Takes full advantage of the m43 format
After years of toting full-frame outfits, I wanted a camera outfit that wasn't so heavy. Very nice
After all these years, we're finally getting a high quality digital camera outfit that's genuinely small and light. It won't replace a full frame SLR but when you can't carry that much and still need an assortment of very sharp lenses that fit in a small bag, you can't beat the Pen. Very pleased, but with 2 reservations
Like so many reviewers, I wanted something versatile, yet much lighter than my full frame SLRs. The Fujis seemed ideal but for some reason, I could not adjust to their electronic viewfinders. A Little Jewel that Works!
As a longtime Olympus Pen user (E-P2 and E-P5), I took me a while to bite the bullet and go for the Pen-F. The Pen-F had all the features I wanted save one - unlike the older Pens with their separate viewfinders, the Pen-F with its fixed finder does not allow for waist-level viewing, something my aging knees appreciate. I'm giving it 5 Starts because this camera is everything you would expect and more. Aesthetics and feel: The camera is wonderful; handles easily, even with my big (old) hands. My phone takes better pictures
I am utterly disappointed with this camera. I was hoping to take good pictures worthy of being framed, clear and bright with great depth of color. What i get is grainy, blurry pictures that aren't worthy of a facebook post. Often the auto-focus doesn't, so about 30% of pictures I take get deleted. I bought this as an upgrade from my E-M5 mk 1. I wanted the wifi and new exposure options, but after reading reviews, became very interested in the creative features. I quickly came to like the monochrome creative dial setting -- its easy to set up. The Pen-F is very nice camera! I'm primarily a jpeg shooter and the front dial, controlling film styles, is really inviting for me to use. The viewfinder is the perfect magnification to see the full frame, as I wear eyeglasses. I had countless cameras for the past 50 years, including film cameras but never loved any camera as much as I love this beautiful, functional, excellent little Jewell. This camera seems designed by engineers totally out of touch with human beings in the real world. Though I have 53 years of camera experience and though this is at least my 20th Digital Camera, I have constantly gotten into trouble that I cannot get out. Much of what has been said about this new camera is true, both good and bad. Leica killer NOT but for $1200 pretty nice. Excellent MFT Camera but somewhat pricey
The retro look is lovely without sacrificing handling. This camera is a joy to hold and carry around. It's light, as you would expect of from a MFT camera and shoots excellent images. Autofocus is snappy and there is hardly any shutter lag. The one reviewer who said he might switch to the Fuji Xpro 2 because of the better autofocus is in for a disappointment. This little camera has really rekindled the photobug in me. I want to take it everywhere. With the tiny Olympus lenses(the 12, 25 45mm primes in my case), you'll have a very lightweight kit that provides superb images. I plan to add the Oly 75mm soon. I love the design of this camera because it reminds me of an old Leica IIIf film camera , but with all the advancements of digital. I especially like having the ability to use my old Leica M-mount lenses (with an adapter) and having an incredible 5-stop image stabilization.
