I'm Learning More the FZ1K can do More

Nov 25, 2014

I've had the FZ1K for a month now and wish I could use it for even more shoots to expand my knowledge of what the camera can do (and can't). First and foremost, there's so much beneath the hood that anyone who simply writes it off as a must have or hate it, simply hasn't DONE enough with it to back up the statement other than they didn't read the extensive manual. How many have used the 4K Photo? Time lapse (along with clip production)? The multi... Show More

Jack of All Trades, Master of Some

Oct 2, 2014

If my Panasonic FZ 1000 quit working today, I would purchase a new one tomorrow. That's how strongly I feel about the way this camera works for me. I currently own and use (much, much less now than before) a Canon 5D Mark three, and a Canon 1D Mark four. I have accumulated a fair number of L lenses most all of which are heavy. If I'm going to shoot something with one of the larger format bodies, (depending on the game plan) I usually wind up putti... Show More

I am VERY impressed.

Mar 22, 2015

I'm not going to write a long review, mainly because others can explain every nut and bolt of the camera. I will say however that after taking this camera for its first big test at a big auto race in Gainseville, FL I can say that I have a winner of a camera. I wanted a camera that offered an upgrade in shooting speed and image quality compared to my last camera (An FZ35), and this one delivers. Imagine quality? Excellent. While it's not going to... Very sharp high value all in one bridge camera

Mar 19, 2015

I own three EOS DSLRs and a bunch of highest quality lenses and Canon speedlights but was looking for something that would do it all in a lightweight travel camera. Of course the EOS cameras are the best, once everything is set up, but you can't often carry all that gear everywhere. Thus I picked this travel camera and it has exceeded my expectations. It also has some special features that are unusual and cool: Very fast focus. This cam somehow c... Show More

An excellent all around camera

Dec 23, 2014

As a owner of a full frame mirror less digital camera try to reach a scene beyond 200mm has been quite a challenge, the native FE lens current only offer 70-200mm at F4.0, large (understandable) and expensive. As my oversea trip looming I decide to acquire the Panasonic FZ1000 to meet the anticipated shooting challenges based on the camera's key capabilities of 25-400mm F4.0 long zoom lens, in camera raw conversion, 4K video, 120fps, time lapse s... Steep learning curve

Mar 19, 2019

My primary camera is a full frame Nikon, but I wanted something better than a cell phone for a walking around camera. I bought one of the mini sensor super zooms (24 to 2000) a few years ago, and most of the images at high zoom look like water color paintings! And the low light performance is horrible. The Canon GX5 with 1 inch sensor looked like a good choice based on its small size, but just did not have the overall performance and image quality... Camera of the future

Jun 5, 2015

Allow me to begin with the absolute worst details about the camera, one for the skeptics. This camera is producing the constant chaotic noise from the internal gyroscopic motor. You would probably not hear it in the store, but you would hear it at night in a quiet room. The battery life seemed formidable in the beginning, but it depends on the usage. I seem to have attained the longer time span while recording 4k video in 4k photo mode and photog... Show More

Good choice for a travel camera

Jul 21, 2015

I was looking for a good all-around point-and-shoot 20 MP camera with some decent telephoto and video capabilities for travel purposes. All for under $1,000. Something you could throw in a small carry-on bag and not be concerned with having to lug around the usual two or three inter-changeable lenses and everything else that take up a full-size carry-on suitcase. So if you're going to moving around all day long, you want to minimize both the weig... Show More

It Does Everything Right

Dec 31, 2014

As a professional photographer of 20 years who has owned many a pro DSLR system and pro glass, I can say with confidence this is a surprisingly effective tool for nearly every use one can imagine. From Portraits, to landscapes and video it excels in ALL areas. The lens from one end to the other on my copy is virtually flawless, sharp corner to corner, In fact no DSLR owner wants to hear this, but I've compared a Sony A77MkII with their top glass ... Perfect camera for me.

Nov 19, 2015

I am what you would call a novice. And that's being generous. I don't know much about photography, but what I do know is that I wasn't satisfied with the quality of my footage that I was getting with a late model consumer camcorder. I use the camera mostly for making YouTube videos in a variety of settings, many in beautiful outdoor settings. I have a DSLR that doesn't shoot video and it's great to be able to get DSLRish quality photos and video ... Show More

Good zoom with large sensor

May 22, 2018

Like most people, I take photos mostly with the phone today, but I wanted something with a long zoom and large sensor, and this camera fit the bill perfectly. I tried it out at some local bird sanctuaries, and it met my expectations quite well. Be aware that this is a big heavy camera. You may want a better strap to avoid a pain in the neck. But a DSLR is even bigger and heavier, and much more expensive with a decent 400mm zoom lens. I looked a... Show More

Excellent afforadable 4K camera value with limitations.

Dec 23, 2015

I purchased this camera specifically to shoot 4K on a 1 sensor, at an affordable price, with a good zoom range. The camera does this and gives very good image quality for my enthusiast demands. And it does this with a long zoom reach and a fast lens. And it is a great 'do it all' walk around stills camera to boot. Summary, no other camera can shoot good 4K at anything near this price and offer such versatility as well. But the camera does have so... Show More

I had no idea a bridge camera could do so much

Aug 7, 2017

I am planning a long vacay (my first in almost 20 years), during which there will be multiple flights (including short-hauls in-county on regional airways) and a lot of on-foot travel. I wanted a camera that would allow me to photograph my journey but not require me to carry 10 kilos of kit. Anyone who has traveled with a backpack full of camera gear knows the more you carry, the more that can be damaged by customs' inspections, lost in transit, ... Show More

Excellent camera for the money with some weaknesses like most cameras. First the IQ is as good as hoped took my first samples at 3200 ISO and checked them in Light room. Bit noiser then a Canon 70D but only by a half stop. The lens is sharp and surprising the sensors produces solid IQ about a third stop less sharp then a 70D with L glass. I still have a lot of testing to do with flare contrast and find a sweet spot for maximun sharpness but that ... Show More

I asked for and obtained fast delivery from NY to Phoenix. There are many, many features of this camera which I have certainly not had the time to investigate, much less use, such as internet connectivity and the like. I have had the camera only about two weeks and have been able to read through the 'Brief manual for a couple of hours. It definitely appears to be well-made, and ergonomically well-planned. Nice video camera, ok DSLR substitute

Nov 21, 2014

It shoots very nice UHD (not truly 4k) video. There is some noise in the image but that's to be expected for this price point. The electronic viewfinder - not bad for a video camera, okay for landscape shooting but poor for sports/action/moving things. When you pan/tilt, you get an image jitter. The swim is very small but the smearing in the image will irritate you if you shoot an optical DSLR.The info in the viewfinder for a video camera is very ... Show More

Excellent camera for travel

The Lumix DMC-FZ1000 is an excellent all-in-one travel camera. Its images are sharp from macro to telephoto. Photos across a broad range of ISO values have good clarity, color balance, and contrast, although, of course, noise becomes a factor at higher ISO settings. It is easy to shift between metering modes, auto-focusing methods, and to fully manual shooting. It has several direct buttons and dials that can be used to quickly set the camera for... Show More

Mostly Good

Jul 30, 2015

This is my third SLR-look Lumix in 11 years. I obviously like 'em. What I was looking for in the FZ1000 was better low light sensitivity. It's probably not as good as a full sized sensor, but it is a big improvement over what I had (FZ28), and I am pleased. The biggest pleasant surprise was the electronic viewfinder. It is large and sharp. The high resolution makes it easy to forget that you are looking at a screen of the real world rather than a... Show More

I know this camera has been around for three years already, but I wanted to finally upgrade from my Canon SX10 IS. I also wanted to be able to shoot 4K video, while still having a fairly wide zoom range, and without moving to an interchangeable lens system (I don't do enough to justify the cost and complexity of that).
