Sharp & Compact!

Nov 27, 2019

I primarily use the 20mm (and the 30mm Macro) lens with my SLR Magic Anamorphic 50 adapter. Great quality, sharp, compact & fun!

Beware: banding!

May 8, 2019

This would be such a great lens if there was not a banding problem at high ISO! Some kind of electrical interference. It is a well documented and discussed problem. Also, it focuses at a leisurely pace, which means you will miss shots of animals and children. The focus is also noisy and produces a loud buzz in video.

Outstanding Performance and Value

May 5, 2019

This lens works great with my Olympus Micro 4/3 cameras. Autofocus is not as lightening fast as my Olympus lenses but it is not at all bad. This lens is very sharp. Wide open, it has great bokeh. Color rendition is a little cooler and less punchy than my Olympus lenses. Contrast is also lower. I highly recommend this lens for Olympus, Panasonic, and other Micro 4/3 cameras. It is also an outstanding value.

Fast 20

Just what the doctor ordered. I have a 40mm for my OM film jobs. The 40 is a press photographers lens, everything can be in focus at once, good for a quick shot.

Fantastic

Dec 31, 2018

Awesome lens for outdoor/street photography. It looks really discrete. There is some autofocus noise, most noticeably in a quiet room. You can feel the autofocus through your fingers compared to the kit lens or the pan 42.5 f1.7 (which are definitely quiet).

A little gem

Dec 28, 2018

I love the Olympus 17mm F1.8, so this pancake had a lot to live up to. After using both, I much prefer using this lens. Not only is it small and light, there is just something about the 40mm point of view and the colorsthat this lens produces. It reminds me of film, it just has a character to it that the oly17mm did not have. The auto focus is nothing to write home about, it is a little slow and will sometimes hunt for its target. But when you ge... Show More

Must have prime lens

Dec 23, 2018

Its a very sharp and light weight lens. I am reinventing my photography skills with this lens, like we used to do prior to the invasion of zoom lenses. The lens gives crisp and extra sharp images under diffficult lighting conditions.

One of my favorites

Dec 14, 2018

This is a great lens, very light and compact. Excellent for general use when size is important. Sharp wide open. Downside is that AF is a little bit slow and misses sometimes. MF ring is very smooth.

Put this sweet little lens on a small Pany or Oly body and you are all set to do some nice, unobtrusive street shooting. Fast, sharp, priced right.

Noisy but sharp

Oct 21, 2018

Got this used, and its a great little lens. Super short and light (86g/3oz on my scale), so its great for gimbal work. It's a 40mm f/3.4 equivalent on my Panasonic GH5, which isn't as wide as prefer, but for the price it's pretty good. It has great shallow depth of field for a micro four thirds lens. Now for the downsides My GH5 says switch to AFS (Autofocus Single) when in AFC (Autofocus Continuous). I am not sure why it says this, but th... Show More

Great Film Making Lens (Or Low Light)

Aug 12, 2018

This lens is beautiful. The depth of field is super nice, and even though it lacks stabilization, the G85's built in stabilization makes up for it. I bought this lens instead of getting the 25mm because with a MFT sensor, the 20mm ends up being like a 40mm. I know the benefits to a 50mm, but a lot of directors prefer 40mm (full frame). Here's a great article about it. http://noamkroll.com/28mm-lenses-the-secret-ingredient-for-achieving-a-film-look/

Sharp Versatile lens for landscape photos

Jul 2, 2018

This is my first prime lens in my lens catalog. The lens is fast, sharp and has a nice damping motion on the focus ring. I bought the silver version for my Lumix GX-85 and love the slight retro look reminiscent of classic rangefinder bodies in the past. It is very compact and light so it makes for a great travel lens. The 1.7 max aperture is also great for shallow depth of field and allows you to keep your ISO down for less noise.

Over rated.

My worst micro 4/3 lenses. Noise, not sharp wide open. I don't see the point of buying this unless is because of the size.

Fantastic Small Fast Lens

Jan 2, 2018

This little baby is fast, super small & very lightweight. I rented this lens prior to purchasing & it never disappointed. Colors are sharp, little to no lens flare & focus is spot on. The absolute BEST feature is its small size. It could be carried in your pocket, if need be. I highly recommend!

Great lens for traveling light

Dec 14, 2017

I bought this as a compact lens for an Olympus Pen-f I bought as a replacement for a previous PEN series camera to use as a walking-around camera when I don't want to tote a bigger Nikon. This lens is perfect in terms of size and excellent optical quality. I previously had an Olympus 14-42 ez pancake zoom lens that I intended for the same purpose, but I soon sold it because I was not happy with its soft optics nor with its quirky electronic zoom.... Great pancake lens.

Oct 31, 2017

I bought this lens for my GX85 because it's a flat pancake lens, and the camera will still fit in a large coat pocket with the lens attached. It seems sharp even wide open at f1.7. The GX85 came with a 12-32mm kit lens, and I got the 20mm for situations where the kit lens is too slow and where I wanted a shallow DOF. After using this one, the kit lens has remained in a bag and the 20mm lives on the camera almost full time. I didn't expect the lens to be as good as it is because of the low price. However, it feels solid and well built, and it's a perfect match for a small camera.

Good product, good services

Sep 11, 2017

I'm new to photography and I have chosen this lenses after googling some reviews on the internet. The fact that is small, sharp and has good low light performance (1.7 aperture) determined me to buy it. I think this is what a street photographer needs in his pocket. Maybe I'll come back later with some photos. Thanks B&H for promptitude.

Hunts a lot and is very noisy...

Sep 8, 2017

If you are looking for a great all-around lens, you might want to look somewhere else as this lens is very slow compared to the Pana 25mm 1.7. I also found it to be less sharp than the 25mm as well. I had such high hopes for the lens, but alas... In the end, I will be returning mine.

Sharp, Compact Wide Normal Lens

Aug 21, 2017

I bought this lens over the Lumix 25mm f/1.7 lens because I prefer a wider normal lens, and so far I've been very happy with it's performance. It seems to be slightly faster focusing that the first version of this lens, which was known to be an AF slow-poke. This lens is quite sharp, even when shooting wide open. It's also very quiet, so it's good for video work. The manual focus-by-wire is a little less responsive than I would like, but given it... Show More

A Fantastic Pancake For Your Pani.

The little lens is just awesome. Small but certainly not a toy. I can produce great results all while keeping your camera nice and compact. The Lumix G 20mm f1.7 II ASPH is one of the little gems of the Panasonic line-up. If you are on this system, and are considering this lens, just pull the trigger. It's small price and size are added bonuses, as this lens punches way above it's weight-class.
