Pretty Good Unit

Jun 2, 2015

I got one of these sets in this frequency range for an indy feature I was on. This helped to round out my one Senny G3 and three G2's. First a little back story about my G3. I had been noticing that my G3 was dropping out and getting what sounded like RF hits quite a bit, even when fairly close to the transmitter. On one beach shoot I had to adjust my position to have the TX in my RX's line of sight to stop the drop-outs. No matter what I did (ch... Show More

Great for weddings! Less issues vs. my G3's

Aug 5, 2016

Been using Sennheiser G2's and then G3's for weddings the last 7.5 years. Nice mics. Great sound. Fairly reliable. Very robust. BUT...I got tired of interference. Some venues I'd go to I always had issues. I'd always run a new scan and follow all the directions, even contacting Sennheiser support to make sure I was doing everything just right and yet on maybe 1/5 of the weddings I had intermittent interference. Just enough to be annoying and stre... Show More

I should have gotten this sooner

May 16, 2018

I shoot a fair number of interviews, and I've always used wired lavalier mics (Audio-Technica Pro 70, which have been great and dirt cheap). Recently, however, I found myself with a shoot in Vegas that was going to require a fully mobile subject, so I needed a wireless lav. I debated over the UWP-D11 and the Sennheiser G3. I watched/read as many reviews as I could find and both had their fans, but I decided to keep it in the Sony family (I shoot ... Show More

Not a Great Mic, Not as good as UWP series

Jun 30, 2016

I bought these to replace lost or broken UWP series transmitter receivers for our EX1 and EX3 cameras. Unfortunately, they suffer from several issues that make them worse than the old series (which were not as good as the Sennheiser EW100 series, either). First, the new lapel mic capsule is not omnidirectional. There is a definite fall-off of high frequencies. The result is a boominess (excessive low-mids) when placed on near the chest/lower thro... Good system for Sony FS7 Camera

Jul 29, 2015

Picked up this system with my Sony FS7 camera. If you also buy the SMAD-P3 hot shoe accessory, you can plug the receiver right into the hot shoe and you get a cable-free wireless system for your camera. The receiver gets its power from the camera, and passes audio as well. It's extremely convenient, especially if you're a one-man band operation. One important note is that you will need to shut off the GPS function on the FS7 camera or else you wi... Show More

After one gig, they work really really well.

Dec 26, 2019

I have only shot one job with this wireless setup, so that is my perspective on them. Having worked my way up the wireless mic ladder (from low cost to middle cost to these Sonys), I can see the difference that comes from buying at different price points. With these Sonys, I don't have to do *as much* post-processing work on my audio. Once I figured out the best settings for my setup and the way I work...these produced very good audio for inter... My Silver-Bullet Audio Solution.

Sep 22, 2014

I'm a web video content creator working out of a home studio with a DSLR capture setup. One of my YouTuber friends strongly recommended this piece to me and so far it has been worth the investment. This is my first time working with not only a lavalier but a wireless one. Syncing the radio and jumping into recording took about 10 minutes. Directions are clear. YouTube has a wealth of lavalier positioning tutorials that got me situated for the bes... Show More

Corporate environments = trouble

Nov 12, 2019

It pains me to do this, as overall I've been happy with these units (bought 2 of them in 2017), but they have a glaring weakness in corporate environments. Specifically, when used in a room with an Occupancy Sensor that automatically turns room lights on and off, the UTX-B03 transmitters send an erratically and heavily gated signal to the receiver, resulting in recorded audio that is noticeably bad and/or compressed. This behavior has been report... Show More

Perfect - Plug and Go!

Mar 21, 2015

Although I can't give technical input on these, I turned them on, plugged in, and was recording perfectly. Sound is very clean and ambient nise fairly low. Lower than a shotgun 2-3 feet away. These were recommended by sound guy at B&H over the Sennheiser as being newer technology and having heard good things about them. Also bought a Sony fs7 so I thought they might be more compatible, but there is nothing magical about the pairing. The Sony, how... Show More

A Sound Investment.

Jun 17, 2015

I use this wireless microphone system for shooting HD videos of weddings, meetings and events. I would rate it outstanding in several areas (1) SOUND QUALITY- clean, clear, noise and interference-free, at least in part due to the true diversity design with not just two antennas on the receiver, but two tuner circuits, and digital rather than analog companding. (2) FEATURES -Intelligently thought out features such as automatic scanning for a clear... Show More

Great wireless unit!

Oct 26, 2016

Great unit! The packs are well built, sturdy antennae. The auto sync feature is great, although sometimes it doesn't connect if you have the packs mounted already. I can't comment on the mic, I use my Sanken Cos-11d with it, but it sounds great. I've had very few issues with interference so far, and when I did I was able to use the scan feature to easily find a clean frequency. The range is also great...I think I was a couple hundred yards away f... Show More

Solid product, good features

Jul 16, 2018

The Sony wireless system is comparable to other similar price points on the market, but does away with the flimsy battery door that some have. I often interview non-film people for videography, and I need my mic to be bullet-proof, which Sony does well with its side-inserted battery holder. Good set of features with this unit. I recommend reading the entire manual and familiarizing yourself with all menus before you shoot. The wireless receiv... Show More

Easy to use

Mar 27, 2015

I am a novice videographer, but needed a wireless mic setup for field use in industrial enviroments. In my limited experience with the microphone system so far, it was easy to get set up and operating. The range, freedom from interference and audio quality are good for my application. Displays are easy to read. Visual battery indication on the displays is convenient. The only problem I have is that the receiver will not attach to the recessed sho... Show More

It's Just Okay

Feb 3, 2016

I bought this system when it first came out because the price was cut a hundred dollars and I wanted another wireless unit to go with my URX-P2/UTX-B2 system. The sound into my Sony EX-1R was tinnier sounding than my older system. Then, after less than frequent uses, it stopped working. It powered up but didn't get a signal no matter what frequency I used. I took it to an audio repair shop and they said it had some internal problems and I would h... Show More

Finally a wireless system that works

Apr 3, 2015

I own a Evolution series wireless lav from Sennheiser and I picked one of these up because I wanted to try another brand. I'm happy with the Sennheisers but I think the design of the Sony wireless lavs may be slightly better for the money. First off I get better range out of the Sony wireless system. Second, the battery life on the Sony system is a bit better. Thirdly, Sony offers frequency ranges that are below the FCC restructuring plan scheduled to go into full effect within a few years. That being said they produce great sound work well and are at a price point that doesn't break the bank.

Great Product

Mar 28, 2018

I have only used this product for just a couple of weeks in producing educational videos for U-Tube and Vimeo. Following the Quick Start sheet was straight forward and I was able to sync the transmitter and receiver in a couple of minutes. Setting it up on my video camcorder was easy. Without making any adjustments, I have found the quality of voice recording from that initial syncing to be quite good. The DVD disk has the manual in multiple copies for different languages. Since the icons are not labeled it took a moment or two to find the english version.

Appending My Earlier Review

Nov 28, 2016

Having now worked more with this bodypack system, I'm going to mention a problem that makes it less desirable to me as a lav unit compared with a Sennheiser G3... it has noticeably more noise/hiss than the G3. I've tried every configuration I could to optimize the noise to good audio ratio, and it always added more noise/hiss to the recording. It's not a lot and is barely noticeable when the volume isn't cranked up, but it is there. It's a shame, because just about everything else is superior to the G3's. But quality of sound is number one.

Nice system, cheap battery tray

Feb 13, 2017

We've been using these mic's for a year now, and overall I'm very happy with them. Dropouts are nearly nonexistent. They can be a little complicated to program, but once you get one the IR transmitter and receiver will let you match the others. My only complaint is how cheap Sony makes the battery trays. We keep going through them because the springs are so bad that they won't stay in the mics. You can use a piece of gaff tape to hold them in place on the body pak mic or the receiver. I just ordered 6 battery trays to try to get ahead.

Noob to wireless microphones likes UWP-D11

Aug 21, 2018

So this is my first wireless microphone package and Im not disappointed with it. I did a ton of research on the UWP-D11 lots of stuff you can see on YouTube. I initially purchased the 941 Mhz of this package and realized that you need a licence to operate it in the USA. so I returned it to B&H then purchased the 470 to 542 Mhz package with no problems at all. Im very happy with this being part of my boom kit and can see it lasting a long time. If youre looking for youre first wireless mic this is the one to get.
