This camera reminds me of 2007 when I had a Canon 30D dslr and the canon 100-400 L lens. That set up cost $2,600 back then. This little camera packs the same punch at better f/stops and you do not have to change lenses. Of course your getting better technology in the Mark4 compared to the Canon 30D which was released back around 2006. With the 30D I did not have 4K, or video for that matter. It only had 9 auto focus points and ISO went as high as 3200. It had auto ISO 100-400 only. Just google the canon 30D specs and you can see how far cameras have come today.

An excellent all-in-one camera with few compromises
I recently purchased this camera before heading off for a trip to New Zealand. I wanted a camera that was travel sized (not too big) but with a good feature set for sightseeing. Only Spot and Zone Focusing in Video
There is no lock-on flexible spot focusing in video mode so tracking birds and fast moving subjects that change direction sucks in video mode. It has a back focus problem in video if you have a cluttered background ;even with the small spot focus directly over your subject, it tends to back focus. Love the versatility
Sony RX10-IV- Much better then anticipated for my needs. As a semi-pro shooter, occasionally doing some studio and portrait work, my loves are shooting candids, documenting events, theatre promotion, travel, and local nature. Solid travel and concert camera
Solidly built camera with wide zoom range. Perfect for venues (concerts) that do not allow for detachable lens cameras. Also good for travel and miles better for wildlife than previous model due to faster focus acquisition. Fairly decent in low light. Battery life leaves something to be desired so I bought a stack of third party batteries that seem to work really well. Appreciate weather sealing though I haven't had to test it much yet.

Great camera, almost no existent instructions
Instructions have a lot to be desired--many functions will have to wait until someone publishes a How-to book--major disappointment. B&H was great...I won't be able to tell about Sony until some clear instructions come out. I can't recommend without better instruction manual.

improved HFR
Last week I rented this camera to shoot a particular subject at 960fps. I was concerned because previous versions of this and the RX100 locked out the LCD when you entered the HFR video standby mode, showing only the last seen frame. This camera does not! You still can't adjust anything (focus, exposure, etc.) but if you're in the End Trigger mode you CAN see what the subject is doing, you can follow it or move it to keep it in frame. This let me... Not for me, but still a nice camera
As a person that's used a traditional DSLR their entire life adapting to I found adapting to the EVF and fly-by-wire zoom controls challenging. Although the EVF had create clarity and displayed much more information than I'm accustomed to in a DSLR, it just doesn't have the same clarity and realism as a traditional viewfinder. Impressive
When you want a camera that does everything, compromises are expected. To my surprise, I found very few in the RX10 IV. The lens on this camera is big, but it also delivers good levels of sharpness through the whole range. Autofocus is good, face detection works quite well. All I can say is Wow!
Got it this afternoon and immediately went birding. I use a variety of cameras for taking pictures of birds and have been doing it for a while. This camera is absolutely the best camera for a beginning OR advanced bird photographer. Keeper rate with BIF was very high. Great for all around photography, too. Replaced my RX10 iii.

Versatile small camera
I've just been using this for a few days (since it just came out a few days ago) and am still getting familiar with it but here are my initial impressions. I was a professional photographer of weddings and portrait work since the mid 90's. After shoulder surgery and backing away from most of the professional end of things I slimmed down my gear. Image stabilization in 4K video poor
I was so excited about this camera for video. The image quality is terrific and it is feature packed including great auto focus and a switch to de-click the aperture. What I did not realize is that the image stabilization is very poor in 4K video. active IS is NOT available in 4K. I was looking forward to using the camera for hand-held style documentary shooting but once you zoom in even a little every little giggle and tremor is noticeable and makes the footage unusable. I am returning the camera. For still photography I imagine this is an excellent choice.

Image stabilization in 4K video very poor
So much to like about this camera for shooting video. Great image quality, switch that de-clicks the aperture, accurate auto focus. BUT terrible image stabilization when shooting 4K video. There is NO active IS in 4K. Very disappointed since I purchased this camera to shoot hand-held documentary work. When zoomed in even a little every tremor and giggle is very noticeable rendering the footage unusable. Probably an excellent camera for still photography but definitely not for hand-held 4K video work.
