I am VERY impressed.
I'm not going to write a long review, mainly because others can explain every nut and bolt of the camera. Very sharp high value all in one bridge camera
I own three EOS DSLRs and a bunch of highest quality lenses and Canon speedlights but was looking for something that would do it all in a lightweight travel camera. Steep learning curve
My primary camera is a full frame Nikon, but I wanted something better than a cell phone for a walking around camera. I bought one of the mini sensor super zooms (24 to 2000) a few years ago, and most of the images at high zoom look like water color paintings! Allow me to begin with the absolute worst details about the camera, one for the skeptics. This camera is producing the constant chaotic noise from the internal gyroscopic motor. Good choice for a travel camera
I was looking for a good all-around point-and-shoot 20 MP camera with some decent telephoto and video capabilities for travel purposes. All for under $1,000. Perfect camera for me.
I am what you would call a novice. And that's being generous. Good zoom with large sensor
Like most people, I take photos mostly with the phone today, but I wanted something with a long zoom and large sensor, and this camera fit the bill perfectly. I had no idea a bridge camera could do so much

Solid Performer
Excellent camera for the money with some weaknesses like most cameras. First the IQ is as good as hoped took my first samples at 3200 ISO and checked them in Light room. Bit noiser then a Canon 70D but only by a half stop. The lens is sharp and surprising the sensors produces solid IQ about a third stop less sharp then a 70D with L glass. It shoots very nice UHD (not truly 4k) video. There is some noise in the image but that's to be expected for this price point.The electronic viewfinder - not bad for a video camera, okay for landscape shooting but poor for sports/action/moving things. After using a Canon DSLR for serveral years, decided to try something different. Reviewed a number of cameras and decided on the FZ1000 because it got very good reviews, my son has an older Lumix that still works great, a friend is a Lumix supporter and it has a long lens, i.e. 400mm plus a digital extension to 800mm. Up till last year I stubbornly stayed with Leica SLR, 3 heavy lenses, and Fuji velvia50 for brilliant color. I carefully followed digits progress for many decades and waited and waited..
