Versatile lens with em1 ii

Aug 3, 2018

Being retired and taking up far more world travel than before, I moved beyond good point and shoots (ala Canon g1x) to Olympus mft system to provide more versatility for different types of travel. After obtaining longer lenses for wildlife I was looking for wider angle than the typical 12mm for landscape, interior architectural and even possibly a little bit of nightime sky. I wanted a relatively fast lens, faster than f2.8 and a relatively light... Show More

Perfect

Apr 11, 2018

I am using this on a Panasonic Lumix G9 and it is terrific. Autofocus works, aperture is controlled by the camera, and Body IS works, which is all you need to hand hold an 8mm lens. Sharp corner to corner, and no flare even when the sun is in the frame. Fast f/1.8 if you need it, or if you want control over the depth of field. (No screw-on filter possible, however, so don't expect to be able to use f/1.8 on a bright day). Build quality is superb,... Show More

Superb

Apr 2, 2018

Hands down this is the nicest full-frame fisheye I have used. If you want the best quality fisheye for MFT, look no further. I have the Panasonic 8mm f/3.5 which suffers from flare. The Panasonic is lighter, but the Olympus is still way lighter than a full-frame camera lens. I am using the Olympus 8mm on a Lumix G9. Works like a dream. Lens body is metal; Panasonic is plastic. Autofocus works, aperture control works. I still get body stabilizatio... Show More

Splendid lens

Aug 11, 2018

I hesitated between this lens and the more affordable, manual focus lenses. But to me every extra penny spent on the Oly was worth it: the auto-focus is a godsend when you want a quick capture, the f1.8 is excellent for the bokeh and the low ISO, the color and resolution are outstanding, and the lens is very sharp even wide open. I was surprised by how small, light, and unobtrusive the lens is, yet its built is first rate. The lens cap is easy to take off and put on, although one must be careful not to hit the glass when there is no protective filter. All in all, a fantastic lens

Great Lens & Seriously Open

Feb 28, 2016

This is my very first wide angle (fisheye) lens and I'm completely satisfied with it. Because of the proven quality of all Olympus prime lenses and because I do really like architectural and underwater photography, this's been a very serious candidate lens to have in my bag, and finally I have it. I have tested it on my Panasonic GH4 and fell in love with the results. The lens it self is like a tank, solid and weather-resistant, it's not as light weighted as I expected but that is not an issue at all for me. Conclusion, my favorite Micro 4/3 Lens.

gets the shot if you are close enough

I got the Samyang 7.5 mm fisheye a few months ago and found I very much liked what it could do, if not how difficult it was to handle. The performance of the Olympus 8 mm has been as big an improvement as the price would suggest, in the few weeks I have had it. The 3% difference in the distortion between the two lens gives me an excuse to keep both of them, but the Samyang has not gotten back on the camera yet. [the photo is cropped a little on the right and left, at f/2.8]

Large aperture, compact package, great images

Aug 24, 2016

I didn't know how I would like a fisheye lens but my initial reaction is that it is more useful than I would have thought. Definitely requires thoughtful application but that's a good thing for any serious photographer. Big aperture and outstanding optics in a relatively compact size, Great night time lens for both tight and wide open spaces.

Fast and sharp

Feb 14, 2016

I use this lens for wide angle underwater photography, where fisheye lenses are a boon. This lens is fast, and sharp wide open. Great lens. It's more expensive than the Panasonic 8mm f3.5 but substantially faster and it's weather sealed as well. The ability to shoot at f1.8 in low light (e.g. wrecks and caves) is amazing.

Perfect ultra-wide lens!

Aug 9, 2018

I love this lens, absolutely prefect for creative photography. It is small, light, weather sealed and very sharp. The 8mm f1.8 is perfect for night sky photography. When in some cases the fisheye distortion is too distracting I use Capture One to adjust for the wanted effect. Overall, this lens is everything I expected.

Sharp Fast Definitely different

Dec 28, 2017

This lens is very sharp and very fast which makes it great for low light photography, especially Milky Way/star photos. It is also very wide and the fisheye makes it a lens that isn't appropriate for every situation. But when you can use it, it is Awesome! Also maintains the small m43 form factor.

Wow, low light monster!

Dec 14, 2015

I got this lens for underwater wide angle photography. However, I love using the lens at night and for close focus work - really unique perspectives. Built like a tank. Surprisingly smaller than I expected though seems like the appropriate weight given the excellent materials.

Super Sharp Fisheye Lens!

The lens feels solid just like all Olympus pro lenses. It is very sharp, great for interior, landscape, and sports photography (up close). I would highly recommend this lens.

This lens blew me away and exceeded my expectation, simply stunning. Sharp everywhere and beautiful rendering. It has some heft to it, but well worth it.

Sharp wide open and fast. Not too heavy. It is missing the lens Fn button of other pro lenses
