DSLR functioncapabilities in a light-weight package

Jan 19, 2017

My primary shooting cameras are the Canon 5D IV and the Canon 7D MII with a wide assortment of lenses depending on my subject. I purchased the Sony RX 10 III for use as a dedicated travel camera to dispense with multiple gear bags and the associated walk around weight of tripods and multiple lenses. I have been testing the Sony in several scenarios and it has not disappointed in either distance reach, focus ability or quality of image. The bigges... Show More

Really learning to love this camera more every day

Aug 8, 2016

I've been a Nikon man since I bought my first F in Nam. I looked down on anyone who shot with anything else. After I retired I got a part time job working in a camera store and we sold Nikon, Canon and Sony. Well I started playing around with the Sony's and began to like them. When it was time to upgrade my Nikon stuff I was one of the victims of the oily sensor problems. I was shocked to see how little Nikon was doing to help us so I decided to ... Show More

Best bridge cam I've used

Jul 1, 2016

I've only had mine for a short time but I love what it can do. It is very heavy compared to my FZ1000 and my Canon G3X so I ditched the Sony strap, using it as a neck strap was very uncomfortable and shoulder straps tend to slip off my shoulder. Art & Artisans cross shoulder sling is perfect for distributing the weight. I have Black Rapid but prefer the two point mount of the AA straps. It's much heavier than my G3X which can't shoot continuous r... Show More

Great Way to Get a 600mm Lens with a Camera Thrown In

Apr 28, 2017

I had been waiting for months for Tamron to finally come out with its 150-600mm lens for my SonyA7Rii when I came across this camera with a built in Zeiss 24-600mm built-in lens. It was almost the same price as the Tamron lens without a camera and weighed a lot less than the SonyA7Rii with the Tamron. So I decided to try it out. What a delightful surprise. The RX isn't perfect. Complicated menu (I bought a book on it to help with that) and its fo... Show More

An all purpose heavy weight

May 17, 2016

Amateur photographer here. Good: Excellent quality images that rivals aps-c cameras including A65 and A77. Beautiful movies with an added bonus of stunning slow motion. Excellent stability even at full zoom. Bad: This camera is heavy. First time users might have to hunt for menu items. Inability to tilt the flash up for ceiling bounce (which I do with A6000). Macros are a bit difficult to get used to. There is an art to it. Conclusion: There aren... Show More

a perfect camera (for what I need)

Jan 11, 2017

I do birds and wild-life photography. I only do stills. My usual gear is bulky and heavy and I use rarely a shorter than 600mm lens. Portability is in my case an issue. I acquired this camera recently and I tested it only a few times. I liked the sharpness and the overall quality of the image. The fact that camera has RAW and its more than reasonable size and weight (considering of course the specifications of the lens) are worth mentioning. With... Show More

Better than expected!

had the camera for abourimentation,t a week now, but after initial experimentation, excellent results. Autofocus can be a bit on the slow side, but it gets there eventually. Good handling, acceptable weight, and intuitive layout. The menu is a bit daunting at first, but one can get used to it quite quickly. Both macro and telephoto results are very good, and the mere fact that one does not have to cart around several separate lenses gives this Br... Show More

I like the camera, it has the advantages of a Dslr feel and abilities, with the All in one option.... still find it a task to learn the camera and use its software and do not like that the autofocus is trying to focus with the tele all out, but am pleasantly impressed by the images. Do not find nice having to pay for the available PRO version of the software, but am liking the images and the magnification, so far, only had it for ten days amn sho... Show More

An Excellent Bridge Camera

Jan 12, 2017

All of what you generally read is true. It takes very good pics over essentially the full zoom range. It's a bit heavy but given the optical quality and the features, including the big zoom, it's not bad. Movie features are great and so is the quality. Use an external mic. You have lots of options here. While I love my Canon 5D Mk III and a collection of good lenses, when you can't or don't want to haul all the big guns with the heavy glass, this... Show More

LOVE this Camera!!!

May 7, 2016

Pros: 24-600 zoom lens 2.4-4. This gives all the flexibility of carrying multiple lens without have to worry about what to take and what to use when you're out taking photos. Having used the RX10 for 1-1/2 years, I knew what this camera was capable of. So I didn't hesitate to pre-order. It has so far lived up to my expectations and more. The Zoom has an adjustment in the menu to make it regular or fast....and it is fast! Then there is the focus. ... Show More

Extraordinary Performance

May 15, 2016

This was an impulse buy when I saw it first become available. I already have the Sony RX100M4 which is wonderful and compact but has a limited zoom range. The fact this camera goes to 600m Equiv. is spectacular, and the image stabilization works really well. Yes, it's a big camera, but I used to have a Canon 600mm, F4 lens on my 35mm SLR, and if you know how big that lens was, you'll know why I'm not complaining about the size or weight! The firs... A good travel camera if willing to pay for the quality

Jan 14, 2017

I bought the camera looking for a smaller, lighter camera for birding and wildlife travel. I found that carrying a Canon 7d Mark II (with 2 lens including a zoom) all day while hiking was not practical (too heavy and too much risk of getting banged up due to size with zoom). I have been learning about and experimenting with the camera in preparation for a trip in March. There is a steep learning curve and the guides could be better. However, ther... Show More

I have had many great other and Sony Cameras. Camcorders and the a7s and a6300, PXW X70 Camcorder. I read the reviews and learned interesting pros & cons. Then i read Ken Rockwell's review and he picked up this camera and hasn't put it down for a couple of months. It is a bridge camera. It is not a Sony a7sII or an Arri Alex. It has a one inch stacked sensor which rivals way bigger chips. 24-600mm fixed zeiss lens .2.5 to 4 all the way to 600mm. ... Show More

Went shopping for telephoto lens and bought this camera

Aug 24, 2016

I wanted a 600 mm lens for a Nikon D4s, but after a suggestion, I reviewed this camera, bought it (remembering B&H return policy) and ended up keeping it. The camera produces great images, very easy to use and VERY flexible in so many cases. For nearly the same amount of money that I would have spent for a high quality Tamron 600 mm lens, I got a complete system with a fixed lens that covers slightly wide angle to long zoom. It must be great for me to handle the weight

Oct 2, 2017

I was sure I would never again buy a camera that weighed more than my previous Sony. But to get 4K video and a sealed camera, I had to give in. The camera bag makes it tolerable to hang around my neck. I use the zoom factor for binoculars on my daily hikes. The fine detail in the viewfinder makes this a great joy. I've had the camera almost three months and still haven't learned many of its features. I've tried to understand the focusing options,... Show More

May 18, 2016

I bought this camera a week ago and have run about a thousand shots through it. Focusing is good but not great. On occasion, the camera cycles through the focus range before landing on the subject. This happens when the lights are a bit lower. For the price, I feel that no gadget should be left behind. That said, a touch screen should be included, along with all of the apps that can be purchased. $1500 for the camera, then charge me $10 an app to... Show More

But as good as the RX10 was, I couldn't do birding because the reach was only 24-200. Wow. The RX10iii is 24-600 and a Zeiss 2.4-4 lens. What's not to like about that? Aug 9, 2017

After owning the Sony RX10 M3 for a week I returned it. The main reason is the zoom lens feature. I do mostly video and some photo shooting. There are a few things I did not like about the zoom. Very noisy when zooming in or out and the noise was picked up by the onboard microphone. So I install a shotgun mike on the hot shoe and had the same noise problem. Plus: - Sharp photos - Easier to carry while on the move - Awesome range (24-600) which will allow me to let go of all of my current lenses except for 16-35 for landscape work. - Fast lens which will allow me to probably let go of the 55mm F1.8 lens Minus: - I don't quite like electronic zoom movement, would rather have a mec...
