Excellent headphone for the price

Aug 3, 2009

Bought for commuting by bus and when I need a break at home to crank the tunes. Great sound, but I haven't tried many others at this level or better. The descripton doesn't show how they fold. I was hoping the would rotate and lay flat so you could fit them in a day pack or brief case, but no such luck (they fold inward) to form a ball. Over the ear is a great way to go. My previous Sony one's were on ear types and not nearly as comfortable nor reduced outside as much as these. They run off my ipod, but don't know for how long.

Great Headphone!

Dec 29, 2008

I was a big fan of the 7509's but then Sony decided to improve them and released the 7509HD that sound thin and aren't as comfortable. The V6, while not as smooth as the original 7509's are very decent headphones. The bottom end is big but not boomy and the top is nice and airy without sounding harsh. They are very comfortable. The circumaural ear pads provide excellent isolation. I use them for tracking, editing and as monitors for my portable rig. Over all a great headphone for a fraction of the price of the 7509's.

Not for a ConeHead

Jun 25, 2011

To be fair, I have only limited experience with this type of headphone. The sound quality, noise blocker and headphone manipulation are excellent. I was also expecting unquestionable comfort but it is uncomfortable to sit through an entire movie. I need to remove these headphones every 30 minutes or so because it begins to feel like my ears are lossing circulation and get in pain. I fear that if I was a ConeHead, I'd have to remove them every 5 minutes or so. I haven't owned them long enought to comment on durability.

don't think just buy them or the 7506's

Jan 5, 2013

between these and my work pair of MDR-7506's I've never owned another pair of headphones in the past 8 years. Mine recently broke (due to taking horrible care of them) and now it feels great having a brand new pair, I forgot how good the ear pieces actually felt on your head when they aren't run down. If you are debating between these and the 7506 the differences are incredibly small, if you have the extra cash get the 7506. If not I'm willing to bet you can save some cash, get the V6's and not notice the difference.

Excellent Headphones!

Sep 10, 2008

I use these headphones for both gaming and music on my PC. These headphones sound amazing when compared to my Sennheiser HD212pro headphones. Sound quality is on par with the Sennheiser HD280, but these headphones are smaller and more comfortable. I highly advise the Beyerdynamics Velour Pads to be added to these. The pleather made my ears slightly sweaty, where the velour gives plenty of room for breathing and even adds to the depth of sound. Can sometimes be a bit tight feeling after wearing for a long time.

A Superb buy

Oct 29, 2012

I use the headphones for just about every headphone use... while editing, for listening to music at home or on in public. They are comfortable, with great completely neutral sound quality. I tried all the headphones on display at the Superstore several times and the V6 was the clear winner. I checked with the salesperson if there were any others in the price range which could stand up to the V6 and his reply was that he was on his 3rd pair. That sealed it for me. Its a winner any which way you look at it.

Great value

Jan 24, 2013

I primarily use these for PC gaming in a somewhat loud environment (living room with loud TV), and they serve this purpose well. They reduce external noise enough, and provide plenty of volume of their own. Clarity is better than any headphones I've used, although I'm no audiophile. These easily provide the deep vibrating bass that I've only experienced previously with a sub-woofer. The padding feels very delicate, and I expect it to deteriorate or tear long before the metal body and driver is worn out.

Great classics here

Nov 17, 2008

I use these headphones at my computer for all my needs at home and at work. These headphones are solid and have a rich sound that are hard to get at this price. What I mean by classics is that they have been around for along time. These V6's are pretty under the radar and low priced but don't let that fool you. The are very comfortable too. Totally worth it. I have a pair of Bose around ear headphones and they are good too, but two times the price, and they don't have the comfy feel of the V-6's.

Great sound

Aug 19, 2008

Fantastic sound for the price. Unfortunately I had a little rattling in the left cup when the music hit a range of bass, but not a deal-breaker. Great for music (what they're built for), soundstage is not so great for gaming - I could hear more, but I couldn't really hear where. Comfort is what really bothered me out of box... could only wear them for 20 min at a time. They're a little more worn-in now though so not too bad. Definitely thinking about getting the Beyerdynamic pads though.

Great set of cans!

Dec 29, 2009

I have purchased 3 of these over the years. I think they are the best value out there for studio quality headphones. They are very comfortable, even after long periods of time. They're great for reducing peripheral noise, and they sound great. Nice fat lows and crisp, clean highs. There are more expensive headphones out there, but in my opinion, you don't get a whole lot more for your money. The only drawback is that after lots of use, the ear pads wear out and must be replaced.

BEST EVER!!!

Sep 18, 2009

Without doubt, best quality sound one will ever hear. My ears depend on good sound as an Audio A1/Systems for major events and video shoots both in N America and Internationally. This is my fourth pair over 25+ years in the business of making the artist/talent/CEO message heard clearly. I depend on these daily. As noted in other reviews, only drawback is ear pads wear quickly. And yes, alternative vendors do work great nor have an affect on the quality of sound. Thank you Sony!

Sound Great and Designed Well

Dec 16, 2011

These are great headphones. These are probably best for monitoring audio as opposed to casual music listening as these let you hear everything. I use them for monitoring audio while filmmaking or shooting events and for audio editing. The folding design is great for storage and transport and they feel very well built. The cord is a good length. I know of people who have had these for 20 years and they are still going. I expect to get quite a few years out of mine as well.

Very Nice!

Nov 20, 2010

Haven't used them a lot yet but they've been great. I was a little upset at the padding on them, they fell off immediately when I took them out of the bad, the ear padding. I was like great I can already see I'm going to have to deal with this for a long time. They've stayed on well since then. The sound canceling is amazing for as small as the padding is. Great sound for the price as well. It's great that it's compact, but it also makes the design feel a little flimsy.

They've worked well for me

Mar 16, 2011

I'm a media and film student and needed good headphones for editing audio/film. These work wonderfully... though I'm not totally sure whether its because they actually are exceptional or because of my lack of experience with studio quality headphones. I've had them for a few months now and have had no problems but I have had concerns that maybe they aren't as solid/durable as they should be? not that they have actually broken just that the joints seem a little wobbly?

Don't believe the HYPE

Aug 1, 2011

They are good but not that good. It doesn't isolate anything. There's little outside sound reduction and they aren't as loud as my Senheiser HD 202 II for $25 and not as sleek. In a few weeks the cushioning covering unravelled like it was glued together with scotch tape The sound quality wasn't much better. I don't understand the hype on these things. They are quiet, don't block much sound, and the cushion covering came apart in no time. But the box was beautiful.

Best Bang for the Buck

Dec 1, 2009

These headphones are a real all around great performer. They are very comfortable. If you are listening to hours of music for relaxation or a movie late at night, they will not wear you out. I have purchased other expensive noise canceling headphones which were quite a discomfort overall. The sound quality is magnificent, truly earns its category rating of studio monitor. B&H's price makes it even a better bargain. They retail almost every where else for over $.

Better than expected!

Sep 8, 2011

I use this produce in Shooting and Directing Education videos for a university. Also, used in Edit room for post-production. These work really well, and come in nice packaging and are made excellently well. These sound great, fit my ears very well, and even block out enough noise from everywhere else to suit my needs. I bought these because we already owned the MDR-7506's, and these are almost exactly the same, with the gold tip headphone jack as the exception.

MDR-V6 Sony Stereo Studio Headphones

Feb 7, 2010

Purchased based on several reviews over the internet. Overall the sound is crisp and clear. The bass exceeds that of cheaper headphones and is not overpowering. The headphones are able to handle the highs without distortion. I agree with other reviewers that the design is flimsy, perhaps to allow for collapsing, and that the ear pads are prone to wear and will probably need replacing over time. Overall, for the cost, these headphones are well worth purchasing.

Great Headphones

Mar 17, 2014

I bought these headphones to use for monitoring audio for video in the field, as well as to monitor audio while editing in Adobe Premiere. The sound quality of these headphones is top notch. As far as I can tell, these have a very neutral frequency response that is ideal when editing and applying effects in post. I am also pretty impressed with how comfortable the headphones are. It takes several hours before my left ear (and only my left ear) starts to ache

Poor construction

Aug 6, 2012

Used in standard editing atmosphere and the occasional on-location or studio shoot, these headphones provide excellent balanced audio. However, like many (if not all) Sony headphones, the build quality is second-rate; the ear pads are poorly made. The inner seam separates exposing the foam, the outer edge wears out, and generally loosens over time causing it to slip and come off the headset. Plastic hinge holders easily snap or break from stress over time.

very good value

Feb 22, 2011

For the money, this is a very good quality and comfortable headphones. I use it to hear music in its entirety. Music source is important as it does give a LOT of detail. Coil style cord is convenient. Beautiful packaging. I would like the foam to be a little more beefy because after extended use it sometimes irritates the rim of my ears. Good thing they are available to purchase. There may be better headphones out but for this price is a very good value.

You will find most pro's using Sony V6

Feb 11, 2010

We own and use a couple of dozen of these headphones, both in the studio, and out in the field. The Sony V6 is the one single product that you will not find disagreement amongst most pro's - these are great headphones - and considered the defacto standard for many pro's. The only headphone you'll ever need to buy. Only drawback is that after years of use, the earpads foam will breakdown - but replacement earpads are readily available and inexpensive.

Sony MDR-V6 Headphones !

Jun 5, 2011

If you're a working musician on a tight budget , these headphones are the ticket for you . Nice lows without being for lack of better words too boomy , mids and highs are very articulate without being too grainy or ear piercing ! Excellent value compared to other head sets costing 2 - 3 times as much . The ONLY knock I may have on them is that they could use just a bit more volume . Again , in a studio or home setting this won't likely be an issue !

Excellent affordable headphones

Dec 3, 2013

Very well balanced high quality sound from affordable, light and sturdy headphones. I wish Sony had kept this line alive... While I mostly use these to enjoy music in a quiet environment they also perform very well on an airplane since they do block out some noise and the great sound is still audible. My only negative point is that I find they exert a little too much pressure just below my ear but this is a personal issue. Highly recommended. AM.
