Excellent value lens

May 13, 2011

You can say what you want about this lens, being light or plastic. For $ it takes fantastic pictures. It is now my go-to portrait lens and I use it in all of my low-light situations. You'll probably get better performance from a Zeiss lens or the Sony 50mm f/1.4 but you'll pay. Worth every penny.

A great little lens

Jul 7, 2014

I use this lens when I want to take photos with a sharp debth-of-field for things like portraits. It does a pretty good job and I have been rather impressed with the clarity this lens provides. The auto-focus is a little noisy, but I can live with that. All in all, a GREAT value for your money.

Great value for the price

Recieved this lens as a gift and am very pleased. I'm using the lens just for general portrait pics of the kids and our animals. Easy to change on and off, and I like that I can easily switch between manual and automatic mode. Is a great addition to expand my lens selection for my Sony A300.

Great Lens for the price.

I have to say, this lens spends more time on my frame then off. It's fast, great bokeh, and good with indoor lighting. I have the older Minolta version of this lens, and was happy with it, however, Sony was able to improve on it. This is a must have lens everyone should have in your kit bag.

So far so good! Winter has come full-force so I haven't gone out to play too much. I do love the clarity indoors. I'm new at this, so any help I can get is appreciated... this lens DOES help! I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a new lens to play with!

Great lens for a55

Mar 24, 2011

Fantastic upgrade from the kit lens on my a55. Beautiful shots and love the ability it has in low light situations. Amazing price and value. Wasn't bothered by the plastic construction, still feels solid in comparison to the kit lens. Autofocus isn't a slouch neither.

Awesome affordable, fast, sharp lens

May 20, 2013

The Sony 50mm f/1.8 DT Alpha A-Mount Prime Lens was a nice affordable addition to my kit lenses. It performs great in low light situations and provides great clarity as well as awesome shallow depth of field. Focus ring is very smooth and the auto focus is very fast.

Outstanding value

Jan 18, 2012

I bought this lens primarily as I had no prime lenses, and wanted a nice wide aperature for low light photography. This lens offers terrific quality and performance for its price, I think you'd be very hard pressed to get better without at least doubling the price.

Excellent lens

Feb 7, 2011

Silent and fast. This lens takes great pictures inside of my one-year old boy who runs a lot. I use it with my a230, and it works wonderfully. The only thing to note is that it takes a 49mm lens cap (included) so you might want to also buy an additional lens leash.

Light on weight but great.

Jan 26, 2011

this is my first prime lens so I wasn't sure how I'd like it but it takes really clean crisp photos and great in low light situations. The weather has been too cold to do much outside shooting but portraits and close ups have been phenomenol. I recommend this lens.

Nice Lens

Mar 1, 2011

Took shots at my sister's wedding, low light, as well as outdoors and this lens is a proven performer. Love the bokeh effect, and is a great addition to my Sony a230 Camera. Indoors shots are excellent without a flash, and really allowed me to get candid.

Best Lens in My Bag!

Jan 20, 2011

I initially bought this lens for taking portraits, but the beautiful, buttery backgrounds that it gives me has made it useful for many different situations, many that don't contain living subjects. I have found myself leaving it on as my primary lens.

Great for low light.

Sep 9, 2011

I haven't had the opportunity to use this lens a great deal but what I have used it it has been great. Of course you are limited on your distance from your subject, it is a fixed lens, but it delivers in the low light and a fairly quick shutter speed.

Well worth the price!!!

Aug 24, 2010

The thing I like most about this lens is I can quickly point and shoot and 9 out of 10 times I get a great picture. I use this lens mainly for potraits when I really want the background to drop off. I have no negative comments about this lens.

good lens, good price

Mar 23, 2010

I like this lens, the only drawback being that it does have a hard time locking in on a focus at times, and I miss shots. Otherwise, it works very well and gives excellent quality photos! I have really enjoyed using it, and will continue to.

f/1.8 is great for every photo you take! I love this lens to take photos for my friends. It is quite beautiful. If you do not want to spend 200 more on the 50mm f1.4, this one is the lens you must own! I even want to rate a 6 stars, 7 stars!

So far I have used this lens for senior portraits. I purchased it mainly to use for weddings. Takes wonderful pictures especially in low light situations. The only complaint I have is that it is a little slow to focus, otherwise I love it!

Oct 3, 2010

Excellent value for money. I'm a beginner and this lens is excellent. I use it mostly for portrait of my family. Also, I take it with me when I go out at night. Excellent for pics in pubs, night clubs and on the street with no flash!

Good value

Oct 22, 2014

I bought this lens so I could get more depth-of-field over the 18-50mm lens that came with the camera, which was also only F5.6. It takes good low-light pics and does improve depth of field. Next purchase should be a 300mm telephoto.

I thought a fast prime lens for $ was a great deal, but I am disappointed. Poor build quality, images not sharp. Worst thing is that the plastic mount is bad, my A-65 consistently did not recognize the lens. I am returning the lens.
