APS-C, Point and shoot, or it's in the middle on its own?
Beginner, Enthusiast, Semi-Pro, Pro, I guess it depends on what kind of photography you do. For me I've been in photography for 26 years, except the last 5 years as I sold my DSLR setup from a back injury. The weight of the glass, body and type of wilderness photography I used to love with hiking was not longer possible and I had to accept this 6 years ago and sold my gear instead of it collecting dust. I've tried APS-C cameras, but still neede... Show More

Two steps forward, one step back
When I heard that Sony had finally added a touch screen and longer zoom to their ultimate compact, I immediately got on the notification list. On paper, the RX100 VI seems like a home run, and for the price, it should be. My experience - and results - have been mixed... it is by no means the perfect camera (but nothing is). To qualify, Ive owned nearly every larger sensor (1 or greater) compact and bridge camera released since the original RX100... Show More

Outstanding, versatile camera!
The Sony RX100 VI is a gem of a camera, an outstanding and versatile photographic instrument! It delivers beautiful, rich, detailed images. The auto focus is fast and responsive. The pop-up EVF is bright. The camera is small enough to fit in your pocket and go everywhere with you yet designed so that it fits naturally in your hands. I shoot with a Fujifilm X-E3 with an 18-55 mm zoom camera, a great combination but too bulky for a travel or go-eve... Show More

Great Travel Camera
My photography is mostly done when traveling, other than trying to photograph my dog, who like all my previous dogs, runs away when I point a camera at her. (They hate flashes and autofocus-assist lamps and they never forget.) I have used this camera on one day-trip to San Francisco and I am seriously wondering how I am going to reduce my bloated inventory of older no-longer-needed-cameras. In a good travel camera I want three things: small size,... Show More

Great Quality in a Small Package
I owned the RX100 III and was pleased with the quality of the images it took, but I found myself leaving it at home because of the limited 24-70 zoom range. I bought this RX100 VI the first day it was available and am very glad I did. The same quality but a lot more versatile with the longer 24-200 zoom range. I'm a serious photo enthusiast who competes in photo competitions and my main camera equipment is a top of the line Canon DSLR and a varie... Show More

Love love the camera, but...
First the good news. I love the feel of the camera and the straighrforward way it operates. I find it very logocal and I'm a Nikon guy. I heard so many bad things about the menue but found it easy to learn and navigate. I traded up from the Lumix ZS100, which in comparison has a far more convuluted system of controls. Tha RX100 vi feels much more substantial in my hands as well. The touch focus and expose on the Sony is so far superior to the Lum... Show More

SUPERIOR
The camera is solid, very well built, and performs very similar to prior cameras in the RX100 lineup. The images are very crisp, near 24mm and 200mm a trained eye may notice some slight details, but this is a pocket camera rather than a DSLR, so I had to remind myself to check image quality vs. my other point & shoot camera for a fair evaluation of the image quality. determination ... excellent ! I should give 5 stars!
I took out 1 star for one reason: no RAW reading from LR and CC (but don't worry they say they will update every 3 months, for now just use from Sony, they do have). I am the Sony lover. I use RX100 from mark 3, then 4, then mark 5 until last month and now this "new toy" mark 6. I just love them all. After reading so many complaints from this mark 6, I thought it would be a disaster to have it, but...turn out it is nothing. Yes, I agree I d... Show More

Powerful Pocket Camera - Very Sharp and Pleasant Pictures
Based on one week's experience, I am very satisfied with the camera. I use it mostly with the Sony GP-VPT1 Shooting Grip, which allows for easy holding of the camera, e.g. for overhead shots and for selfies. Even in camera Auto mode, pictures look very good in most situations, as the camera intelligently evaluates the photo environment and switches to the optimal settings. The mode selection wheel allows to easily set to Program, Aperture, Shutte... Show More

I really tried to like this camera.
This is the third version (I tried the m2 & m3) I tried. I was hoping for a smaller version of the RX10 line (at least something close) but no luck. I am not sure what others are shooting with this camera but I was disappointed in its performance for what I want to shoot. 1. The close focus distance on the zoom lens is terrible and no where near the RX10II. Trying to shoot flowers, buds, pods, insects; small items. 2. The photos are not as deta... Show More

The Best RX 100 Series Yet
Some will disagree with the title, judging that a faster lens (M5) is better than a longer reach. But I have owned a M3 and a M5 and I think this is the best RX-100 version overall. Having 200mm is a very nice advantage, allowing for more creativity and yes, fun. The lens seems very sharp at all focal lengths. Low light is no problem--can hand hold at 1/30 with 1000 plus iso for very attractive results. The physical form factor has not changed an... Show More

Very versatile and wonderful portability
I bought this to replace my DSLR which had just got too heavy and awkward when I am hiking with the dog and trying to handle his leash, my hiking stick and all our "accessories". I shoot mainly landscapes and the zoom lens is a very strong performer. I'm very happy with my choice - this camera really does fit in a pocket unlike the mirrorless and micro 4/3 models I considered. There are compromises. To use a filter you need to add a third party m... Show More

Fantastic camera, but associated smart phone app is a loser
This has to be on of the world's best pocketable cameras. The picture quality is fantastic, especially in dim light. It is good image stabilization. It is really small enough to go in a pocket. There is negligible delay from pressing the release to the moment the image is actually captured. What is there not to like? For a travel camera you want every photo tagged with the latitude and longitude, so you can keep track of the subject. (I jus... Show More

minor, albeit aggravating, issue
I owned three RX100 versions before pre-ordering the M6, which I received the day before a foto trip. I would rate my previous versions 5-star but the M6 at 4-star for the issue described below. I carry the RX100 on trips with my big-body Sony. I particularly enjoy the RX100 because it goes where the big body doesn't - meals, casual walks, a boat ride to Mackinac Island, etc. The M6 performed well and I enjoyed the longer reach. However... The best tiny do it all camera--but it's not cheap
If you want to travel light but always get good photos, this camera is tough to beat. I purchased it to replace the Mark II version (which still works) because this camera has an even longer zoom. The picture quality is very good overall. The weakest point I've found so far would be the corner quality at the extreme telephoto end. But this still lets me get good photos in concert settings where my seat is not close to the act. The two example pho... Show More

7 Thoughts
I am a stills photographer, use Sony equipment, shoot in Manual Mode, and utilize Flexible Spot to control focus. That said, let me share some thoughts on the new Sony RX100 VI: 1) The best way to maximize quality on a 1" sensor camera is to fill the viewfinder with the image you ultimately want. The less cropping, the higher quality. The zoom on the VI makes this much easier to accomplish. 2) There are some times you cannot "zoom with ... Show More

Actual 5 star camera (almost)
I like just about everything about this camera. - It starts up quickly - If focuses fast and has a variety of modes depending on what you want it to focus on. - It takes crisp, clear, and colorful photos. - It fits in my pocket so I don't look like a tourist walking down a city street. - Wide angle is great for area shots. The zoom brings you in close enough. I found the 3-1 on the M5 too limiting. - I can live with the battery str... Show More

Great street camera- inconspicuous size but loaded ...
I bought this camera 3 days before heading to Barcelona to start a cruise. I did not want to lug a lot of camera gear ( I own Sony AR2 equipment) and my only small camera (Lumix DMZ zs100) is broken. I have yet to read the instruction manual yet I found the controls and menu structure intuitive; I'm sure there is much to learn! I LOVE the (pop-up) viewfinder- which I consider to be a must have feature during daytime shooting in bright sun. T... Show More

Great small camera
I normally shoot with Sony a7RII and their f4 lens and find their quality to be outstanding. I wanted a small pocket camera for my wife when we travel. I first rented the RX100V6 and then purchased it. My main reason for purchase was small size and image quality. Small size: It is about the size of a cigarette pack. Easy to fit into a pocket, purse and etc. In this regard, it is perfect. Image quality. While it is not as good as my a7RI... Show More

So Far, So Good
I recently purchased this camera, have not used it much yet, but did attend an event where I was taking photos for the organizers. I left my full frame Nikon DSLR at home this time, used only the RX100 VI, and am totally satisfied with the images I made with it. Having the 200 mm zoom meant I could get good closeups of speakers without being intrusive. I also have the RX100 III, but it has become "glitchy" after 4 years. Sometimes it no longer zo... Since I am a working photographer I hoped to work around this with Adobe Raw, but the reviews I have read are very mixed. 2-I live in New Mexico which is extremely sunny. A fantastic pocket camera!
Thiis is by far the best and most versatile pocket camera I have owned. Tack sharp, with a terrific focusing system for action photos. There are numerous mode options. Also, you can still use exposure compensation. I have been using an Olympus Pen F with the 12-4... Show More

This is my first Sony camera, and I purchased it specifically to serve as a quality travel camera and I chose it after some hands-on research. My Canon G12 was stolen on my last day of a trip to Stockholm, and I found its rugged but portable versatility hard to replace. The R100 VI so far fills the bill, as the RAW images have been easy to convert to DNG in Lightroom (I'm mainly a Pentax user), the images are wonderfully sharp, and the battery li... Show More
