Feature rich workhorse

Dec 19, 2019

I moved from the Sony Z1 HDV to a Canon DSLR for progressive 1080HD quality and depth of field control. I missed the solid feeling of the Z1, the built in XLR audio inputs and zoom control of a video camera. The HC-X1 offers a 4K option with all of the controls I use, and then some. Solidly built with incredible picture quality.

Run & Gun Excellence!

Aug 14, 2019

Got a DSLR that I love but has its place, the video on the HC-X1 is pristine and stunning to say the very least. Big league pro results for under $3000. The zoom is spectacular as are all the features. The LED could be better in bright light, lens hood fixes that. It performs and looks beautiful! I love it!

Full package camcorder!!!

May 24, 2019

This camera has it all for the price - great for one on one interviews up to large convention floor integration into A/V systems ($90 Decimator box gives you SDI from HDMI). Good in auto mode although you have to give it a few seconds to process the environment. Incredible manual control and customization. Barry Greens videos and e-book are a must to learn all the ins and outs of this camera. Ill be buying another soon!

Great camera! Great Price Point!

Jan 15, 2019

After having used a Canon XHA1 camcorder for the last 10 years, I needed something that was somewhat future-proof. This camera fits the bill! With my XHA1, I had to have a firewire recorder attached to it since I didnt want to use digital tape anymore. This really killed the portability of the camera. When I saw the HC-X1 by Panasonic, I fell in love! It uses very affordable SDXC cards (I even use it with 256GB cards-no problems yet! They seem to... Show More

Best 4K

Jul 23, 2018

I reviewed video from every source I could find for 3 months before buying this camera. I purchased it because of the 4K and high bitrate capability. I held off of reviewing until after I shot and edited a National commercial with it. I was a pure canon guy before this and always bought into the idea that to be a true professional producer you had to film commercials using a Canon C type it the like. I was wrong. The client did not seem to even n... Show More

GREAT video quality, great auto-focus, great build quality.

Very happy with this Panasonic !!! Prior to the HC-X1, I was shooting using my Canon C100. Having now used the HC-X1 on a few gigs, I can say that it outperforms the Canon C100. The fact that it is a fixed-lens camera doesn't bother me in the least; I am more concerned with shoot quality. I shoot mostly classical music concerts and recitals, using available lighting at the venue. This camera works well in low-light (definitely better than my C100... Show More

Great Camera for a Professional as well as a beginner.

Nov 24, 2017

I just got into the video side of shooting after over 30 years of camera production and I have used other products along the way and have had several Panasonic camera's. When I started into this new adventure I had an older Panasonic HD camera and it served me very well. I wanted to go to the next step of 4K so I did my research and decided that the HC-X1 was something to get started with as well to fitting my budget. After shooting this system I... Show More

Bought this to get my feet wet with short/indie productions for film school - not disappointed in the least. Though I'm still working through the ins and outs of what this thing can do, I know it will be with me for a while as a backup/bts camera when I decide to move up to the more complicated machines...

Viewfinder fiasco

Sep 25, 2017

I love the picture quality of this camera. That said, I find the camera practically unusable do to the viewfinders. I do a lot of outdoor taping and the LED viewfinder is practically useless. As another review states, they might as well have just put a mirror there. The glare is awful. I even use a viewfinder hood. On my other panasonic camera I am able to keep both the LED viewfinder and the eyepiece on at the same time as I'm shooting because I... Show More

My first Panny and I have NO REGRETS!!

Jun 21, 2017

So after being in business for 27 years and having owned/operated several SSony's (CCD-V500, PD150's), a JVC (DV500), and Canon AH-X1's (for the past 10 yrs) it was time to upgrade, and this time Panasonic had all the right features. We received our 2 cameras on a Thursday and filmed a musical with them that Sunday. My hopes was to get images at least similar to what we were used to with the Canons. (so we wouldn't need to re-shoot) As these were... Show More

Great camcorder! Going to buy another one.

Jun 4, 2017

I shoot weddings and events, lots of them. First, let me say that this camcorder is a bit advanced from the pro consumer camcorders. I say this because I read two negitative reviews and, in my own opinion, those persons perhaps do not know beyond the basics or maybe expecting something way farther advanced. Either way this is a great camcorder for what I do. My gear must include better than average indoor shooting with lower than average grain ef... Show More

Very good camera

Liking it. The LCD doesn't really show you how great the picture is. At first I thought the camera wasn't so good until I got the clips into my computer, then wow.

Torn between Sony PWX-150 and HC-X1

May 2, 2017

I'm a big Sony fan. I was torn between the Sony PWX-150 and the HC-X1. After months of research and reading professional and customer reviews I finally went to B&H to check them out. There they were, PWX-150 and HC-X1 sitting next to each other. In my opinion, both cameras are very similar. Top quality. Video is identical. I'm a world traveler so the Sony's smaller size was definitely a plus. I really liked the Sony. It was a difficult decision, ... Show More

I like this camera.

Feb 17, 2017

I like this camera. I mostly film stage shows like community theater. I've film one show so far and the camera has nice colors, a great zoom lens and records in 4k at 60p which is the main reason I wanted this camera. It seems better in low-light than my AG-AC160 but not as good as my Sony A7S ii (obviously). The design feels rugged and an improvement over past Panasonic cameras in this price point. I typically film in 4k and drop the footage int... Show More

My first real camcorder

Jan 26, 2017

Let me start off by saying this thing is pretty sophisticated and I'm still learning how to use it properly. I don't worry about low light because I use LED lights in most of my work. Personally I haven't see many cameras that perform well in low light. I currently use a small LED on the camera along with Rodes wireless mic kit. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1115091&gclid=CjwKEAiA2abEBRCdx7PqqunM1CYSJABf3qvaQ19ackSAmGeG1... I've only had this camera for a few days, and I can already tell I'm going to love it and that it is going to be a workhorse in my stable. Over the past few years, I've owned the Panasonic AG-AC160A, Canon XF200, Sony NX100, and JVC GY-HM170U. I recently sold the Canon and JVC and was looking for something to compliment my AG-AC160A which I use primarily for weddings due to its size and great low light capabilities. Poor electronics = bad TV viewing, grain, no run/gun

Jan 11, 2017

I find the HC-X1 is the worst purchase I have ever made. I really wanted to love this camera. Before (the missed) release date of Dec. 7, 2016, I bought this camcorder, the AJ-WM50, and spent another $135. on a dedicated Camera bag. When sadly, the HC-X1 finally arrived after Christmas, I spent day after day using the camcorder and looking online for reviews and help. I have read and reread both the supplied and online updated manual. To start wi... Show More
