Really happy with the sharpness of this lens
I was looking for a wide aperture lens that i could afford and came upon this one with a 1.8 aperture. The 1.4 is almost double! So far i am very happy with it. It's sharp, feels solid in my hand and i like the quality of the colors. I would highly recommend.

Great Glass, Bad Auto Focus.
I use this lense with a Sony a7r, and the Automatic focus is very noisy and technically unuseable. You can use it in Manual Mode, or Direct Manual Mode, and it works alright; but Automatic Focus does not give you the crisp, perfect image that its supposed to.

Disappointing
Very good sharpness in the centre wide open. That is the ONLY positive of this entry level lens. Loud slow AF. No AF/M switches. No distance/DOF markings. Bizarre searching on my a7rII. Simply the worst lens I can imagine even for the admittedly low price.

Disapointing
Lots of reviewers stated that the lens hunts and hunts before eventually finding focus. Despite this, I bought the lens as it was on special at $200. Yes, it hunts for ever. And it is far from the sharpest lens I own. As they say, you get what you pay for.

Very Sharp - Slow Focus
This lens works perfect on my Sony A7S (MK1) and my Sony A6000. I love the Depth of field with the f1.8 aperture. My biggest problem with this lens is it's autofocus performance. It's really slow at time and slow other times. It's on the noisy side also.

Plastic Fantastic?
Sony should make a better more solid feeling lens in my opinion. Really this lens feels like a cheap plastic one. Yes it takes pictures just fine but worried about it's longevity and holding up with general use. Should have been half the price really.

It's ok
I bought this lens as soon as it was available. Loved the size and the color it delivers. The auto focus slowwwwwwww. If you just need a good 50mm and time is not a factor, this lens is good. However for fast paced action, go in a different direction.

So under rated
AF on an A9 is super fast. I shoot motorcycle passing near me and it tracks perfectly.AF also depends on camera beware of older review I use to have the 55 1.8 from zeissCouldn't see a significant difference despite to price being like 4x.i sold it !

Noisy & slow AF
AF is noisy, slow and with the tendency of hunting especially in dim light. The optical performance is not something to write home about either. Considering the high selling price, this is definitely not the best bang for the buck nifty fifty.

Good nifty-fifty with bad AF
Bokeh - 4 (Nice. IMHO it's better than Zeiss 55mm 1.8) Color - 5 (Color is predictable) MTF - 4 AF - 1 (Bad AF-system) CAs - 2.5 LoCA - 2.5 Vignetting - 4 (Typical for nifty-fifties) Distortion - 5 Price - 3 (150usd is the normal price for it)

Very disappointed....
I am writing this review so that others know it's not worth spending the time to order and return this lens. It hunts for focus. Why would B&H list this as an option for buying ? I respect B&H but not this lens. Stay away from this....

Slow focus, kinda high price
Has nice Bokeh, but cheap-ish build quality, high price and no OSS. I wish this lens cost what a Canon 50mm F1.8 cost - as its about the same quality. Priced more at the Canon 50mm F1.4 range, but it isn't in that quality bracket.

I was worried about this lens
Because of the reviews, but this lens is great. Yes its noisy when focusing but focus speed is great and images look great. The only down fall I would say is the focus distance, but other than that its solid for photography.

Just What I Was Looking For
I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The lens is sharp and focuses quickly, although focus is a bit slower than with other Sony lenses I use with the A7II. The quiet sound the lens makes while focusing is not an issue.

Nifty Fifty
I read the reviews and cons about the lens prior to purchasing. However, I haven't experience any of the negative reports on it. Great lens, tack sharp and very fast with the AF. Feather weight, so it a stay in my bag.

No less than I expected
Getting back into photography after many years. A quality prime lense is critical. Sony glass does it right. This fast lense is crystal clear and on the A7ii Sony body it's a perfect way to get back in the game.

Good Start
Good starting lens. Has its purpose. But thats not necessarily being used for video. Its very noise when focusing. But thats not a problem when shooting stills. Remember its under $200.00. The price tag fits.

Budget 50mm
Its a economical budget lens that gets you a sharp image. The auto focus is really bad but i have heard updating the firmware makes it a lot better. I am yet to do that, hopefully it will fix the problem.

Good lens but noisy
Good image quality and good price for FE lens. Extremely noisy, which could impact videomakers. Build quality is inferior to Sony SEL50F18 (APS-C), which has metal body, stabilization and is quitter.

So light!
So my mistake in not noticing that it doesnt have built in OSS but hey, thats on me :-) Otherwise, this is a great little lens. Makes a huge difference using a full frame lens on a full frame camera!

Slow auto focus on A7II makes it almost unusable
I wanted a somewhat compact, fast 50mm for everyday use. The auto focus of this lens on the A7II is so slow, I miss most photographic opportunities. I wouldn't recommend this lens to anyone.

Overall, really like it!
This was my first lens upgrade from the kit lens that came with my camera. Overall I really like it. I didn't give it 5 starts because sometimes it seems to struggle to get focus quickly.

Its okey, but....
The most inexpensive glass for Sony FF, so what to expect? A lot of hunting. Sharp from f2.5 - f16 Lightweight A bit disappointed but better than nothing, and looking for the 55mm f1.8

Really good lens
Love this lens. Only problem I found was single focus it hunts alittle but then it works. If you keep it in AF-C it works far better. Images quality is really good it's nice and sharp
