Sharp and light
Only a 2.8, but it's one of the smallest, lightest lenses made for the A series full frame. I find it quite sharp, good color.

Short and Sweet...Light Too!
At 4.25 ounces it is barely noticeable on the Sony A7Rii...and it fits comfortably in a jacket pocket when another lens is on the camera. Excellent IQ, sharp, sharp, corner-to-corner, and this is confirmed in almost every review by a good reviewer. F2.8 might be a concern for some, but not for me, especially considering the size increase that a faster lens would necessitate. It is a great companion to the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 and, if it ever arrives, I hope, the 85mm Zeiss Batis.

Light, Small and very sharp
Great walk around lens. No, it's not a zoom so you do have to adjust your shooting position. The characteristics of the lens are easy to learn and take advantage. Some vignetting but photoshop will take care of that. Expensive, but you usually get what you pay for.

Love this lens
Sharp across the range, tiny and light. If you like this focal length, you'll absolutely love this lens. Highly recommended.

I really like this lens
I have been using it to do portraits of folks in public places. The images are great with this lens. It is non-invasive to use when approaching strangers and asking permission to photograph them.

Great lens
Not the fastest lens, but compact and sharp from corner to corner. Love zeiss glass, especially with what they're doing with sony lenses.

A tiny contender
I have never owned a 35mm prime. I've always shot on a 24Lii or something wider. Ever since I bought the a7rii, I decided it was time. I definitely didn't want the zeiss 1.4 because that is just stupid big for an a7r. I then did some research between this lens and the loxia 35mm. I really wanted the loxia, but after reading a couple charts, this lens resolves about the same at most apertures between f/4-11 and has autofocus. So I decided to try t... Show More

Best Choice for 35mm Prime
The Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 is terrific. After researching the 35mm f/1.8 and the 16-35mm f/4 options, I recommend this lens. It is half the price of the other two lenses and excellent for daylight and sufficient for low light photography with the Sony a7RII.

Best lens for your A7 if you actually shoot all day.
I don't understand why this lens has anything less than 5 stars from anyone. Yes, there is vignetting when shot wide open. No, there's no Image Stabilization. Yes, it's only f/2.8. SO WHAT? This lens is TINY and weighs almost nothing. When attached to a Sony A7ii, you don't need anything faster than f/2.8. The image stabilization allows me to shoot at 1/20 very safely, and I've included a handheld shot below shot at 0.8 seconds!!!! The only compe... Show More

Great little lens
Love that it's small, light weight, and the auto focus on the eye works with the Sony A7R II. Usually lenses with an adapter to mount on a Sony body won't have some features working like auto focus on the eye. It's a nice feature when shooting people. Not sure if it's worth $ tho but it's quite the small lens that packs a punch. Much more likely to grab this camera/lens combo to go impromptu shooting because it's so small and light weight. Mainly got this lens for street photography.

Great little lens
Great little light weight lens. Auto tracking of the eye works well on the Sony A7R ii. No noticeable lens distortion.

Great potential but falls short
The lens is used as an on camera walk around lens. Was expecting super sharp images with this lens. Was generally pleased with the images but the sharpness did not impress me for a full frame camera and lens combo. I achieved a better result with a sigma 35 mm lens on the Sony A6000 with its cropped sensor. The former factor is great and makes using the camera a joy but if you are looking for super sharp images this lens is not the one. If you are invested in the Sony AR 7 or 7r then this lens does not compliment the capability of this camera. I would not recommend it to a friend.

Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA Lens by Sony
Love how light the lens is. Great for traveling. I purchased it in addition to the A7ii. Looking forward to playing with it more, but for the several hours I've used the lens it is responsive & great. I would give it 5 stars if you could get the f1.4 for the same cost. 5 stars for it's lightweight and responsiveness. 4 stars for aperture.

This was a great purchase
Yes, the others are right when they say this lens is sharp. I also agree that its small size and light weight make it a great match for the Sony A7 (which is what I use). I also find that the colors in the images I take with this lens are almost exactly like what I remember from the scene--hardly any color correcting is needed. And for me, the lens is also very versatile--normally I am out in nature taking pictures of flowers, but I took it to an... Show More

Great Lens For the A&
Perfect complement to the compact, light yet feature rich A7. This is the lens I regularly run on my A7. The lens produces wonderful bokeh (almost to much sometimes) and is very sharp. I really do not need anything faster for most of my shots. Would be the perfect lens for the A7 but for the quite noticeable vignetting at high apertures. I've handled this where necessary by cropping, but this seems a lot of money for a lens that has noticeable vignetting. Very, very smooth manual focus (and I use this lens almost exclusively with manual focus). I run this without the (weird) stock lens shade.

Sweet optic!
The combination of the compact size and sharpness justifies the high price tag. It would be nice to have a f/2.0, but I guess that would make the lens allot bigger. Was thinking about either this little thing or the more recent FE 35mm 1.4, happy I went compact.

great lens
I would say it doesn't get to the superb quality of FE 55mm 1.8, it is another great lens to own. I would like to add that it is certainly a tad expensive for a 2.8/f but you get the small form factor which might be more important to some people.

Very sharp at almost every stop
This was the first lens I purchased for my Sony A7ii and I have not regretted it. It is sharp as a pin at almost every stop, showing a little bloom at it's smallest aperture. Easily one of the best lenses in my, admittedly non-pro, collection.

Sharp Prime
I sold my Leica 35mm Summarit to fund this as I wanted the auto focus and the electronic contacts. I truly loved my Leica lens keep in mind. Before I did though, I rented one from Lens Rentals to thoroughly test. That is when I knew for certain that it was the right lens, and every bit as good as all the reviews stated earning it 5 stars. I shoot for a living and have used and owned many lenses over the years, and I can honestly state that this is among the sharpest.

sony/zeiss 35mm f/2.8
The lens is excellent. I use the lens with the A7II. It's very compact and the hood is really nice. It really protects the lens while minimizing the extension from the lens. Being of Zeiss construction, it feels very well made. The focus ring has a nice stiffness to it. No complaints whatsoever.

Too much vignetting, too pricey
The only real advantage of this lens is its size and weight. Very portable and lightweight and this, together with its 35mm focal lenght, would make it a great default lens to keep on the camera almost always (or so I thought). However, the images it produces suffer from heavy vignetting at most apertures. The greater the aperture, the worse the vignetting. It is really horrible when used at f/2.8.Other features like autofocus and sharpness are just average, not bad but also not exceptional. No image stabilization. At this price range, I would expect a much better product.

Great lens for the A7
I got this lens for a sony A7. Great lens. Sharp and all the rest. Also allows for autofocus during video which is a plus. The autofocus is a little slow but for slow motion shots it works well.
