A fix for the biggest flaw

Jul 7, 2014

The biggest flaw in the preceding models was the lack of an eye level viewfinder. The Sony RX100mIII solves this. A mild negative is the slightly larger weight and size. It still fits in most of my shirt pockets but is a tighter fit in some than the earlier versions. The lighter lens compensates for the shorter zoom.

Great little compact

Jul 7, 2014

This camera is mainly for my wife as she doesn't like to pull out my dslr. I also use this to take pictures of the LO. Great camera for the size and quality of pictures. For the most part, everything is laid out well and self explanatory. Quick start up time and decent focusing with a nice burst rate is great for children. Low light performance is really good considering the sensor size. About the only gripes I have is due to the small size, it's... Show More

Great features added, minor points

Jul 7, 2014

The add of the EVF is great! Faster processor and faster lenses gave A LOT better IQ in low-light. Appart from being said, the letter jacket LCJRXC/B fits perfectly the M3 model.

GIANT step up

Jul 7, 2014

I have been using the first version of the RX100 for quite a while now and love the pictures. Because of it's size, I've been able to get shots I normally wouldn't because I had the camera with me. I skipped the second generation because a flip screen wasn't on my list of priorities. The third model with the viewfinder really made me change my mind. The new model had a few differences- added options when the FUNCTION button was pressed, no level ... Show More

As soon as I received it, I took advantage of the new lense, for both the 2.8 aperture at the other end, and the 24 mm. the viewfinder was not why I decided to quit my RX100II, butu for the lense. Therefore I am truly satisfied. And I love the response time and the new hinges

Best compact I've ever used

Jul 7, 2014

I've been looking for a small camera to take to concerts since most places don't allow dSLRs anymore. I tried this for a concert on the first weekend and was extremely impressed with the results! Very capable camera for low light, so it did exactly what I was hoping for! The viewfinder is great, love that it magnifies the view when using manual focus. The flash can also be angled up to bounce the flash which is nice too. I only made a short video... Show More

Excited to Explore the Possibilities

Jul 6, 2014

My camera prior to the Sony DSC-RX100 III was my Phone. Prior to that it was a Pentax ME (1970?) Needless to say, I am a novice with ambitions to become competent. I wanted a camera that I could carry with me (like my phone), enable me to practice taking images anytime I saw something interesting, and had the features and image quality that would encourage me to become a competent photographer. Great camera, just not right for me

Jul 6, 2014

Everything about this camera - size, lens, capacity in low light, sensor - lives up to the hype. But as much as I like it, it forced me into a choice that did not favor the camera. The few days I shot with it I had to decide which camera I would take with me. Even though it is small, that was not sufficient motivation for me to take this and my DSLR. And I prefer shooting with the DSLR because I can better see what I am shooting and I have a lens that gives me a far greater range of options than the Sony. I just can not figure out occasions when I would prefer the Sony.

Quality!

Jul 6, 2014

We love the fast lens on this camera. We carry this camera while sailing, fishing and camping. It is great for indoor and low light shots with the fast lens. The picture quality is outstanding. The camera feels substantial and has been easy to use.The adjustable screen is very handy and you can not the addition of a viewfinder. I would prefer to start and stop videos with the shutter button on the top of the camera, but ce la vie! However the lack of filter threads is a bigger issue. Check out the filter adapters when you purchase this camera.

Swiss Army Knife of a pocket camera....

Jul 6, 2014

Firstly, the service and delivery from B&H was stellar. The camera actually arrived the day before they said it would, so I had a little time to get familiar with it before I needed to use it. This is my second RX100 (I already have the Mk2, which I plan to use as a B cam for interviews). I am in a situation where I needed to travel, but because of a recent health issue am unable to carry my normal rig and bag around. The RX100 Mk3 really gives m... Show More

Brilliant Camera

Jul 6, 2014

Sony continues to lead the small enthusist camera market with the RX100-M3. I have owned all three versions and this is the best rounded (pocketable) travel camera to date. Picture IQ quality is exceptional with a fast Zeiss lens. The pop-up viewfinder is perfect when needed. Rear tilt picture display screen is bright and convenient for challenging shooting angles. The wider lens on the M3 is perfect for my street photography. Because of it's siz... Show More

Just What I've Been Looking For

Jul 6, 2014

I had been searching for a small, pocketable, Point-&-Shoot camera to supplement for my Nikon D7000 (with 17-55/f2.8 and 70-200/f4 lenses) when I can't, or don't want to, take out the heavy gear. For close to a year, I didn't pull the trigger on several competitors' offerings, including Sony's previous RX100 models, because either the lens quality/speed did not meet my standards, my need for a quality built-in finder in addition to the LCD screen... Small But Powerful

Jul 6, 2014

A small and light camera, that's easy to carry around, and which shoots great photos and video. Previously, I used a Canon G1X as my easy-to-carry camera. The Sony is even easier to carry because it's smaller and lighter. I prefer the results it produces. Equally nice color with a little better detail for photos and noticeably better videos than the Canon produced. Wi-Fi was easy to set up. The zoom range is somewhat limited but still seems to be adequate for me.

A great little gem

Jul 6, 2014

you can expect great things from the little gem: good image quality but don't expect MFT or APSC quality still noisy at ISO 1600 and above solid build handling could be improved with leather skin or optional grip good video nice EVF even though not too large and bright as MFT or APSC best all around little pocketable camera DOF is aplenty, good for landscapes/macros; not so good for portraits, subject isolation Zoom great at wide, a bit short on tele end

Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera

Jul 4, 2014

This will go down in camera design history as a landmark. Its picture taking abilities are the equal or better than many professional digital cameras costing twice as much yet it is small as a pack of cigarettes. Would have gotten 5 stars but it is a complicated machine with a bit of a learning curve which pays off with high picture quality. Menus could be clearer and instruction manual is not much help.

Worth the updare from the M2 - Love it.

Jul 4, 2014

Reasons for updating to RX100M3 from RX100M2 are: 24mm wide angle instead of 28mm (needed that) Higher quality video (nice bonus) Built in Pop up viewfinder (very useful) And I think the photo's are sharper with even more enhanced colors.... Just beautiful.......

A marginal camera that's too pricey

Jul 4, 2014

I got a Sony RX100 iii and would like to share some first impressions. - The instruction booklet is obtusely written by someone with English as a second language, lacking detail and not helpful in learning such a complex camera with so much packed inside. - Syncing to my iMac and/or Wifi just does not happen despite hours of attempts. It does not sync via WiFi in my opinion. - Image quality is okay but not great. - There apparently are no codec f... Show More

Awesome!

Jul 4, 2014

Sony continues to amaze with the new mark3 rx100. I have had each iteration, and this one is lightyears ahead in terms of the lens and the video quality. I use it primarily for video. The one thing that this camera sadly missed is the ability to shoot still frames while shooting video. I have decided to keep my rx100ii because it has the hotshoe which allows me to use it as a studio backup camera.

Great Update!

Jul 3, 2014

I use this camera for street shooting and travel. Terrific update, particularly the new aperture and the pop up EVF. The only drawback is the shorter zoom range of the lens. I would have liked Sony to have kept the original range as on the M1 and MII

Best Pocket Camera yet!!

Jul 3, 2014

This is my always by my side camera. This is my 3rd Sony RX100, I have enjoyed the original RX 100, the mark 2 and now the stunning Mark3. The lens is terrific as is the EVF, for me this package has everything I need to carry everywhere, sure a longer zoom would be great but to get the super fast lens would make the package too large. The image quality is great and the ease of use very operator friendly. I love it!!

Hurray for adding an EVF

Jul 3, 2014

I traded up from the M2, and so far, I haven't missed the extra 30mm of focal length on the telephoto end (28-100 vs. 24-70). The faster lens is blissful. The EVF is a fabulous addition. That said, I'm not terribly thrilled with the 2 step manual process to actually use it: 1) pop it up and 2) manually pull it out with a light touch, or it feels like you might break it. Someone with larger, less than dexterous fingers may not like it. Sony still ... Show More
