The Little Box That Could...
Ive been preparing to start a YouTube channel for low about 2 years now. Been doing the research (like most of you) regarding cameras, lighting and sound. Never in my wildest dreams did I realize not only how important light & sound are, but that it would take me down a path of information that I did not realize existed. (astonished music!) When it comes to cameras and all the words that go alone with it I am like a dog with its head tilted to th... Show More

Outdated ROM software
BH delivery was fast but sent with old stock and outdated software. Updating old stock should not be the customer's problem. Closed today so no response or useful help for at least 24 hours. If they send a current version to replace their old stock, this review may be updated. Very frustrating.

Perfect combination for my uses
This camera isn't cheap when compared to GoPro or other action cameras, but it takes far better pictures and video. When compared to other 1 point and shoots it's similarly priced, but it's far smaller and easier to deal with for travel, outdoor activities like hiking, trail running and biking. So far battery life and heat haven't been an issue. This little camera successfully replaced my GoPro, DSLR and point and shoot as the only thing I bring along for any activity and for how I use a camera in 99% of scenarios I couldn't be happier.

Gorgeous true 4K, Heat S/D totally avoidable, Fixed focus NP
WHY BUY THIS: (1) You want a sharp 4K image that can look good cropped up to 200% in post, (2) You want better low-light video, (3) You want high-end DSLR level controls on image. (4) Surprisingly good in-body mics (great as back-up audio). WHY BUY A GOPRO: (1) You want stable hand-held video, without thinking about it. (2) You don't optimize camera settings for your shooting conditions. (3) You either don't care about audio (i.e., hobby/vacatio... Show More

Great camera if you know what you are buying
This is a great camera with a number of disadvantages when you compare it to a full size video camera. The size alone dictates that the camera has compromises in its ease of use and some functionality. But, for the right set of circumstances, it is great. I have used Sony equipment for thirty years and have always been satisfied. I bought the camera for some specific purposes and it has worked well in those situations: biking, kayaking, hiking ... Not bad
I purchased this camera about a month ago and overall its great little camera. Takes very nice still photos and the 4K video is also very good. I just wish that it had a wider lens like the GoPro that I also own. But my biggest complaint about this camera is I wish it had a bigger viewfinder, Im 59 years old and have close to 20/20 vision but its still a little hard for me to navigate through all the menus. Hopefully Sony or a 3rd party vendor wi... Show More

Good concept, but misses the mark as a vlogging camera
After some real-life testing, I have concluded that this camera has some major technical issues that greatly affects its usability, particularly for vlogging. Although many of the boxes on the perfect vlogging design were checked, there were also some major issues such as the lack of continuous autofocus and some distortion on the 24mm lens (should not happen at this 35mm equivalent focal length). The lack of continuous autofocus is even more cri... Show More

Lots of bang for the buck!
I've only had it a week but so far so good. Menus are easy to get through and read when you are connected via your phone or iPad in my case. This camera has a sweet sensor and the software inside to make this a real pleasure to play with. I just ordered the Back Bone Gear lens kit, so I'll be able to put my Canon SLR lenses on it. I think I'll also get an external 4K recorder (Blackmagic) because the camera gets mighty hot after a short while. My... Show More

Most Fun in a Camera in years
This is a surprisingly fun camera! Bought it for travel and snorkeling since it can be used underwater. Also takes great video if you are ok with a limited zoom capability (50%). So can do wide angle to normal lens equivalents. Quality of the images matches the A6500 (at lower resolution of course). For slide shows it is more than adequate.

Overall excellent, with some critical missing features
The good: Excellent dynamic range, shoots 4K s-log 2, super tiny, practically indestructible, flip-out screen is very handy The bad: Battery life is atrocious (4K especially). Bring extra batteries. 4K footage has *painful* rolling shutter. Basically unusable if the camera is moving. *No continuous autofocus shooting video.* This one is a big issue, and basically immediately disqualifies this camera from a wide variety of applications it w... Great little camera!
Finally, a small camera that shoots Cinema quality and RAW still for timelapses. I use a Back-Bone MFT mount kit to be able to use lenses as well. Love this. Have two now and will probably buy a couple more. #goprokiller

Menu not ready for prime time
I had hoped to use this instead of my Sony RX100 and downsize a little on my outdoor adventures. Unfortunately it lacks the Scene Selection wheel of the RX100 and therefore every time you want to switch from video to stills you are taken to Sony menu purgatory. It may take 10 or 15 punches to get back to the Scene Selection menu...and you have to look for the tiny little filmstrip next to the Scene name to know it's video. Even worse on the tiny... Focus ...Focus
Nice camera. No continuous auto focus. One work around is to use their app and use manual focus but if you sleep the phone or switch to another app it stops the recording. Why? Seems like a firmware update might fix this problem.

get a gimbal
Don't be fooled to get smooth footage you will have to have a gimbal. The video is unusable otherwise. The little tripod thing is really useless

Durable and Portable
I used it in the ocean and it still works and takes much better photos and video underwater than I expected. The size makes it very portable and easy to take everywhere, but still large enough that it is easy to handle. I recognize customizing button shortcuts to your liking.

Great b cam
This device is pricy, but the image out of the camera is the same as my A7sii. Low light is not great for clear reasons (its tiny), but with the proper light and slog 2....you tell me which image is from this or my A7iii...you cant!

Wonderful little camera
I mainly purchased this to shoot videos. The 4K video quality is superb. Surprisingly I love taking photos with this camera. Really appreciate the eye-AF and stunning quality. Really pleased with this purchase. Also, thank you B&H for fast and free shipping.

Disappointing
I am a pro still photographer/cinematographer with a lot of high end Sony cinema gear. Ive purchased just about every Sony POV camera that they have released and one has been better than the next. The news of the RX0II release was very exciting so I pre-ordered one and had plans to order several more after some testing. The quality of the manufacture is wonderful. The menu system is not very intuitive and was pretty frustrating as I tried to get... Show More

A Remarkable Miniature Camera!
I have a bad back, which prevents me from carrying around a heavy camera all day. I have been looking for a super light-weight camera that does both great stills and video. With the new Sony DSC-RX0 II, I found it. The adjustable back screen really makes this camera work. The mic jack is an excellent addition. On the downside, the menu letters are too small and hard to navigate. The RAW format is too oddball. Bluetooth and WiFi are hard to set up... Show More

Do not sleep on this camera. A must have in the toolkit.
While the first RX0 was revolutionary, there were still many limitations that made it a tough sell for many hobbyist photographers. In order to get the best results, it required a pro set up (external recorder for 4K, as well as an external monitor to actually see what you were recording, and a gimbal to stabilize the footage). I know this because I shot a short film using only the RX0. Sony gave me the new RX0II to test out and heres what I thin... Show More

Its a concept camera
These are first thoughts as Ive had mine only a few days. Bought it because I already use the Alpha system wanted a go anywhere 2nd camera for when the 1st camera (A7RIII) is too bulky or too likely to be damaged. Though this will also compete with my iPhone for a pull out of the pocket go anywherecamera. complete junk- lasted less than 10 minutes before filling with water. Still has water inside after I have returned from Mexico. B&H will not give me a refund cause I dont have the original package. I am not a pack rat. I dont keep boxes in my home. Never mind that I purchased $15k in Sony camera gear from B&H recently - I am stuck with this. If you buy it you will be disappointed.

Just Dont !!!
i got 3 of this camera hoping to get a really nice solution shooting in cars. it looks great and this is about it with this camera. it runs hot after 10 min in the sun (or on a car windshiled) the camera stops working with a hot warning. the menu is done by a monkey! it is unbelievable that sony could have released such an unfinished product. the accessories are ridiculously expensive. i have to sat that buy just buy a Gopro instead, cheaper more reliable and with a wider range of accessories.
