Got this for my 15 y/o daughter. She plays guitar and writes her own songs and was wanting to record her music to start up a YouTube channel. I spoke with a B&H tech and they gave me several recommendations, some were less expensive but this seemed like a good middle of the road place to start as her first mic. I paired this with the a mic stand and pop filter and also bought the Focusrite iTrack Solo Audio Interface. I set it up and we surprised her with it when she got home and she cried. Then she did a quick recording with it in Garage Band of one of her songs. When we played it back, I cried. The audio quality of this basic setup sounded studio quality. I've got a number of great mics in my studio, but I was looking for something more flattering to my voice. I did a lot of listening on youtube, and studied specs, response curves, etc. It looked like the 770 would do the job, at a very affordable price, so I bought it. I'm very pleased with the mic. It sounds better on my voice than the far more expensive AT4050, SM7b, and RE320. Those are great mics, and the MXL won't replace them, but for this application it's the clear winner. (I'm using it without engaging the high-pass filter or -10 db pad, but those could be useful features for some applications.) The sound quality is silky, without being mushy. Sonic detail is good. That 10K bump is a bit much, but I'm using a foam windscreen to reduce plosive noise, and that tames the highs quite well. At this price, I didn't expect the build quality to be as good as the more expensive mics, and it it's not: the materials are lighter weight; the grille is not nearly as dent-resistant. But it's still well made, and the assembly is flawless. The shock mount is decent, and the carrying case is sturdy, and a nice plus. A studio engineer once told me that every mic is the best mic for something. In this case the 770 is the best mic I've tried for recording my vocals. ... More

I use this Mic for just about everything and it hasn't skipped a beat. The bass response is massive and the option to add a high pass filter into brighten thins up makes recording a crystal clear track almost too easy. The noise cancellation is great especially for those high noise situations I constantly find myself in. The carrying case as well as the included shock mount make for a perfect on-the-go microphone. If you are looking for a great starter mic. look no further, this is the one to get. Heck, I bought two of them.

Purchasing a microphone these days is very tricky. It depends on if you're using them for LIVE, RAW RECORDING STUDIO work (meaning no or minimal effects). If you're going to be using the mic for vocals and instruments that will be augmented with today's powerful digital effects, just about any mic with a clean, undistorted sound will do and this MXL 770 is the perfect mic for actually both cases, LIVE (if you cannot afford the big-boy prices) and especially FX AUGMENTED RECORDINGS. I own four of these mics in our studio and I am very pleased with the sound. However, I would suggest spicing up your mic collection with one of the relatively inexpensive MXL tube mics for those meticulous recording situations. ... More

I bought this mic a few weeks ago and I was able to use it at work for some podcasting. The shock mount slides over the mic easily and locks in place. I attached the shock mount to a Proline Desk Boom mic stand, plugged the mic, connected it to a mixer, and then connected it to a Tascam recorder. Off in running in about 5 minutes. I love that the mic comes with a case for transport. The foam protects the mic and shock mount and allows me to transport the mic without having to worry about moisture or having the mic battered around in the car. I love this mic! It’s so warm and crsisp. I’ve only used it a couple of times so far for vocal scratch tracks but it’s smooth like budda. Prior to this condenser I have only used SM58s for vocals (old school, old guy). The SM58 is a great vocal mic, but this one is on a whole different level. I will eventually try it on acoustic, full Marshall stack, and an old Ampeg SVT. I’m sure it will work great on those too. Something to note, you’ve really got to use a pop filter with this for vocals and get the placement right. After that though, it’s perfect! ... More

The Midnight Purple color look's almost black on the screen but in real life it look's even more rich, not a supper bright purple but as the name suggest's its a midnight purple, trust me you'll like it. For ~$60 it can't be beat, The shock mount initially feels like plastic but I believe it's metal just with texturing on it which is nice. Sound quality sound's great for the price and i'm using it with my Yamaha MG06 mixer and it's pretty good. 7.5/10 would buy again. This microphone is amazing truly amazing and can be used for pretty much anything vocals , acoustic guitar , electric guitar , drum overheads etc. It is a total workhorse! and the quality is truly phenomenal especially given the price! I replaced an old 2000 xl with this one. I like this brand. It's inexpensive, but a high quality, all steel construction that lasts. I use this on my editing desk, patched through a Focusrite ISA One into a Yamaha MG12UX. I use it almost daily for VO in training videos. Very sensitive. Very little noise and zero rumble. Requiring little correction in post.
So far so good!

I'm currently working on my Mixtape Album so I use my microphone primarily for vocals. My previous mic got damaged ( behringer C1) and I needed a quick sub $ replacement. Most reviews on forums pointed to this so I gave it a shot. So far I'm happy with it, crisp sound, no noticeable noise and a pretty solid build. Great product.

I use this mic in broadcast production and it comes so close to the Neuman mic I normally use. Love the bass switch. This mic just make my radio voice so powerful and crisp. My ad clients want to know if I changed studios. For the money, you will be surprised. Solid feel and sound.

As a "young man" of 72, some would call me vintage, this fits in with many of my aging assets. This mic is set sensitive, that it picked up my dog panting in the hallway. Unfortunately, she had some issues with the song. I think 6/8 time will work best for her!

We run Shure SM7b and Electrovoice Re20. For grand piano, this lowe cost unit exceeds them both. We were surprised. Granted, you can get better performance from other much higher priced units but for a budget unit, the MXL 770 is remarkable. It even comes with a case and shock mount. And B&H gives free shipping. Really, it is hard to beat this value proposition.

I am a drummer and bought two of these mics for my overhead mic setup. They pick up the instrumentation very well...better than I thought. No tom mics, just snare, bass drum mics and overheads for the recording I was doing and the final product came out very well.

I'm extremely pleased with this mic and the shock mount and case is a really nice 'extra'. Clean sound and no issues that I'm able to detect. For an amateur like me this is a nice value. Recommend without reservation!
