Really great camera for a novice. Recommended by friend and it does a great job, especially on closeups. Zoom lens is amazing! Only issue: transferring photos to iphone. But, wonderful B&H rep helped and got it working. Very great feature! A little cumbersome.

Amazing Sony DSC-HX400V Zoom with GPS!
Although the Sony model HX400V is at least six years old, fortunately, it is still being sold. And unlike most other brands that are deeply discounted, this old cameras price is reduced by only 10%! But, I purchased it because I needed a zoom lens camera that satisfied my budget. Moreover, it comes with GPS that I was willing pay a serious premium to have. I have taken about 200 images so far and I am pleasantly amazed at its sharpness, color pre... Show More

2 pics of butterflies taken with hx400v
These pics of butter butterfly on thistle somehow got left off my review of the close up capability of DSC-HX400V. The pictures demonstrate like no other picture I've ever taken the incredible close up ability of the camera to create SNAP, DAZZEL and BRILLIANCE with razor sharp edges. The lens did not cost $10,000 and the camera did not cost $3,0000! The camera weight is vary light so you can take it with you and not damage your neck from a heavy camera and long lens hanging around it. When pictures like this come up you have your camera around your neck.

DSC-HX 400V's zeis lens gives outstanding closer photos
I bird with about 30 other birders each week and many are showing up with the new long zoom cameras. Many say that the closer up pictures with these 83X and higher lenses have not come up to expectations because of the compromise with the super long zoom range. This late summer, I stopped by a thistle in bloom with butterfies coming in to feed on the nectar of the thistles. The photos were not photoshopped except contrast and color saturation whi... Pictures after owning since 400 first came out
I have been entering Ind. State Fair photo contest for last 5 years using pictures taken from my HX 400 V. All have placed within 1 point of runner up in the largest (over 500 entry!!!!) category, color nature. The Carl Zies lens makes the camera!

An outstanding super zoom camera at an affordable price.
I own and use expensive camera gear, but I wanted to purchase a camera for my grown daughter that would have a good quality telephoto for wildlife. She is not one to use an interchangeable lens camera. I compared pictures from the Sony Cyber-shot with my own and was extremely impressed with the reach with which the camera could grab quality wildlife pictures. She is trilled with the camera and so am I.

Definitely not a full boat DSLR
I bought this to replace a Nikon D5400 with an 18-300 lens. Just too much to haul around at my age. The camera is very light weight and seems flimsy as compared to my older Nikon. The lens zoom range is fantastic and the test pictures seems clear for casual shots. I cannot get the camera to work properly in the macro mode, possible user error? Getting ready for a 9 week trip and the light weight will certainly come in handy but the plastic used in the camera is very thin so I hope it holds up well. I did a lot of research and this seems to be the best buy in the $400.00 range.

Handy Zoom Camera.
I love the camera. I bought it to replace my Panasonic Point & Shoot camera, which I am very fond of. But the camera is not as good as my Panasonic camera on some levels. I can't seem to focus on distant subjects that are small, like Dragonflies, which, are my favorite subjects, but otherwise i'm happy for the longer zoom, which is the reason that I bought this camera. I need to use it more for other pix taking to be to judge more.

An excellent alternative to multi-lens systems
I decided that, after 30+ years, I was tired of carrying around a camera and various lenses and made the decision to sell all that stuff and start using a reasonably good hobbyist point & shoot camera. The B&H representative steered me to the DSC-HX400V. After 4 years of owning this camera I just purchased a replacement - another DSC-HX400V. My original camera began flashing a fault code on the screen having to do with the autofocus system. I ha... Show More

Best ever Bridge camera
This is my third DSC-HX400V. I Volunteer on whale watching boats. the X50 Optical Karl Zeiss Zoom is so easy to work from close up to far away shots. Love the GPS data feature to catalog each of the sightings. I also photograph airliners at LAX airport, same love for the ease to shoot at distance with great results. Best feature also is to take the camera where larger cameras with detachable zoom are not allowed ( concerts)

WENT THROUGH TWO OTHERS TO FIND THIS
Now have it for 6 months: Have brief comments about the Sony HV400X wow! WOw! WOW! - gets better and better. Went through 2 almost identical other bridge cameras before the Sony A Nikon, and a Kodak with 60X zooms. NONE came up to this camera level. (believe it or not) I shoulda known. I worked in film/video production for years using Sonys. Now, Im between a photo & an art person. (Neither of them likes me.) I do Photoshop art things with photos... Show More

Read before purchasing: Out of order after less than 3Y
The DSC-HX400V is a bridge unit very versatile, pleasant to use, the zoom is very nice for animal or nature photos at great distance, the LCD repositionable is a plus. Unfortunately after less than 3 years of use the stabilizer breaks down, making it impossible to take sharp pictures. Thousands of users on the Internet have the same problem, see for example http://sony-e-62-10.tk/ or look for E: 62: 10 on the Internet. If I had known I would neve... Show More

Great point and shoot
I wanted to get a good point and shoot camera to get good photos and take it while kayaking. This camera has 20 megapixels and Zeiss lens. The bird, animal and close up photos that I have taken have fantastic detail and clarity.

Best feature of DSC-hx400V after 3 years
I have been using my 400V now for 3 years. The pictures have been outstanding. There are some tricks to make the pictures highest quality possible and I use them constantly. (1) a button on top nest to shutter release when pushed opens a window that allows you to set non standard contrast, color saturation and acutance. I reset these to O+_1 or +2 on contrast, and plus+1 or +2 on color saturation. This gives sha... Show More

BETTER THAN NIKON p900
I bought this camera first several years ago. the quality of the photos was equal to my DLSR cameras. When I broke it, I decided to get the megazoom p900 to replace it as I wanted the extra zoom to do wildlife photography. I did get the ability to zoom in more with the Nikon but at the cost of photo quality even in the optical zoom mode. I am so disappointed. Now, I must see if I can get my Sony fixed or either replace it as I am tired of poor photo quality. This is an incredible camera!

Amazing Camera!
I shoot with a Canon 5D M4 with "L" glass. My wife wanted a simpler camera to use while traveling. The DSC-HX400V was reccomended so I bought it. The camera is amazing! I was dubious of the 50X lens spec but it works far better than I expected. I took some nice flower shots and even got the Blue Angels. Best of all my wife loves it!

Loving this camera and BH Photo & Video's Customer Service
I have researched cameras for sometime because I wanted something that fit within my budget and could allow me to photograph Sports (rally racing, in particular), birds / nature, as well as floral arrangements and events I professionally design for and plan. This camera's long zoom has the ability to capture cars coming from a distance in clear shots, and has a great bokeh for close-up shots. Only thing I wish is for the auto zoom in / out to be ... Poor Image Quality, High Noise
My primary equipment is Canon 1DX based. I purchased this camera for use at the Olympics where I needed a point and shoot that is quiet with a fairly long telephoto range, and also HD video capability with good auto focus tracking. 2 more close up pics at full optic zoom
Was again really happy with picture results at maximum optical zoom. (these birds are Lapland Longspurs} Slight vignetteing was done on photo shop, not by camera as these photos will probably be entered in the Indiana State Fair. Have been hearing lots of complaints about picture quality of Canon and Nikon long zooms not giving good pictures at normal or wide angle. No such problem with the above Sony.
