For a while now I've been using budget lavalier microphones with the Rode Wireless Go. They worked fine, but when the Lavalier Go was announced, I ordered one to get the best possible experience. Upon receipt, I tested the two mics and was surprised by what I heard. The budget lav mic was bright, loud and with deep bass, while the Rode mic sounded dim and flat -- all mid-range without any lows or highs. I tested it over and over, thinking something was wrong, and got the same results each time. I almost returned the Rode Lavalier Go, but then I started processing it in Premiere. The way in which the Rode mic records is similar to a RAW photo where the image is intentionally flat and low contrast. Once I applied compression and EQ to the Rode mic track, it sounded much better and cleaner across all frequencies, while my budget mic track sounded harsh and overcooked. Realizing how much better this was overall, I decided to keep the Rode mic. If you're buying this mic and comparing it to others, it will sound softer and thicker in the mid-range than other mics, but if you know the basics of processing audio you can pull some really nice sound out of it. ... I got this lav mic to make short videos on my iPad mini 6. The good: * Sound quality is better than the iPad's built-in mic, for sure. I'm happy with the sound overall from this lav mic. The bad: * Requires not one but two adapters to connect to the iPad. That's Apple's fault, not Rode's fault though. I needed an Apple USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, and then also a TRS to TRRS adapter. * The clip is hard to attach or even figure out how the lav mic is supposed to work in it, and it doesn't come with instructions. But at least the clip is easily replaced. * The cord is 4ft long, which is certainly long enough for a wireless setup, but makes it so I have to be very close to my iPad in order to use it. I wish I had seen how long the cord was in the description, but that's my fault. I'll probably end up getting the Rode Wireless Go anyway though, so only a temporary problem. Even with these faults, I'm still giving it 5 stars because it's an affordable, great-sounding lav mic. Anyone who wants better audio on their videos should consider it. ... More

I'm a podcaster making a foray into shooting videos as bonus material for listeners, and I shot a couple of videos using my podcasting mic (RE-20) on the boom, but thought that looked obtrusive. Plus, I had to take that audio and add it to my video track in Premiere and they didn't always sync up politely. So I purchased this mic with the aim of jacking it into the (Zoom) camera and avoiding that problem. I have to admit that I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. It's responsive, provides audio that you can easily manipulate (or not; I rather like the flat response) and still manages to be pretty good at rejecting stray ambient noises. As others have noted, the fineness of the wire has me a little worried because I do tend to abuse them a little bit, but I'm overall a happy camper with this guy. ... More

Rode caught some criticism for its Wireless Go, which is otherwise fantastic, because it basically doesn't work with any microphones. I experienced severe static pairing it with both the Rode VideoMicPro Shotgun mic as well as the Pro JK MIC-J 044 Lavalier Mic. Rode probably realized this all after the fact, because lo and behold, it has introduced a brand-new lavalier just for use with the Wireless Go, and the great news is that it works perfectly. It would be even better if Rode actually provided some insights as to why previous mics, including its own, wouldn't work with the Wireless Go, but at least you now know what you have to buy if you want it to work, guaranteed. ... First, these things work. You can slide the receiver into the hot shoe of your DSLR or your camcorder, plug it into your audio jack, connect the receiver to the transmitters and you're good to go. They're small and inconspicuous, so you'll be surprised how well they work. There is a button to lower the volume to match the sensitivity of your camera. You can use the transmitters with or without the lav mikes, but I prefer the lavs. If, like me, you're doing YouTube videos, the sound quality is better than most, short of fully professional, expensive XLR equipment. If you're recording non-professional talent, this little audio system is much less intimidating and quite handy. I have come to really appreciate this simple, easy to use system, and it allows me to concentrate on taking video. ... More

Of all the Lav microphones I've used in my video recording this (and it's white version) are the best of the lot. I now own six of them and use the black units for the Left channels and white for Right channels. Doing this makes for wire chasing much easier. Simply putting a piece of colored tape on each one (and at the recorder end) quickly identifies exactly which unit you're working with. Beautiful sound quality, very durable and easily hidden beneath / behind clothing.

I use this with the Rode Wireless Go and have been impressed so far. The Go has a built in mic that I found to be good and reliable but sounded Boxey when I did my edits. Once I plugged this in it was a game changer in quality. VERY pro sounding even without any eq or processing. I did have a hard time getting the broadcast loop to work with the cable and clip but I found a great video by Rode that explained it all.

Looking around for inexpensive but good quality lav mics for video podcasts, I stumbled across Rode Lavalier GO by accident, initially. But the price was good enough I had to try one. The results were good enough that I ended up with four -- two white, two black -- so I can more closely match the color of whatever our hosts and guests are wearing. Maybe it's because we're using them in a studio setting, but all I've experienced with them is good vocal sound with plenty of clarity and no noise. (We connect them to our console with the Rode VXLR Pro adapter.) Unbeatable for the price. ... More

I have the Rode Go Wireless System its great with the built in mic transmitter. I also got the Rode lavalier mic so I could be able hide the mic when doing interviews or working outside doing my YouTube videos for my Homesteading channel. I've had it for 2 weeks now and it works great! I'm very satisfied with the sound quality after making 3 new videos. I can now put the transmitter in my pocket and run the lavalier mic cable under my shirt and out of the way. The little condenser mic is a great option for the Wireless GO System. You can't go wrong with this mic buy it. ... More

I use this mic for motovlogging. The sound is clear and crisp. It has a great balance of treble and bass. It does not sound tinny at all. Although Rode says the cable is kevlar, it is super thin. Only time will tell if it is durable. I beat it up pretty good and it is basically used under a helmet but outdoors and in the heat. Wind deflection is good enough. On a motorcycle this is difficult to tame. It's very dependent on the helmet. Regardless, it sounds great!

If you want to use this with an iphone or computer and place yourself at a normal distance from the camera the cord will not reach. This is a huge oversight by Rode, considering it just needs to be 1' longer and that would solve most use cases. Buy the Rode extension cable for another 20$+ and you will be fine. That cord is ironically comically long and cumbersome. Rode must know the use cases for a mic like this it seems silly that they didn't design for it. Otherwise fine sound quality.

As I wrote in my review for the white version, these are small, easy to wear for the talent. With three white, and three black units, its fairly easy to hook up the wiring; White are right channels - just like stereo cables; while black are left channels. The TRS connectors eliminate any need for TRRS adapters to my extension cables, simplifying my kit and setup.

I've had these for about 16 months, I use them for filming - love the sound quality but after just light use (e.g. 1-2 hours per week) the cords fail at the junction of the 3.5mm jack and the cord. They claim to be kevlar, but that's irrelevant if they fail where the kevlar ends. Once they fail they either cut out or cause bad spikes in the audio. When one failed I started using the other, and then it failed.

I haven't done extensive testing, but so far it seems great. Some mics make the Rode Wireless Go get TONS of interference, or they don't fit in super well, this one has neither of those problems. Obviously this system doesn't have a lock but it didn't seem like it would just fall out without something causing it to disconnect. Compact enough that I can wrap it up around the transmitter and put it into the little carrying case Rode gives you with the TX/RX set.

Use it all the time. Sure there might be better lav microphones out there, but do you really need it if your just run and gun? Can't fault it for anything that I'm aware of. I pair this and use 95% of the time with the Rode WirelessGo thing. That mic is 'usable' but honestly, the receiver is too bulky and you can position this better where you want it. Smaller pickup space for better audio control. Essential have to have mic in my opinion go to with the WirelessGo.

Decent microphone. Works with the GO II great. I use it for weddings. Putting a mic on the bride is so hard with the white dress. This, you can't even see it (which the girls really appreciate) For one instance, I was able to pick up both the bride and the groom on this mic. He was a quiet guy, and though he had a mic on as well, I was able to boost him a little with the second audio feed. Loved that I had both of them wired up!

Purchased this mic to go with the Rode Wireless Go II microphone system. The Rode Wireless Go II was an upgrade from a previous wireless mic system and my other cheaper lavs just didn't sound that great on the Rode system. This was the simplest Rode Lav option and I now have 2 lavs go to with 2 wireless mics. The sound is clear and true. I am very happy with it! No regrets if you are a budget filmmaker.

I purchased this for my RODE Wireless GO because I was frustrated with the wireless lav systems on the market. I didn't need anything super long-range, and just needed something small and compact with batteries that would last a long time. This lav mic paired with the wireless go not only sounds amazing but is tiny, making it a lot easier for run-and-gun interviews. This is my new favorite wireless lav setup not only due to the great sound quality but also because of how small and compact it is.

Did some tests using the Rode Wireless Go internal mic versus this. While I bought this Lav for a more streamlined look when filming videos, the built in mic on the Go is actually far superior (with the windscreen) for just V.O work. I would recommend this to anyone looking to remove the visual of the 'pager' clipped to your shirt and go more pro.
