For 12 years I ran a successful recording studio and during my early years I went though a phase of discovering the types and brands I prefer to use in an environment of critical listening. The Audio Technica brand headphones came out the winner, every time. I've owned several pairs of the higher end ATH-M models that are a true flat response and even though they are my favorite of the bunch it's not something I want to spend for general client headphone monitoring for podcasting, tracking, or overdubbing. The ATH-M20x works great as a simple yet professional solution. They sound great without much high or low boosts/cuts. The construction and integrity of the headphones are bar-none the best! They outlast all other over-ear headphones. In comparison, Beats by Dre are poorly constructed and have over extended low-end, and scooped mids - it's also the same complaint I have with Sony headphones. Bose are well made but have a particular EQ'd profile that can be distasteful to some. I'm not using my Audio Technica headphones for my iPhone or alike. For overly compressed signals, those other brands might help in revitalizing a squashed mix but I'm in the studio on the front end... I need comfort, reliability, true to source sound, and longevity. These fit the bill. They are not sound isolating but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I have bought 3 pairs and will buy more if it is necessary. ... More

After reading a bunch of reviews and buying & returning ones that didn't excite me these were my best choice. I wear glasses and others that I tried on put too much pressure against the frames. These fit over the ears and are really comfortable and sound great. The biggest seller for me is the 9ft+ STRAIGHT cord. The others I tried with the coiled cord put too much weight on the headphones like there was a weight attached to them.

I was skeptical in buying these cans. The addage; "You get what you pay for" applies 10 fold for audio. But every now and then an excellent product comes along and slips into our hands. A few months back I bought another set of cans from a rival company at the same price point and those cans were returned within 24 hrs absolutely awful sound. I was impressed by the packaging to start. They are in an actual carboard box, not a blister pack. Inside all parts were nice and tightly packed. The inside packing even has the companies trademark embossed. Nice touches for an entry level product. Light weight, comfortable and comes with a 9.8 ft cord. The sound is clear, detailed and surprisingly powerful. Bass is articulate and faster than I expected. Only con I've found is Rap/Hip Hop these may not hold up to. But pop, powerpop, jazz, and rock these cans sound awesome. I use a vintage set up. 1977 Sanyo 2050 receiver with a late 80's JVC turntable and a late 80's Magnavox CDB 500 CD player. Despite the cheaper price I'm totally satisfied with these cans. ... More

I've been a professional broadcaster. newsman, cameraman and field director since 1960 and am now producing audio books using the audacity software, which of course requires very good earphones to ensure top quality when setting recording levels and editing multiple tracks- and these do the job extremely well. Having both a 3/8 and 1/4 inch pin available is a real plus because they are also the best I have used on my walkman. The ear pads are comfortable and fit well. They're not totally sound-proof, which is a good thing because you can still hear (and deal with) any extraneous sound sources when recording - such as the hum from a nearby PC. They provide a much better sound experience than PC speakers for watching on-line videos, especially if you want privacy or don't want to disturb others by using you regular speakers. I guess that's where they would shine for gaming. The three meter cord also allows for plenty freedom of movement and distance from your PC if that's what you need or you can just roll up the excess in the middle and use a twist-tie to shorten it. Five stars and Highly recommended. Michael Knight. ... More

I use this product for my podcast and studio recording. the sounds are great but personally when it comes to mastering a track I would get something a that had better low end sound. Overall this is a great pair of headphones, I plan on buying a few more pair actually.

I tried to cheap out and buy some budget headphones from another site. There were just enough issues to annoy me. I should have started with these ATH-M20x headphones and I could have been done with my search. Comparing comfort, my first-purchase headphones were just big enough to almost fit over my ear, but required some assistance every time I put them back on which became annoying. The ATH-M20x is a perfect fit. I've owned some comfortable headphones over the years, but these take a commanding lead! Cable length: The ATH-M20x cable is long enough to plug in to my computer under the desk and allow me to still scoot over to my bookshelf about 4 feet away. As for audio quality, I'm not an expert but it sounds more natural than other headphones in this price range. It doesn't over pump the bass side of the spectrum. I'd would've given this 4.5 stars if possible. The only downside is the bass is a little dull for my preference, but at least it's not overbearing or hollow. ... More

I'm familiar with the quality of Audio-Technica's microphones, so I hoped these headphones would live up to that reputation. These headphones are terrific. They are comfortable to wear and they have phenomenal sound quality. If you want a good pair of headphones without spending a lot of money, buy this pair.

I recently decided to start a podcast so I picked up these headphones so I could monitor the sound as I'm recording. I wasn't sure how I would deal with wearing headphones again, since I haven't worn them since the earbuds with the wires came out. I just hated the feeling of something plastered to my ears and over my head. In addition to the great sound quality, they really are fairly comfortable when you have to wear them for long periods of time. They don't press too tightly against your ears, and a lot of times, I almost forget that I'm wearing them. ... More

I got these to use with an Amplug2 so I could practice at any time of night or even with someone sitting close by. I happened to trade for a cheap electric guitar not long ago because I had never really learned how to play my Epi Super Jumbo gotten nearly 60 years ago. Its heavy strings always wrecked my fingers and interest before I could learn much. I really can't compare these headphones to any others, but to me they are a good combination of comfort and clarity, and they block out a lot of ambient noise and make my practicing virtually silent, which lets me practice more. I've been through five bands and orchestra on keyboard, horns from euphonium to piccolo, and accordion. It's nice to be making progress in guitar to where it could be useful and welcome in a group. ... More

These are very good headphones for the price. I used these for amateur podcasting. The audio engineer (me) uses a nicer pair of Sony headphones which as almost twice the price of these but I have to say these headphones are a close second and much cheaper. I use this set for the host to wear and they have very good sound and are comfortable too. I bought a cheaper set ($$cheaper) made by Polsen for the guest and they are not $$less in quality--they are much worse. I wish I had bought two sets of these headphones instead of the Polsen. I think they are so good that if you can't afford a $80-100+ pair, you'll be quite happy with these. ... More

Are there better headphones? Of course - but you would have to spend more $. Are there better headphones for the price? Not so sure. For starters, the frequency response is broad enough so that you aren't missing much expect perhaps for the sub 35Hz material where they seem to drop off. The response seems flat otherwise with no frequencies that jump out harshly at you. As far as comfort, I wear them for approx. 1-2 hours a day and remain comfortable the entire time, with no heat build up inside the cups. They are not loose, and are not too tight - they just fit right. As far as durability and reliability, too soon to tell but I can't see any reason why they wouldn't last a long time unless abused. Build quality is solid. ... More

Im not a real pro when it comes to headphones but these seem to have adequate sound quality for the very reasonable price. I use them for gaming so that my wife does complain about the battle noise (Im 67 years old, by the way and gaming since 1979). I marked them down a star because, for my ears anyway, they tend to put a bit too much pressure on my ears and get a little uncomfortable during extended game play.

With much research and trying different "cans" under $100, these are the best - for sure. They have a great overall sound and yet are "Flat" enough for home studio mixing, etc. Great buy!

I purchase this item due to my need to mix live music for a church. I searched different products and looked not only onto comfort around my ears, but how well it handle the sounds and its variations. This headphone not only met my expectations; but passed it since provides clarity music, does not allow outside music to filtrate and more important capture minimum changes. Something that is important when doing live music mixing. A big plus is the long cord which allows you to move around the board and the area and still be able to listen to the music without loosing music quality. ... More

I use these for monitoring sound while editing company videos. Great sound and quality for the price. They do a good job of blocking ambient noise, are light and comfortable, and perhaps most importantly seem to have a neutral, accurate sound.

As a person to whom specs are of little help, I needed headphones for listening to music and my playlists (which a mostly classical) on my pc. I already am happy with my Sennheiser phones for optimum listening, so I was looking for some less critical (and frankly) and cheaper phones. I was surprised by the powerful bass. Music and videos I listen to on YouTube sound great, and my own CDs sound good enough (I attribute that to the player). So this is a real bargain without too much of a compromise.

These are very tight, yet I can still wear them for several hours without discomfort. I have glasses and it is uncomfortable wearing them all the way pushed back so I either have them low on my face or, more often, resting on top. This does not bother me, but it's something to consider.
