IT WORKED FOR ME!!

Jul 8, 2011

I bought this unit out of desperately needing wireless mic. After checking too many reviews for any one person to read, I chose this one. It was right in my budget and even thought there were a lot of neg. stuff posted, I came to the conclusion that a lot of people want to be served champagne on a beer budget. It worked for me as good as I expected the signal was clear even with it being tucked behind the grooms vest, only a few brushing sounds w... Show More

Bang for buck

Aug 29, 2012

As a recordist, I know AT as a maker of high quality, affordable microphones--great pieces of engineering designed for sonic accuracy. But I was still skeptical, given the price and the function, thinking this would be some bare-bones compromise of a solution to the video needs at work, and that I'd have to deal with noise artifacts, lossiness, and tinny quality just due to the price. It was literally plug and play--plug it in, set the channel, a... Show More

+Improvement from Built-In Camera Mic

Aug 26, 2010

I come from twenty five years of engineering and producing albums in some of the best studios in the world. While I wouldn't put this product in the same league as Neumann or AKG mics, it is a great improvement over any consumer camera's built-in mic, especially for projects that require clarity of detail, such as narration. Camera mics might be okay to use for ambient sound and that's about it. Audio Technica is no stranger to recording studios ... Show More

Great for low cost!

Feb 21, 2016

These are perfect for anyone starting out and looking to get by on a budget. I've used these previously at a small business I worked for, so I ordered some up for my own video business. Used them this last weekend filming promotional videos for ice fishing gear. Outside, on a frozen lake, they preformed almost flawlessly. Decent range, my talent never really got much further than 100 ft from me, and they still came through very clear. Once in a w... Show More

Buying my third PRO-88W system today

Mar 11, 2009

Is this the best wireless lav mic set in the world? No. Is it plenty good enough for short-range interviews (within 30 feet of my lens) and other voice recording? Totally. I own a spendy UHF wireless lav set that is not only about to be made obsolete by the FCC, but is also so delicate that I'm afraid to use it on most of my news or low-cost commercial shoots for fear of it getting damaged. So I'm now buying a third (essentially backup) Pro-88W s... Show More

Exceeded Expectations

Jan 3, 2014

I read the reviews before buying and was stressed during my one-chance interviews that I might end up with ruined sound. Once I loaded the videos on to my computer I was relieved to hear high quality professional sound with good vocal range. Happily I experienced none of the rustling, popping, or radio interference I was worried about from other reviewers. In fact, the sound was so excellent I wonder if they were using the same mic? Great for small room, bad for large room

I bought this about 4 months ago, I got to use it for a interview in my house. It worked fine, however when I went to edit the audio the sound had alot of noise in it. I had to run it through a filter process to remove it (took extra time). I just used it for a Stage production (mic mounted at front stage on stand) and everytime someone moved cloes to it a hissing and pop, then it would go away. Distance was approx 60 feet with about 200 persons ... Show More

You get what you pay for

Feb 5, 2012

Like a lot of wireless systems, you're not going to get off paying a little and getting a lot out of it. This is true with this system. It's good for open spaces or one-on-one interviews. So if you plan on using it for a presentation or intimate interview, great. Buy this kit--it's a great value for what you want. That being said, it does get a bit of interference even at close range if people or other electronics get in the way. This can be pret... Show More

Excellence that's affordable

Sep 29, 2009

After looking at many different models and being discouraged by most of them, I was finally directed toward the Technica Pro 88W wireless lav and receiver. I was skeptical of the price, after seeing so many other wireless sets often in the $1,000s, but did the research and trusted a close friend's opinion. I snagged it up and used the set in a shoot the weekend I received it in the mail. I couldn't be happier. It has clear reception, ease of use ... Show More

Perfect for this Price

We needed a solution to video conference from a PC using Skype or other variables that would allow the speaker to walk around the room and still be heard. This fit that bill perfectly. You simply plug the mic out from the receiver into your PC's mic input, adjust mic settings in your PC and you're good to go. You might want to order optional microphones to find one that suits your needs, the included mic has to be really close to your mouth to be... Show More

Good quality, affordable

Jan 31, 2013

I finally had a chance to get this mic and a couple shotguns I also bought out into the field for testing. Compared to another brand I have that was half the price, this microphone had decent range without a constant buzzing or frequent clicking that the cheaper mic delivers. Sound quality is good, and the mic is quite sensitive with clear voice quality and even tones. It's sensitivity would make it hard to use close to another speaker, though. I... Show More

Generally good

Jun 7, 2012

I've owned the Audio Technica Pro 88W for five months and used it in a wide variety of professional videography applications. Here are a few important things I've noticed: 1. It works very well within twenty feet of your subject, provided that you have a clear view of that person. In other words it doesn't work well around corners, or even with other people standing between you and your subject. 2. It does not function well at all in a busy conve... Show More

Not Impressed

Sep 12, 2010

I've used this Mic system for weddings and a few interviews and it has failed me too often to where I can no longer trust it. I shot a wedding with it and I got interference from the wireless hand held the officiant was using. Anytime the subject was more than 1 foot away I would get static, even during a basic sit down interview. Out of the 5 or 6 times I've used this mike it's gotten clean sound once. The sound quality is pretty good, I'll give... Show More

Works great

I have only had the opportunity to use this twice since it arrived recently. The big test (and the reason we purchased it) was to videotape a school graduation, where we were asked to set up the camera in the back of the auditorium. We attached a shotgun mic to a stand in front of the stage, and everything worked beautifully. Transmitter & receiver were about 70 feet apart. Setup is easy and fast, and I had no problems. The Good and the Bad

Jan 10, 2016

The GOOD: Product is easy to use. You need (2x)9v battery for the transmitter and receiver. Device has two channels to use. Everything about using this product is common sense. The BAD: The camera adapter shoe mount that comes with the device does not fit true to my dlsr Nikon 5200. I can't attach it because it's gap is too small. I had to bend the adapter shoe mount to make it fit. Now, the mount has cracks. The lavalier microphone picks up an i... Show More

Works well - Great mic for the money!

Dec 20, 2011

Use this for doing interviews and other film/video work. Works well as long as the batteries are fresh and within 20-30ft - watch out for dead spots in the orientation of the receiving antenna. Same is true on any radio receiver but especially true with this model. Just saying, pay attention. The mic is NICE! Great clear audio for the money - assuming, of course, proper placement and whether or not it's covered by clothing. Not being able to cont... Show More

Constant Feedback - Poor Sound Quality

I am not an audio professional though I am tech savvy. I needed a mic to do some simple videos for the internet in a sound proof room in my basement. The mic is about 10 feet away from the receiver. Out of the box I got a ton of feedback through the mic. It sounded horrible and ruined the videos I shot to where I had to reshoot all of them using just the camera's mic.I'm connecting it directly to the camera. I've used both A and B channels. I sti... Great Wireless Microphone! Great Price!

Jan 6, 2014

Great microphone for the price. Being for a business, I had to search the internet for the best bang for my buck. The reviews for this mic were very helpful and all were positive. First impression was that the lapel mic itself was very small and flimsy...but after testing it, I was quickly proven wrong. I purchased this to be used in a kitchen setting filming cooking demonstrations. It didn't pick up any signal interference or shirt rustle. Even the cooking utensils didn't interfere with the speech. We also tested the microphone in our large classroom with overhead speakers -- sounded great!

No problems so far!

Mar 27, 2009

This is my first wireless mic purchase for video, and I must say I've been very pleased. My primary application is using this mic for sports commentators. The camera is placed at half field/court and my commentators can be doing play-by-play commentary from anywhere in the area. I've had very minimal trouble with interference, I've actually only heard a slight hiss once and I just moved the antenna and it went away immediately. I use a simple splitter, along with two ATR35s lapels - one clipped to each commentator and it works great - good mix of voice and ambient/crowd noise. No complaints!

Good starter Lav unit

Feb 6, 2015

I wanted to buy a Lav mic but didnt want to spend 500 bucks. So I saw this unit, did some research, and decided to buy for an outdoor shoot around NYC. The unit was pretty easy to set up, just needs some batteries, and its pretty much ready to go. I read some reviews that said they may get some itnerference but for my shoot I had no problems with these, the sound quality was great for the price, and did its job well. I see this as a very good starter unit if you want a Lav mic but don't want to spend alot. (Not sure how durable as I have only had them a short time, but so far so good.)

Not a $600 wireless mic, but...

Dec 1, 2011

I used the mic with my consumer camera to record a dialog and procedure between a client and a patient. I normally us a $600 mic system but did not have access to the more expensive unit at the time. The Pro88W worked perfectly for what I needed. The sound was good and it picked up both people even over a lot of background noise. The quality of the mic and cord construction is poor and I expect to need to replace it in the near future but it will serve for now. I was only about 12ft. away and the pick up was good with no interference from the electronic equipment in the room.

Great Solution for modest price

Dec 9, 2009

My greatest concern was sound quality given the modest price but it was as good as a wired mike for the 20 foot distance I most shoot at. The receiver unit fits well in my lighting shoe and the flex antenna is easy to move around. The lav mike and transmitter are easy to wear and operate. I used the system in a stage setting with lots of lighting and other wireless equipment which worried me a bit for interference - but there was none at all. The monitoring ear jack was great to give me confidence the sound was being recorded well. I would definitely recommend this system.

Good wireless mic for the money

Feb 3, 2013

For the money, this Pro 88W seems to be pretty good with limited use thus far. Close-in audio seems to be good and I will be using mostly for filming interviews and short training videos (15-20 feet). Use is pretty simple by just installing batteries and turning on. I would like to a better manual to explain expanded features. I haven't figured out yet if I can use a monitoring headphone with mic to ask questions while filming or if only picked up by the mike on the speaker. I will try to get info on internet but more inclusive manual would be helpful.
