Impressive Camera

Aug 27, 2015

Hadn't upgraded my travel camera in several years. Last one was very good in many ways, but had no viewfinder. Never again. So, I tried this ZS50 with EVF. Very impressed with the software design and the info display in both the EVF and on the LCD screen. And the camera shoots RAW, which is my other must-have. Great zoom lens in a tiny package. One critique: the jpeg compression degrades the image quality too much for my taste. Seems like Panason... Show More

An excellent multi use camera

Apr 16, 2015

I purchased this camera when my previous medium sized point and shoot was failing. We take lots of family pictures as well as trip photos, as well as misc. photos. I also enjoy taking small videos. I have never owned a Panasonic camera before. However, I have owned several products of that name over the years, with very good results. Here's what I like about the camera. It's easy for my wife to use. I can get creative with it, if I want to. ( I e... Show More

A good choice

Jul 3, 2016

I bought this camera to use as a point and shoot when it was inconvenient to carry a full equipment bag. When working outside, going for a quick ride, or walk, I will throw this camera in my pocket and when I see a picture, I am able to quickly shoot a serviceable image. This is exactly what I wanted. So far, this camera has fully lived up to or exceeded my expectations. I have been pleasantly surprised with the image quality when compared to som... Show More

Top notch Compact Camera.

Jan 11, 2017

I purchased this refurbished Lumix DMC-ZS50 for my wife, she has a DSLR but likes a compact camera for candid round town shots. Because her vision is less than 20/20, she really needed a compact camera with a viewfinder which are hard to find, when I saw the refurbished Lumix for sell at B&H at such a good price, I decided it would be a perfect match for my wife. When it arrived we were amazed at condition of the camera, it was indistinguishable ... Show More

Very Happy

Dec 5, 2017

I was looking for a compact camera that offered a great optical zoom feature. Nature shots in the wild generally require zoom. I found this in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS50, where you have 30X in a camera you can literally put in your pocket. I am not hung up on megapixeIs, even though the ZS50 at 12.1MP allows me to crop liberally without noticeable drop off of print sharpness. The ZS50 has a myriad of features many of which I will never use. Ho... Show More

I am still trying to get familiar with the features. Overall I like it and feel great about the purchase. Seems like it is well crafted, suitable for the purpose.. Good camera

Aug 20, 2015

I upgraded form Lumix DMC-ZS25 after much use and abuse. The DMC-ZS50 has some great features that I'm impressed with and takes good pics. I take a lot of pics of my kids, they are active and catching that action is easier on this camera even when zoomed across the field/court. I also do a lot of hiking and kayaking. The 30X zoom makes taking wildlife pics easier and they come out noticeably sharper than my old camera. For a pocketable point and ... Show More

It wasn't what I needed

Jul 28, 2015

I had purchased this camera intending to us it while traveling overseas on days when I didn't want to carry my DSLR and a couple of lenses I was looking for a compact camera to use in a non-automatic setting most of the time (i.e., aperture priority, shutter priority, or good old fashioned manual with a hand-held exposure meter). Unfortunately, and as I determined quite quickly, although this camera could be so used, doing so on a regular basis w... Show More

Good deal for the price

Dec 24, 2015

I have the requirement of shooting both video and stills in situations where I cannot take a larger camera. To be able to take stills while shooting 1080 video is a real plus. The electronic viewfinder's compact size makes all the difference when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight. It is clear enough and sharp enough to make it worthwhile. It took a while to figure out the operational control of the camera. Once it clicked in my poor old head I... Show More

Excellent Camera. My third one

Aug 31, 2018

This is an outstanding camera. With intelligent automatic, it automatically adjusts the settings. There are several modes you can select or create a custom mode. You can select priority modes where a couple setting are automatic and a specific setting is manual. The view finder is valuable, especially in bright sunlight where the screen is hard to see. It has 30x optical zoom and an enhanced optical zoom of 60x. It has several settings for slow m... Show More

poor quality photos

Aug 26, 2015

Bought this to replace an old Canon point-and-shoot from 2006, and it turned out to be a downgrade. This took terrible photos in auto mode on a recent vacation, and experimenting with program auto mode, +/- EV, and scene mode did not help. For landscapes, and people posing in front of landscapes, the camera's algorithm caused ridiculous smoothing, to the point where it looked like a watercolor painting rather than a photo. When zooming in on wild... Show More

Very good compact camera, best on the market

Dec 7, 2015

I needed a compact camera that I could carry with me all the time. But it had to have a viewfinder because for the life of me I can't see how anyone can use a LCD screen on the back of a camera in bright sunlight. The ZS50 has a tiny but very sharp viewfinder, not the best but it works well outdoors. I have a couple other Panasonic cameras so the settings and menues were familiar and as with my other Panasonics I found I generally have to dial in... Show More

Beware of what isn't obvious...

Apr 1, 2015

At first glance this camera looks like a near perfect sub-compact. And in may respects it is. But for the intended audience, mostly Jpeg shooters, know that you cannot adjust sharpness, contrast, saturation, or noise reduction in camera. You can select many different color profiles, but you don't have control of those parameters. If that doesn't matter to you, the ZS50 is a camera that has a lot going for it, albeit for a pretty steep price- allc... Show More

Most powerful pocket camera I've ever had! Fantastic zoom!

I bought this camera for its zoom function. I like watching concerts and when times you don't get good seats a regular camera is useless. I had a nosebleed ticket and boy this camera looked like I'm really close. Works like my binoculars. I regret my purchase

I initially liked this camera in spite of its poor image quality and lack of low-light performance. But after one year of ownership I now regret my purchase. After fewer than (an estimated) 1,000 shutter activations the viewfinder is broken. It's as if it's misaligned. It was fine one day then when I picked up the camera a few weeks later (after being stored properly) the viewfinder wasn't the same. I've never had a camera fail on me. This camera... Show More

My main reason for upgrading was I need a quick & easy way to transfer my pictures from the camera to my smart phone without using a computer. The ZS3 does not have WiFi capability. I also wanted a longer zoom (30x vs 12x). My ZS3 had developed dust spots on the inside of the lens that was starting to affect the images especially in brig... Show More

Apr 10, 2015

I had the ZS40 and, for me, this is a useful upgrade, including the much higher resolution EVF, automatic EVF/LCD switching, better grip on the front and a time lapse mode. The ZS50 drops the GPS of the ZS40, though, if that is important to you. This is a very nice small sensor, long zoom, compact camera with an EVF. You have to be realistic though. It isn't going to compete in image quality with a much bigger sensor camera, especially if you pix... Show More

This one, with the diopter that switches from lcd screen to viewfinder when it senses your eye, is neat, and has incredibly sharp detail. I shoot people, buildings and landscapes at home and when travelling, primarily on cruises. I generally make 4x6 prints to include in ongoing scrapbooks; nevertheless, I shoot at high resolution. Portability is very important, as is the electronic viewfinder, which I didn't have on my Canon SX260. Canon was o.k. but the lens got scratched, so I replaced it. Love the 30x zoom (Canon had 20x). Pocketable Power

Feb 17, 2016

I have wanted a nimble alternative to my full-size DSLR for years. Most point-and-shoot cameras didn't fit my bill--I am too old school to compose at arms length peering at the back of the camera. The eye-level viewfinder on this camera was a first draw; the zoom was another. While I still ended u getting a mirrorless system for portability, the Lumix is the the camera I can have with me at all times with no hassles. One thing to be aware of is that although a 720mm (equivalent) is great magnification, you have to have rock-steady hands or extremely good light to use it!
