Absolutely !
I will forgo the typical audio review for this headphone as there are several reviews of this particular headset, easily accessible on-line elsewhere, done in a more comprehensive and more articulate way than I could manage. With that in mind, I will say that these are my first foray into Planer Magnetic Headphones and I think these cans have let me delve into the realm of high end sound and provide a sound that is clean, accurate, and abundant, ... I get to re-discover my music collection with new ears!
I am pairing the HE-400i with the Dragonfly Red USB DAC, running sound out of the USB port on my laptop. I am playing FLAC files with 16bit, 700+ kbps quality. These are amazing headphones. I am listening to Gramatik, a techno-funk artist, right now and the Hifiman HE-400i headphones are showing me layers more definition and sound beyond what I could hear with my earbuds, car stereo, etc. As can be expected, these produce sound with dimension an... Amazing Sound, Amazing Price
Really at any price these are fantastic headphones. I spent a long time looking for sub $$headphones. Reading reviews on hifi websites, going to my local hifi store and listening to different headphones. These really take the cake. They easily compete against the next tier up of quality. The sound is balanced, sharp and detailed. I took these back into the hifi store and plugged them into the McIntosh MHA200 headphone amp and compared them to the... Show More

Goodbye HD650's, goodbye Dynamic Drivers, hello Planar's.
After claiming the HD650's the KINGS of the Sub $1000 headphone price range, All I can say is that things have changed. After selling my 650's a few months ago due to lack of time for listening, I decided to re-purchase the 650 since the price drop. Before the purchase, I decided to ask around and look, and sure enough, forums were filled with comments suggesting a NEW Big Boy in town, under $1000. So, I took the plunge, and sure enough I am conv... Show More

Sound was OK, but they literally fell apart in my hands
The build quality is lousy. They sound good and are quite comfortable, although with weak bass. After owning them for about 5 weeks, I took them out of the case to put them on and they literally fell apart in my hands. The brackets that hold the earpieces on, the flimsy plastic fork-shaped pieces, cracked and fell apart as I put them on. If you look at the images, you can see that this is a manufacturing failure. Poor materials and poor design. ... Show More

Amazing Sound Quality
These headphones have amazing sound quality. They have extreme precision and balance in sound in heard of in this price range. The highs, mids and bass don't step on each other at all. Truly a magnificent sounding headphone. One caveat is that they are not very loud without a headphone amplifier. The detail and richness really come through with a great amp. I tried all the high end Sennheiser (650,700) and the AudioQuest Nighthawks, and even the ... Show More

Should be 5 stars
While I would love to write a glowing review about these headphones, and say I would recommend them to my friends, I simply can't. The Sound quality is spectacular, A relatively noticeable V-Shaped sound with an outstanding soundstage. The only reason I can't recommend these is a static popping issue I have with the left driver. I will be contacting customer support for both B&H and Hifiman to see if they can do anything to remedy the issue. As I said, it should be a 5 star product.
