Failed One Day

Dec 8, 2017

All excited about getting this lens to do some macro for a trip to Bok Towers. It failed first time I mounted to the camera. Olympus customer service said to return it.

Impressive lens

Oct 29, 2017

You really can't get a much better macro lens for the m4/3 system. Small, light and reasonably well made. Very sharp when focused properly. Auto focus does hunt much more than any other lens I have at the macro range especially in lower light - even given the focus limiter switch. I try to use manual focus and manual flash most of the time. I do wish that it had the same type of clutch mechanism for switching to manual focus that lenses like the 12-40 pro has No deal breaker but it would be much more convenient.

just but it

A must have addition for the 40-150 f2.8 Pro. Turns the lens into a very useful f4 420mm (35mm equiv) lens with not much price to pay in image degradation. I'm looking forward to using this on the Oly 300 mm f4 when I acquire it

great picture with this lens .Quality of this lens was equal if not better then my 90mm tamron macro for asp-c camera. Have heard it also makes a great portrait lens but i haven't had the chance to check it out yet. with the sale price I urge you to give it a try.

A very nice macro lens for micro4/3.

Jun 14, 2017

From the trial flower photos taken so far I am quite satisfied with the lens. It would appear that it will make a good 'stand back' lens. With the Panasonic 30mm and 42.5mm lenses I have a good spread between 60mm and 120mm in full frame. If I have to change lenses I usually use my Panasonic compact LF-1 for framing to help in deciding on the best lens option. If I have my E-PM2, E-PL5, and LUMIX GX85 I use the LF-1 to decide which camera to pick... Show More

This lens makes macro a lot of fun and not a burden with its compact size. Very impressive sharpness.

wonderful macro! great short tele!

Jun 2, 2017

i really like this lens. tack-sharp macro shots and an excellent short telephoto lens. a good all-purpose lens for the right kind of shoot. this lens is all that olympus promises in more. i'm impressed by both the sharpness of the detail and the color quality of the images. the 60 mm focal length allows me to stay back far enough from the subject to avoid casting a shadow. if you're thinking about buying this lens, do it; you'll like it.

More than just macro

May 7, 2017

I bought this well reviewed lens because of its macro capabilities. I now find it on my camera more often than not. I'm not a professional photographer and I really don't like changing lenses because I am often out in inclement weather. From a practical perspective, this lens allows me to shoot a lady bug in my back yard and then go out to the lake and shoot a blue heron braving wind and rain.

Best macro lens for 4/3

May 4, 2017

Very light weight, excellent optics, 1:1 focus ability and superior construction make this the perfect lens for close-up work. It also makes for a great portrait lens. I use this on the OMD E-M1 Mark II body. Only minor drawbacks are the smaller than usual filter size (46mm) and lack of lens hood.

High ratings deserved

Mar 13, 2017

Familiarize over the weekend and so far very impressed with the lens. I was initially concerned with the focus hunting. I searched and found reviews with instructions. Search for Robin Wong who is a talented photographer and reviewer. He has good insights and tips on maximizing the 60 mm. I love the versatility of a macro and portrait lens with the flip of the switch. It is very sharp but I do need to practice because of the shallow depth of field. I took advantage of the $100 discount ($399) and the great service and guarantee from B&H.

Otherwise excellent lens undercut by inadequate software

Mar 3, 2017

I use focus stacking with the 60mm macro on an E-M1, and although it has the potential to work well, Olympus has dropped the ball in their manner of implementing it. They make it necessary to select a focus differential a number between 1 and 10 which determines the size of the steps between each shot in the stack. First of all, this selection is buried deep in the complex menu, making it impractical to adjust in a field situation. Second, its im... Show More

Great Lens! Very Sharp

Feb 28, 2017

Love this lens. Tried it and a Lumix 30mm macro and this was much better with more features. Worth the extra $100. The images are very sharp and crisp. And I am really picky about that.

The Macro Sweet Spot

Feb 10, 2017

This Micro 4/3 60mm lens hits the sweet spot for macro photography at 120mm equivalent focal length. It is light weight, sharp with accurate focus. It can also double as an excellent portrait lens. Get the sliding lens hood. It's worth the price.

Excellent lens

Jan 3, 2017

This lens is a very good macro lens. It has excellent sharpness and is compact and light compared to similar lenses for full frame cameras. I use it with my Olympus M5 II in preference to my my Nikon 105 mm F2.8 VR macro lens with my Nikon DSLRs, as the combination is one heck of a lot lighter to carry around.

Olympus quality, need more be said?

Jan 2, 2017

This lens most certainly deserves the outstanding reputation it has in terms of IQ. Even though I've read most of the reviews prior to purchase and basically understood how versatile this lens could be, I still was surprised at how good it is for portraits. Be aware, however, that macro requires a learning curve, but that's part of the fun.

Lightweight but sharp

Dec 24, 2016

This lens does not have the feel of high quality optics like the 75 mm 1.8, but looks can be deceiving. I found this lens to be about as sharp as the 75 when both are used at 2.8. It is also more weatherproof than the 75.

Good macro lens

Dec 13, 2016

It is a very small and light lens with pretty good macro capabilities. Much better shots than a bundled macro lens. Can only wish it was in a pro line with a more solid build and full weatherproofing, but until it's just a wish, this one is a must have lens for a 4/3rds lineup.

Well designed lens not only for close up photography.

Dec 11, 2016

This lens is more than expected. I got this lens for my nature photography. Then, I found it is well designed not only for close up photography but also for daily use. Before purchase, I was little wondering about this little long focal length, but realized that it is good for simple framing for every object. I satisfied the sharp image quality, weather sealed and inner focus design as well. Now, this is one of my favorite lens.

Nice Lens

Aug 28, 2016

I received this lens 2 days ago and this morning did a preliminary test on tripod with a cable release. The OMD-EM5 was set on auto-focus and IS was turned off. The lens is very sharp up to f8.0 but becomes progressively softer especially at its limit of f 22 probably due to increasing diffraction observed at high f numbers. This should not be a serious problem with this lens as long as you use it at f 8.0 or lower.
