Outstanding sharp images and great zoom to 600mm!

Jan 1, 2017

On a recent trip to China I realized that my Canon T6s as well as Canon 18-135 Nano lens and Canon 100-400mm L USM were being outperformed by the Sony RX10lll I purchased for my wife in August 2016. While I was switching lens and carrying around 7 pounds worth of gear costing over $3,000., my wife was getting better pictures with the single lens Sony RX10lll, without changing lens and half the weight. After we returned home and I saw images on ou... Show More

An Amazing Camera

Jul 13, 2016

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 III is an amazing camera! I am a serious photo hobbyist. I have been using a Canon 7D MarkII which has become increasingly too heavy for me. This Sony camera weighs exactly half of what my Canon DSLR with a Tamron 16-300 lens weighs yet has a wonderful Zeiss lens with a range of (35mm equivalent) 24-600. The focus is super fast and all the important controls are on the outside of the camera. It is not heavily menu dri... Show More

Exceeds my expectations.

May 17, 2016

I've been a semi pro photographer for years, and now as I approach 70, I find that I just don't want to carry around 50 pounds of Canon equipment any more. I've been looking for a camera that would do a good enough job of replacing all my lens etc, so that I could get rid of the big gear. Now, of course, at 600mm the Sony doesn't equal a Canon 600 prime, and at 24mm it doesn't equal an L series Canon wide angle. That being said, it comes a lot cl... Show More

bought as backup camera. found it to be more useful. only shoot raw & aperture mode. good points are: 1. very good contrast, 2. image quality-can be gallery quality to between 14 and 19 inches, 3. focus quite fast and good - almost up to slr standards (have one image of damsel fly in flight), excellent butterfly camera, has been a good quick landscape camera, very good and easy reseting of focus point) a lot of options to set similar to slr - in ... I would recommend this as an all in one camera

Jan 13, 2017

The set up was fairly easy. I am a nikon person and purchased the camera to take on a safari to Botswana and needed to travel light, yet with a telephoto length lens. I have not tried to set up any of the special settings as of yet. Test images at ISO up to 800 were sharp with little noise.Camera is significantly lighter than my Nikon D800e, particularly with a 80-400mm lens. I have Sony's A7R2, A6300, A6000, RX10-2 and now the RX10-3. I used the RX10-3 5 days ago for an outdoor wedding reception that ran from sunlight to poorly lit darkness. We shoot both stills and video. The RXs are great video cameras but also impressed us with stills especially when we wanted to head hunt from a distance. With video we shoot some 4K but mainly 1080 60P @1/120 shutter for the ability to convert to slow motion. The control layout f... Show More

Long Anticipated

May 22, 2016

As a traditional DSLR user, I approached this model with some excitement but with some skepticism as well. What makes SONY RX10III special is the unique package (detail specs are not addressed here): sensor/quality of both stills + video; zoom range; body grade/quality/feeling; manual aperture and manual zoom; quality of the screen and viewfinder. After first weeks of testing my specimen (made in China) proven to be excellent on all vitals: AF; w... Show More

Extraordinary Camera - Very Satisfied

Jun 30, 2017

Well, I could not see spending this much for a travel camera however I bit the bullet and bought this after having disappointing experiences with two copies of the Panasonic FZ1000 which I returned due to lens quality issues. I am so glad that I bought the RX10 III. For me the image quality is just amazing - yes, I am a pixel peeper - and this camera does not disappoint. Focus accuracy and sharpness are nothing short of superb. The camera exudes ... Show More

Birders beware.

Jun 26, 2017

I bought this for the long zoom for birding. But what good is it if the pics you get with that long zoom aren't good? Feather detail is lost and the noise is very high. I spent so much time in post getting rid of excessive noise and sharpening feathers and even then it didn't look good. But it has its good points -- very fast AF, lightweight, and excellent burst shooting. It is super-simple to learn to operate also. I sent this back and bough a P... Show More

Amazing Camera

Dec 9, 2016

I bought the Sony RX10 III as a backup for Nikons for a long landscape photography trip. The Zeiss Sonnar lens is amazing. It yields sharp pictures handheld indoors at 600 mm. While i will use the 36 MP Nikon for wide angle scenes, the Sony will be used for tele shots and backup. It's far lighter than Nikon tele lenses and gives excellent results. There are no other 600mm f/4 lenses available that are this light or inexpensive. I like the old sty... Show More

So many options and ways to customize for my type of photography. Or just shoot on AUTO and the camera does it all for you. Great picture quality. Lots to learn - but not from the factory manual ;-(. Jan 16, 2017

I've had the camera for only a short time and had it out to photograph only once. I'm still learning how to get the best images from this camera but I am already impressed with what it can do. The most striking quality for my use is the lens, that will zoom from wide to 600 mm and is pretty sharp. That is the reason I bought the camera. Maybe I have yet to learn how to appropriately focus with this camera, but I've already missed focus on a few s... Show More

I have an RX100 and an a6000, and this RX10 brings something new - almost all of those two in one camera and more. DP review wondered why you'd want a 600mm lens...yes, for the reach, but also for the macro. This lens at 600mm is about all you need for beautifully sharp excellent macros, and you put a little distance between the camera and the butterflies (or whatever). Wide angle? Beautiful!
