This mic works perfect with a camera that can feed phantom power or a recorder that can. A nice size for an on board camera mic. I just plugged it in to my c300 and turn phantom power on, adjusted levels and was ready to go. I didn't test it before I went out and shot an event with it. Thank goodness it worked smoothly. The audio is nice and clean. That was the biggest thing for me. Plus a 10 year warranty is nice. If i had to say something that isn't great it's that it's not exactly a mic for smaller cameras that don't have phantom power even though you can buy a recorder or pre-amp thing. ... More

I use the Rode NTG for mostly shorts, commercials, and other videos that end up online. It's perfect for that and probably more. It's not oversensitive like a sennheiser for this kind of work and is very reasonably priced I'm very happy with it.

I bought this mic to use on my C100. A fantastic mic in build-quality and sound-quality. You cannot go wrong for the money. Also, I didn't want to have a longer mic that could extend into my wide-angle shots so I chose the NTG1 over the NTG2. Same mic, the only difference being the NTG2 takes batteries and is therefore longer.

Bought the mic to use as an On-camera mic for a PDW-f800. Can't go wrong for the money. Only drawback is it might be too long to use on the Viewfinder mount of a Black and white viewfinder. The end lines up with the end of my Wide Angle lens, not an issue unless you add the Fuzzy windsock....then the Fuzzy creeps into view if windy.... Body mounted in the F800 and it should be moved back an inch or two....

I used this mic on the production of the movie Slow Fade and was extremely impressed by how well it worked in picking up the smallest details. The only negative side to having a powerful mic like this is that it will pick up a lot of ambient sound as well. It does not work as well in large crowds, streets or anywhere else that you may want to pick up specific sounds without getting a whole lot of ambient.

I am using the mic for a docu in Iraq and it is working marvelously. I us the rycote wind sock and it is also very good. The mic has a great range of sound pick up. which can also be a bad thing if you aren't careful. Overall I think that rode mics are pretty much the way to go for this type of use.

I use this on my Panasonic AF100 to capture nat sound mostly at weddings and or backup sound or close shot interviews. It is VERY sweet sounding. I did not expect it to sound so great until after I heard it in the editing bay. Feels very strong and doesn't appear to be cheaply manufactured.

One great shotgun and who could complain about the price! This is a great mic for low budget minded people who want to get pro results. Hands down the best shotgun for this price and even some that cost many times more. You wont go wrong with the build, quality and finish match the high quality sound of this mic. I am so glad to have this Rode in my mic collection and would buy again and again.

This mic is wonderful, I love the price and the audio quality sounds quite good to me. Then, one day my boom-op dropped it from a low altitude. The back end now has a noticable chip, I was so nervous that the fall would affect the sound quality. Thank goodness it pulled through, and I cannot tell the difference in audio quality! Thank you Rode for quality and B&H for good service.

This microphone picks up almost any sound you can throw at it in an environment. It does have a cardiod pickup pattern so sounds behind it aren't going to be very noticeable, but any sound within its pattern is extremely clear and well defined, and the patttern even though it's cardiod is still somewhat wide. If you need something within an extremely directional pickup you might want to get a mic with a super cardiod pattern, but otherwise this mic is a fantastic piece of equipment.

I got this because I film a wide variety of things. The RODE shotgun microphone gives me the ability to film all these varying shoots and receive quality audio that, with some slight work, is ready for professional use.

I use this shotgun to supplement the on-camera mic on my DVX-100a. I like it's range and reach, and the anti-shock mount that comes with the mic is a definite plus. Even with a wind screen it remains out of the field of vision of the lens. The 90 XLR connection helps to keep the cable from being an obstruction.

Not even needing the caveat for the money, this is a great mic. I've compared it on a shoot with my Sennheiser 416s, and to be honest, in post I can't tell which is which. Very nice sound.

A little more side noise than I want, but excellent as the general mic, use a handheld or lav for the main stuff

I have a dslr camera and use it for interviews and making short films. This mic is slightly shorter than most shotgun mics which is nice because I can fit it in my camera bag. The sound quality is top notch for this price range. It is this only mic I am aware of with a full 20hz to 20khz range in its class.

I've been testing out this mic, and I am amazed so far. I did some vocal testing and a test playing guitar, and the audio is crystal clear. I noticed that other comparable shotgun mics seem to muffle the audio, but the NTG-1 sounds open and crisp. I also love that the mic is pretty small and very light. I am highly satisfied!

I use this mic on my Sony EX1-r as a replacement mic for the on camera mic. I use it with a shockmount and a dead cat when needed. It does a good job of picking up nat audio and some interview audio at a close range with little ambient noise going on.

Bought this to use with a Sony HXR-NX3 camcorder. Have used it in videoing seminars and producing golf instructional videos both outdoors and in. It has worked very well. Had to buy several o-rings at the hardware store for a good fit in the Sony's microphone bracket but B&H had made me aware they would be required before the microphone was purchased.

I use this for marketing and highlight videos for my school. I thought the improvement over the XF-100 camera's on-board mics would be noticeable, but not significant. But the ability to place the mic closer to the subject without wiring up a lav mic has been awesome. Even the included foam windscreen has impressed me. For the price and ease of use, the RODE has been perfect!

The ONLY thing I can say negatively about this kit is the Auray carrying case that comes with it. It's like a long skinny neoprene banana skin - about a foot too long and waaay too skinny in the middle for things like dead cat adapters, etc. Looks like a snake that swallowed a grapefruit when you stuff it. should have been a more cylindrical design. Otherwise, LOVE the kit.
