Goodbye my Beloved A7RIII!
I just received my new camera, Panasonic S1R. I sold off all my Sony Gear (A7RIII, 24GM, 85GM 50ZA) and I must tell you, I dont miss my Sony one bit, and I loved my Sony (Been with them for 10 years). But Sony never excited me as I think it shouldve, though the output you get from the A7RIII coupled with any of the mentioned GM lens, was/is superb. Besides the not being enthused to pick up the Sony, the menu system is bad (Didnt realized how mu... Show More

Very good but not great
I shoot both the S1 and this S1R and find myself reaching for the S1 in almost every case. The only time I reach for the S1R is if the resolution bump is critical (it never is). Most people have one or the other... so my review is going to compare this to the S1. S1R vs S1: The S1 has the cleanest most noise free and beautiful files I've ever seen from a full frame 35mm system. It's an absolute joy to bring the files up on the computer and work ... Show More

So many positives
I have only had this camera for a little while and I am still getting used to it, but from what I can see there are so many positive features that are an improvement on my previous cameras, mostly Canons for the last 15 years, that I feel confident to write a review. There were a few reasons for buying this camera - I was previously very unhappy with the centralised focussing points on the Canons as well as a lower sync speed of 1/200th which sm... Show More

The camera for Technical Users
I use cameras for fun and business. The business part of the work involves taking pictures for research, and the camera is used frequently to take pictures through a microscope. This camera is eminently suitable for this task or any task that requires meticulous photographic technique. For example, precise focusing is a must to obtain the highest resolution. This camera can achieve this end in two ways. Automatically, it relies on maximum contras... Show More

Waited over 12 years for this camera
I can review this camera from several perspectives so bear with me. First off, I have shot high end advertising for 20 yrs. (my business) doing Food, Fashions , Stills etc. . I owned Hassy, Rollie, Nikon, Leica and many 8x10 Sinar Ps ....My work also has a good market in the fine art arena. My favorite 'Go To' camera was Sony DSC-R1 ( great functional design ) and presently till now the Leica Q. Each camera has its uses. 15 years ago I made a lis... Show More

Panasonic just did it!
I have been for more than 10 years a Nikon D700/D800/D850 shooters coupled with Panasonic 4/3 offerings when weight was an issue. The recent Panasonic G9 4/3 body was very convincing for me, so much so that the Nikon D850 stayed for weeks at home... When Panasonic announced the S1R, I could not resist but to pre-order it. It is been now 6 weeks I am using the S1R with 3 Leica SL lenses, and I am delighted. The commands (buttons and interfaces) ar... Show More

World Changing
I recently upgraded to the S1R after years of using the Panasonic GH4. There wasn't much of a learning curve being a prior Panasonic shooter, but even if I wasn't I feel like it wouldn't be difficult to familiarize myself with the camera. Panasonic has made yet another incredible camera that is packed with features and a menu system that is very easy to navigate and customize. The biggest worry for me was that this camera would be overbearing and... Show More

Some improvements over the GH5
Coming from a Gh5, I love what Panasonic has down with the S series. Going Full frame adds to more versatility. You have 3 crop modes to choose from. Full frame, APS-C, and pixel to pixel (micro four thirds) I find myself using the APS-C crop when I need a touch more reach. Build quality is rugged. Grip feels great in the hands. Image Quality is impressive! I shot a plane as it flew by with just a 50mm lens on the S1R and I could zoom in to r... Show More

Perfect mirrorless
A few things that many other camera brands could take note on. The eye gasket is round, like my eye so the benefit here is light doesn't creep in, which happens especially on all the Sony cameras and in some part the Nikon Z too. The rear illuminated buttons are a boom, as is night mode which the LCD and or EVF becomes easy to read as night without throwing light all over the place. I'm thankful for the top LCD just like the Nikon is super helpfu... Show More

Loving this Beast
As a landscape photographer (no video), I am loving the Beast. IMO, Panasonic have the best menu system available, the ability to customize the many buttons, the excellent glass, and the beautiful RAW files are all excellent! Dynamic range is great, low light performance is terrific, and the EVF and LCD are awesome. It did take some time to get a handle on all of the settings available, but between the My Menu and custom buttons, it is now very e... Show More

More than a pleasant surprise
No amount of online review could not prepare you for the experience, I was more than happy with the handling of this 'large' mirrorless camera. The amount of customisation control available in this camera is simply amazing, made other brand camera pale in comparison. The speed of operation and the handling of this camera made me want to shoot more than other cameras, the image quality from the jpeg files is amongst the best I have seen. I can ad... Show More

Hefty but professional
I got the S1R to cemplement my mFT System. First the weight is something I have to get used to (again). Aside from that the cam is very much built to the same standards I have come to love that Olympus set with the pro models. I like the shutter, the customization possibilities and the speed of the S1R. I got it for that super deal here at B&H and would there have been one for the S1 I had taken that instead because the 47MP is just borderline ... Show More

So far I love it!
Yes is big, I come from shooting on a Micro four thirds camera so yes it feels massive, but surprisingly is very comfortable in the hands and is very well balanced, the menus are very intuitive and also it has many customizable buttons and dials that feel they are on the right place, the battery does not last as much as my other cameras but is not as bad as many review places say it is, I have not shoot video yet, as I mainly bought it for stills. I definitively recommend this product, and I was very happy when I found a refurbished one half the price with the full 1 year warranty

If you use Flash, forget this one
The S1R wasn't designed to shoot continuous bursts with Flash. It is incapable of anything but one single shot at a time with Flash. I confirmed this by spending the last week researching this sad fact... Pity that I'm going to be forced to return it,as I love the body, it's superior in many ways to my Sony A7R3 and Nikon Z6 ,and most surprising of all ,it's AF is Superior in many ways to both.... I shoot a good amount of fashion, and this is a deal breaker -I've never done a shoot without strobes...

A really great camera
Although it is certainly heavy - compared say to the Sony or Nikon counterparts, it's easy to hold, and the buttons are all accessible. With a full roster of Leica M lenses, and with the TL lenses at 18-20 mps, and with the new Sigma 45/2.8 (and many more L mount lenses on the horizon) it has everything that the new SL2 (whenever it becomes available) has - plus stabilization at 6 stops. And the files are beautiful from Jpg to raw.

A production machine with a few too many buttons
There is much to like about the S1R. Its built like a tank, sits extremely well in the hands, its meant for production, and it invites to studio work and/or a tripod. The 47MP files allow for extensive crop. The choices, buttons and menus was tiring for me. I will be going with the Leica SL Mark II when that is released. Very much the same camera, but much simpler interface in the Leica. The Panasonic is much less in price though.

Nice ,But heavy and needs glass
I can live with the weight, but lack of glass is starting to concern me. Sigma are warmed over DSLR lens until they come out with more DN versions I am not buying. Panasonic also no primes except for $2000 + 50mm. Really? I am afraid this system might be dying on the vine. Might sell if they don't start releasing more glass. Sony A7 IV if improved EVF and Full touchscreen might do it.

Fully featured and capable, with a best-in-class EVF
First impression: enjoying this camera, though its a bit heavy - the weight is reminiscent of DSLRs, not mirrorless bodies. Works well with native L-mount glass, and Ive also mounted M-mount lenses, which work really well with the incredibly sharp EVF. Will have more information to add in a bit ...

I love the camera
It is complex and there is lots to learn, but overall it is wonderful and well made, rugged but a bit heavy. It is my first fully digital (non slr) camera and Im coming from a Nikon 800E. Another benefit is it would be easy to move between it and the Leica SL/SL2 since it uses the L mount.

Lumix s1r vs Lecia sl
S1r has more button &switches, for more connivence and quicker control . However, when use my Leica 24-90mm lenses on S1r quick zooming from one end to the other end, you need to refocus a little bit otherwise its auto focus still considerably quick.

So glad I got it.
It really exceeded my expectations. I owned a G7, G85 and a G9 previously and this is what I expected it to be and much more. I read everything about it and was considering switching to Sony but I am extremely glad I didn't. Happy camper.

Solid body
Both the size and the weight of this camera feel like a DSLR. The EVF is fantastic and the wide-open metering system is definitely better than Sony A7 series. Hope Sigma speed uo to release all the L mount Art lens to the market.

This camera is perfect solution of resolution. The best camera on the market. It seems impossible to let go of this camera. I'm looking forward to the L mount lens coming out in the future. I love panasonic.
