Small, lightweight, built with quality, and nice and sharp

The great quality you expect from Olympus. The size and weight make you happy you chose the MFT format. The only complaint is that the hood does not come with the camera and is unreasonably expensive. At this price point, it should be included.

This is a very sharp lens and is easy to use. Works well with Olympus's focus stacking on the EM1....

Great macro lens--not crazy about dial on side for setting focus distance. But overall I love the small size.

Great lens--even for portraits

Feb 28, 2016

While I primarily purchased this lens for macro photography, I have discovered (probably, lots of purchasers of this lens have discovered) that it is a great portrait lens. I own the 75mm 1.8 and have used that lens mainly for portrait work. This lens allows for a closer distance between you and your subject and has a wonderful bokeh associated with it. The limiter switch is great for close up work because it positions the focus distance in a 1:1... Show More

Versatile portrait and macro lens with great IQ

Feb 17, 2016

For over a year I've been using the 60mm along with the 9-18mm, 14-42mm kit, 25mm 1.8, 45mm 1.8, 40-150mm II R, and only recently the 12-40mm PRO. The 60mm is weather resistant like the pro lenses, has image quality like the 25mm and 45mm prime lenses, is great for portraits, and can shoot macro shots. If the focal length were shorter, this lens might be my favorite all around lens. It's not for everyday shooting but will not disappoint when you ... Show More

Small but Capable

Feb 15, 2016

I am trying to build a complete system for my new Micro 4/3 cameras. I have a Tamron 90mm F/2.8 Macro for my Canon SLRs. So this lens is what I am going to use for my macro photography and portraiture. I really love its tiny size and its light weight, and the fact that it is weather sealed. Although it is made of plastics, I think it is a nice trade off for its light weight. Performance wise, I really prefer this one than my Tamron since it focuses faster under macro mode and gives better depth of field given the nature of m4/3 systems.

Great lens

Feb 4, 2016

I have a bunch of Oly lenses and this one is the most fun. You can use it for general photography, portraits, etc. Great for a trip to the aquarium. Very sharp. Its a really good macro lens, but does suffer from very shallow depth of field (generally true of macros). You have to get fairly close to your subject to get 1:1. It is not a high speed focus demon like the other Oly primes, but it is not bad either. Weather sealing is a bonus.

Killer Macro Lens

Jan 17, 2016

Perfect match for a Micro 4/3 system. Incredibly sharp, great focus limiter setup, light, excellent contrast. This is a really nice lens for macros, but is also a very useful portrait lens. At f/2.8 it can handle just about any portrait situation. Great bokeh. Olympus should include the hood with the lens. Their hood is way overpriced. The Vello dedicated hood is a perfect match at a fraction the cost.

Great lens!

Jan 10, 2016

This is my first dedicated macro lense and I just love it! I have a Panasonic Lumix G7 and my only con about this lense is that I lose my image stabilization by using it with my camera (Panasonic image stabilization is built into their lenses, not the camera, so by using an Oly lense you lose it. The Macro lense by Panasonic was twice the money, plus the Oly lense had such fabulous reviews, so I bought the Oly.). Even so, being a macro lense, it ... Show More

Sharp and fast

Jan 6, 2016

This is one of my favorite lenses for the OMD EM5. I bought this specifically for macro use, it was my first (and only) macro lens. But I use it for so much more now! Obviously great for bugs and flowers and other close-ups, but also good for portraits and general shooting. Fast, and sharp, I use it a lot more than I thought I would when I bought it. The dial was a bit tricky to get used to at first; and there is sometimes a bit of hunting in very low light -- but nothing terrible. I found this to be a great lens for a very good price.

A superb macro lens

Dec 10, 2015

A superb macro lens, sharp at all apertures up to F8 where diffraction begins to take a toll. The focus limiter works very well for macro subjects in particular making auto focus much faster.Coupling this lens with the E-M1's focus bracketing makes for a spending kit for macro. And the small size and light weight of the lens are a bonus. The only thing to complain about is the price of the hood but it isn't an essential for macro work.

Great Image Quality

Sep 19, 2015

This lens provides excellent image quality when used on my Panasonic G5. There is no apparent chromatic aberration or distortion. The lens does tend to hunt a little on focusing but the focus limiting switch does an excellent job of alleviating this minor problem. The lens is light weight and balances well on the camera. I would recommend this lens without hesitation.

great for macro and portraits

Sep 17, 2015

I picked up this lens as a poor mans 75/1.8. I have the 4/3 50mm f2 but it focuses slowly on my E-M1, and while technically a macro lens it doesn't have the 1:1 magnification of this lens. The m4/3 60/2.8 has decent subject isolation and is a good alternative to the 75/1.8. As a bonus, it's smaller and weather sealed!

Just didn't need it

Aug 26, 2015

I thought I wanted a dedicated macro lens. I first tried the Panasonic 30mm macro, but it was way too short. I had to get way to close to flowers, say and I just couldn't get a good focus with a hand-held camera. I tried the Olympus and while I had a better subject distance, I still got too close. I use the Oly 12-80 and 14-150 zooms and while not true macros, for the close up work I like to do, they are perfectly adequate. Why I bothered with th... Show More

Amazing lens

Aug 13, 2015

I had a hard time deciding on buying a macro lens for my E-M10. I already have a couple of manual macros, an OM and a Pentax, used with adapters. But although manual focus is fine, I do a lot of stuff outdoors and on hikes, and wind is blowing, insects are flying, and focusing is a chore. So I thought maybe an auto. Then I was faced with the focal lenght question. 60mm seemed kinda long; hard to keep stuff in focus. But this one seemed to be the ... Show More

Jul 26, 2015

The most important thing about this lens is that it is sharp. Secondly it is small and light. There is nothing that I do not like about it.

surprisingly small but excellent

Jul 20, 2015

I'd prefer a slightly larger diameter lens that's faster, like f2.0; otherwise, the 60mm is an excellent lens. I really don't see Olympus coming out with another macro anytime soon, so speed is of the upmost importance to prevent having to push the iso. Focus on an EM-5 is adequate, but the camera fishes around too much, even with the focus limiter. I haven't tried it on the EM-1 or Mark 2.
