The Perfect Camera

Apr 24, 2018

As a professional photographer, I had been married to the Canon camera system for many years. However, as I got older and most of my images were being used on websites and social media, I felt the need to alleviate the heavier equipment for the lighter RX10 which has proven to be a smart move. The images are crisp and sharp. The camera is fast and the stabilizer is incredible, particularly when shooting video in a hand held situation. I am still shooting the RX10 after five years and have recently added a RX 10 MK III to my arsenal. My images can be seen on Instagram at richardryanj.

The best camera is the one you have with you

Great Image quality. Great value. The zoom range is all I need. Perfect camera to carry when I don't want to bring my much heavier DSLR gear. Also weather sealed at this price range is not common. Though the image quality might not be quite like my DSLRs, it gets pretty close.

Just what I wanted

Feb 8, 2017

As a 30 year plus professional photographer I was looking for a bridge camera as the arthritis in my back and hips was making my bag of Dslr and prime lenses just to heavy to hike and ski with. Although this is not a DSLR level camera my gallery sales have not skipped a beat. This camera will do most anything I need for my fine art landscape work with so much less stress on me. This has allowed me to continue to pursue my passion when I was faced with the real possibility of not.

Disappointed in Lawrenceville

Oct 10, 2016

The RX-10 is a nice still and live action camera. However, it should be more than that. I have an old R-! and the RX-10's still picture capabilities, while at a higher megapixel level, are mot appreciably superior to the ten year old R-!. Also, the the auto focus on the RX-10 is sluggish and the body, apart from the heft of the lens, has a plastic feel to it. The camera is a bit of a disappointment.

Convenient all in one travel camera

Apr 13, 2016

This camera is great if you don't want to carry several lenses with you. The quality of the jpeg's is great and raw shots can be made a bit better but only when pixel peeping. The camera is heavy because it is well made. Focus is slow compared to a DSLR but fine for a point and shoot.

I have mixed opinions on this one. I love all the video features, especially the XAVC-S firmware update codec, but the zoom is slow, battery life short, and photo quality lower than other cameras.

RX 10 needs Capture One

I am a freelance ENG reporter (Electronic News Gathering) and was looking to go light in the fight...RX 10 was looking very tasty! Ok so I have owned three (3) of these camera..The 1st one I returned because I was so disappointed in the Picture IQ, The Video and usability for me was great especially this price point. (In my work cameras usually on live about 6-9 months no matter what the cost or make). While on a job in the sandbox I met a NG pho... Show More

Great travel camera! Took it to Alaska and got some amazing shots, such as the attached. A very versatile camera, and much lighter than a DSLR. The lens is superb, the sensor quite good. Weaknesses: Short battery life. Lens flares when shooting into sun. High ISO is quite noisy. If these are concerning, get a DSLR and a porter.

Wi-Fi is a piece of junk...

...garbage, trash, you pick your expletive. Trying to set it up and getting it to work amounts to a useless waste of time and smartphone battery life. The codes alone are so OCD that it will take forever just to establish the connection. And then there's the actual transmitting. Simply imbecile, as it doesn't really allow you to simply transmit an image to your smartphone. Rather, you need to download this goofy Sony app, then upload images and m... Show More

Getting old. Just what I need

Aug 17, 2015

I am a semipro photographer. I shoot with a Canon 7D and 5DII. I use only L glass. My shoulders started to ache,so I started looking for a walk around alternative. this fit the bill in most cases. I do a lot of low light shooting in jazz clubs. with a flash it is almost comparable with my 7D. Without,it leaves something to be desired at 3200. Both my 7D and 5D II are great at 6400. With a smaler sensor, this is to be expected. When I'm not doing work for money, this is what I will walk with.

I bought this for travel, not wanting to lug my heavy Nikon DX system aboard planes, trains and boats. I've only used it two weeks, and we have a big trip to Alaska coming up, so this review is tentative. But so far in casual use I find it quite admirable. The IQ seems slightly superior to the Sony RX100 I have, and of course the zoom reaches twice as far. Handling was easy to learn, particularly coming from the RX100. I use Auto mode frequently,... Trading in my trusted Nikon DSLR kits for something more practical, I was about to purchase the Panasonic Lumix DMC Fz1000, but when I handled it in the B&H store I was disappointed by the light, cheap, plasticky feel. It was a matter of seconds; I just picked it up handled it, wondered if this was a dummy unit, and put it back down. Looked great on paper but not in real life. After that, once I started researching the various sensor sizes with t... Show More

Amazing Camera

May 26, 2015

I've been a long-time user of a well-known DSLR camera. I'm incredibly impressed with the equally high quality of the RX10 images and the versatility of the camera without having to haul around 20 pounds of additional glass. The RX10 provides macro, wide angle, and telefoto in one compact Zeiss lens. The constant f/2.8 wide aperature provides great flexibility for low light conditions, even at 210mm equivalents. As yet another great bonus, the vi... Show More

Very nice camera

May 7, 2015

I bought this because I was looking for something between the noisy 1/2.3 sensors of the megazooms and lugging my D800s with lens arround all day. Like my other Sony, (DSC HX-300) it takes really nice shots with a bright, fast lens. The Sony controls and operations take some getting used to, especially if you're accustomed to Nikon or Canon, but once you master them it's a breeze. The only negative is the limitation of a 200mm zoom, but as long as you are aware of that going in, it's not a major impediment. Really nice, clean pictures.

Outstanding Camera

Apr 16, 2015

I have used many cameras in my life. The Sony RX10 is a keeper. The beautiful image quality of the Zeiss lens, the fast processing, the comprehensive user settings and the physical controls make this camera a standout, in many ways reminiscent of the Sony R1.

f2.8 does not mean what you think

Mar 2, 2015

It is a solid camera and XAVC-S is a good codec. I really wanted this to be a dslr replacement, but it has a few flaws that I could not overcome. The compact camera form factor is fine and it is a sturdy build all around, except for the rear LCD. That absurdly flimsy hinged contraption is the first problem. The motorized zoom is great, and the manual focus option is as well, but it really needs a manual zoom ring/mode. Finally, I was aware the se... Show More

Have been a pro photographer for 40+ years and used Hasselblad and Carl Zeiss lenses for many years; getting back to a Zeiss lens on this camera has been pure joy. I've been shooting digital for 14 years; this is by far the best digital camera I have ever used and really does challenge the Hasselblads I used when shooting film. Best Compact Camera

Jan 1, 2015

I increasingly use this camera for causal still photography rather than my D7100. The sensor and lens combine to produce outstanding image quality. I shoot primarily in raw aperture priority but have had excellent results with grab shots in the automatic mode. It's expensive but well worth the cost. I doubt that I will have to buy another compact camera.
