Love the built in pop filter - makes this a very beginner-friendly mic if your pod guests aren't used to talking into a microphone. My only complaint is lack of versatility- this mic is so opinionated I think you'd have to be pretty creative to use it for anything other than spoken vocals. Excellent bang for the buck imo and it fits perfectly in the designated slot in the rodecaster's SKB case which I love. The headphones are fine... The sound quality is more than sufficient for podcasting and they're comfy enough to wear for an extended podcast session (extended is a bit of a relative term in podcasting but to me it meant 3 hours). ... This is a rock solid microphone! I use 3 of them as guest mics for my podcast. But honestly, I could use them as my host mic. That said, let's get to the review. First, I was surprised at just how heavy this mic is for its size. It is about 1/2 the size of my Shure SM7B. They easily attach to my Blue Compass Boom arms. It looks very professional. I use a RODECaster Pro to record and produce my podcast. Setup for this mic is very simple because there is a mic preset for the PodMic. I connected them to inputs 2-4 and I was all set. With the PodMic Preset, they were absolutely silent. I was shocked at how well the preset works. Being an "end address" mic, I was expecting some off-axis background noise. But again, to my surprise, there was none. Next, I will get into sound quality. The mic is very good. It's not the best, but it's so much better than I expected in a $100 mic. It sounds crisp and clear, although I think it's sounds a bit to bright. It has a built-in pop filter. That said, "plosives" are definitely an issue with this mic. B&H includes a free pop filter designed specifically for this mic and it helps a lot. Overall, I'm really impressed with this mic. I'm not sure if this is fair, but I think that using it with a RODECaster Pro will give the best results. I would certainly recommend this mic. ... More

So just before SIP I popped into guitar center because I had a hunch I would need to be broadcasting content from home. Great staff guy recommended the Rode Podmic and because my budget was too low for the rode interface he advised i get the more affordable Scarlett interface. Truth is I still haven't done my podcast because after testing the podmic on the scarlett (volume on the soft side but, it pleasant enough) I guess I carelessly left the podmic on my bed and forgot about it and proceeded to get pantoxicated and passed out. In the middle of the night I heard a loud thud - and had no clue. This little thing is HEAVY. The next day I saw my new Rode Podmic on the wood floor. I put it back in the box, put the box in the closet and tried not to think about my fail. Two months later I can report that the Rode Podmic survived the fall. Success! I tested again tonight and though I need to turn it way up on the Scarlett and talk very close it sounds pretty good -- not quite like a radio broadacast but for the price good quality. And I will take the best care of it from now on. ... More

This is initial impressions, based on a single commercial voiceover session with this mic. This thing rocks. It's about two pounds of solid brass, the overall build is quite impressive. The integral threads make for a fast and easy setup. The sound quality for the intended application is just fabulous, in my opinion. Clean, full, perhaps a little wet. I bought the Auray foam screen and it helps a lot with plosives- probably should be included. I am not a microphone obsessive (or connoisseur, to choose a nicer word) but I am a professional user, so without turning this into something that reads like a wine review, I will just say that I am extremely happy with the performance of this and feel it represents a very good value. And made in Australia- electronics that aren't coming out of sweatshops, how's that for a change of pace?! This is Rode quality all the way, five stars for sure. ... More

Is it as good as the SM7B? No. But at 1/4 the price, it's just what we need. I love how beefy and hefty it is, way better than the Podcaster, which is made obsolete by this mic. The pop filter helps diffuse all but the most intense plosives. The frequency response does roll off more around 18 kHz, not quite up to true 20 kHz, but is barely noticeable. This is great value for the cost with an appealing form factor, a perfect mid-level podcasting mic.

First of all it's interesting that are you get in the box is the mike and nothing else but that's okay. I hooked it up to the road castor bro and it sounded okay until I went to the settings and selected the mic inputs to the podmic. Then It had a crisp clean sound, you do have get close to the mic to get full clarity though. I like the weight to it which shows the quality. The look is great and I like the colour. For the price it is a slamdunk and I will probably pick up a few more for my podcast called "Under the Microphone" which I am just starting. Thanks B&H photo for having it in stock since all other avenues added on back order. Thanks Rode for making it affordable. Sincerely Speaking, Fernando B. ... More

I've used a few mics, but this one is really ready to go right out of the box. Doesn't need any filters or anything. It works perfectly and sounds amazing. Doesn't come with any cable, stand or anything out of the box. It is significantly heavier than other mics, so if you are mounting it on an arm, make sure you tighten everything very well so it doesn't pull the arm down. Only complaint is that you really have to keep your noise gate/plosive filter low digitally as the mic is very good at keeping those high based on construction. So fiddle around with it in test recordings first to get those levels locked in. Small but heavy. Good for portability regardless. I would get this one, you won't be unhappy. ... More

This is a dynamic pro microphone. The sound recorded is extraordinary, with almost perfect reproduction of the original voice or sound. It also filters out peripheral noise quiet well. It has an XLR connector so you may need a pre-amp. If you want to use it for teleconference /telecommuting you shoud get an adapter to connect it to your computer USB (like Hosa Technology Tracklink microphone to USB interface /UXA-110). I have zero regrets and would advise you to save your money and pick-up one, two or however many of these you need. I'm a firm believer in, "The people that came before us did incredible things with a lot less." You can do incredible things with these mics. Their build quality is phenomenal and they sound awesome. I'll start with what I love about this mic-it is incredibly durable, has a clean sound, and the profile of it looks great. This mic performs exceptionally well for its price point, especially when you pair it with the ProCaster (for which it was made). The only negative that I have is that it lacks a lot of the low boom proximity effect that you might be looking for in a traditional broadcast mic (RE20, SM7B, etc.). The reality, though, is that at a third or even quarter of the cost of those industry standards, you are getting the best entry or backup mic you can find out of this beauty. ... More

A bit thin on the low end, not overall the clarity is great and I didn't have any issues with major plosives due to the built in pop-filter. Rode did a great job on aesthetic design as it's very pleasing to the eye if you're doing video with this mic, and build quality is top notch. Metal housing and heavy to hold makes it feel that much higher quality. Four starts due to the lack of fullness in the voice on the low in, but overall a good purchase.
