I bought this mic primarily for use during skype calls and the occasional video game session, and it's more than adequate for the job. The mic generally sits about eighteen inches away from me and has no problems picking up my voice, although it also picks up the clacking of my keyboard with relative ease as well. I've spoken with several people over skype and in-game voice chat. Everyone has said that there isn't any background noise or hiss, and the audio quality was good. I don't deal in pro audio so I can't give any insight into how this mic would work for professional projects or productions. The mic is quite light with the base being significantly heavier. When not in use, the mic folds into the base, being secured by the clamp that is meant to be used for clipping it to a laptop. Length and width is less than that of a credit card, although it's obviously deeper. I have two problems with the mic. The first is that the ball joint that connects the mic to the base is very loose. The mic will stay in the position you put it, but a slight shaking of the stand will move it. The ball is made of plastic and connects to a metal socket. This seems to be the least durable part of the mic. The second problem is the clamp on the base not accommodating anything larger than about an inch. I am using it with my desktop, but cannot clip it to my monitor, monitor stand or keyboard because of the tiny height tolerance of the clamp. The mic also has an LED that flashes red when there is audio clipping and a headphone jack, which I haven't used, and so cannot comment upon. The top half of the mic is metal with the bottom half being plastic. The bottom half of the mic heats up slightly when being plugged in for a long time. Mic operated correctly upon being plugged in. Having said all that, this mic is more than worth the asking price. Setup: Windows 8 PC with a sound blaster card. Connected via mini-USB via the monitor pass-through. ... More

I've been recording covers for quite a few years now and I've tried many products, but this guy really surprised me in many ways. The Samson Go Mic came around a week ago, and first of all, this thing is small, very small. It's very easy to set up, just plug and go, worked on pretty much all platform. The mic has a built in clip that can clip on to your mic stand, and it clips on pretty much anything...The recording is very clear, just the way that you would want your recording to sound. There is a direct output from the mic itself with absolutely no delay, so you get to listen to how yourself sound like first handed. But the recorded result does not sound like what comes out from that output. An other thing is, the mic cannot handle sound that is too loud, if you want to record heavy metal, this is not the mic for you. Overall, this mic is absolutely great, especially for its low price. I know many people prefer the Snowball mic over the Go mic when it comes to USB recording, but the Go mic is much more easy to bring around to places and I personally prefer the Go mic's result than the Snowball USB mic. ... I guess I wasn't paying attention to the specs, but I was surprised by how small this guy is, photo attached. I'm using it for iPhone calls on my iMac (now with that feature in Yosemite), so the size is a plus--less desk space. The quality is better than with the built in mic, but not night and day better. I'd say 20% better.

I recently purchased this thanks mainly to the reviews on here and the real-world examples of its use posted on YouTube. I have been toying with the idea of adding vocals to my tracks for a while and this decision was finally sealed by an online contest that supplied only the lyrics to which I have to record vocals. Really, the mic is awesome for its size and price point and I love the fact it has three different settings (cardioid, omni, -10dB); I also purchased a pop filter to avoid those plosive bees and pees when using the -10 setting. I have done several sound tests and the vocals sound like they were recorded in a studio. Considering it's small size and supplied carry case it's a perfect portable recording solution. Although the pop filter is big (6 inches) it actually doubled as a handy mic stand right out of the package though clearly reduces the portability factor. As others have said, you have to pay attention to your settings and ensure that the Go Mic is set as your input device when you're recording... this took me a little while to figure out in FL Studio but I got there in the end. ... I purchased this product for several reasons. 1. For use with Skype on my laptop. 2. For use with voice recognition software. 3. Small compact size. Easily transported. 4. Quality construction. 5. Recognized brand name. this product really fulfilled most of my desires. Basically, the only issue I have is perhaps that it didn't meet my expectation of high accuracy for use with voice recognition software. It works very well, however I had hoped to be able to achieve higher accuracy ratings than it seems to provide based on reviews of other microphones by the same manufacturer. The construction is solid -- much better than the flimsy plastic microphone which I easily broke. It is easy to use. It works great with Skype. And it doesn't take up a lot of space in my briefcase. All in all, I would definitely buy again and would recommend it to other people. ... More

We have two of these and use them extensively for voice-over recording on videos. The switch on the side provides three settings: direct, mid-range and all-around (about 270 degrees). We often record in mid-range and the quality is great. The only component that should be included is a pop-filter, but it does quite well on its own. It should be noted that this is not a full-professional grade gadget. It is significantly better than using, say, an iPhone's earphone mic set but not a studio quality microphone. With a non-echoing room however, you can get close to studio quality if you try hard enough (we have!). I like the size (relatively small), the semi-hard carrying case, solid build quality (it has a bit of weight to it) and all round high performance. Covering it with a thin sock add additional filtering. ... More

Have its big brother, the Samson G-track at home and it's serves me well, but was looking for a smaller travel-mic that isn't aweful for creating tutorials and talking to clients via skype etc. This does the job beautifully. It's really quite small, but the metal clip makes it heavier than I thought it'd be. That being said, at least it doesn't feel like it's cheaply made, though I do worry it may scratch the finish when clipped to my Macbook Air. But skype calls have been ultra-clear compared with the built-in iMac 27 or MBA mics and I've moved to making more and more business calls over Skype since I can easily record conversations and be hands-free with great audio quality. Great value, results and super-easy to setup and use. Love love love .... ... More

As someone that spends a lot of time Skyping with others, this has been a godsend. I don't like traditional headsets, and I would commonly just have a headset set down somewhere, and used regular ear buds if I needed it. Pros: - Small - Portable - Once it is in place, you can forget about it (if its fitted to your laptop monitor) - Light changes to red if the volume peaks. Cons: - Always on (if connected via USB) I wish there was a way to turn off the light. - There isn't anywhere in the manual to explain the different modes of the mic. A google search fixed that though. I've been told that I sound pretty decent, and can even be heard from a few feet away, talking quietly. I wasn't expecting this, but I'm happy with it! It is a bit troublesome to figure out which mode to keep the mic on when you have a desk fan on/window open as I constantly do. Happy with the product though! ... More

Maybe I got a lemon, but I've had nothing but problems with this mic. It produces noise and static that is dependent on exactly how the usb cable or the headphone are plugged in. Seems silly, but to make it sound clean I HAVE to plug in headphones to it so I can hear if it's producing noise or not, and jiggle the headphone jack or the usb cable just right until it sounds clean. I've tried two different usb cables so I can probably rule that out. This doesn't happen every time I use it, but about half the time when using for work video calls. Very annoying when I have to pause at the beginning of the call to fix the mic before proceeding. Also, the clip is designed only for very thin laptop screens. It's not big enough to clip onto a monitor like mine, which has about 1 thick bezel. ... More

I can't believe the playback quality that I get from this little mic. The Go Mic beats all other portable mics hands down. If your on a budget, this little mic delivers for under 40.00. I use it on the road but it competes with my 150.00 home studio mic. From 3 ft away it picks up my acoustic guitar beautifully. Don't usually do reviews but for the price, the Go Mic is exceptional.

I previously used a Logitech USB Desktop Microphone for my Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software and it worked very good. But the Samson Go Mic has superseded my expectations of it being a little better than the Logitech. Excellent microphone for the price. Go Mic is positioned approximately 14 inches in front of my mouth and 1 inch lower.

So small I can hide it in my hand. Even when it's in its pretty sturdy case. I am used to larger professional-level mics with big sounds. But I really needed something small when traveling. It works beautifully with my MacBook Pro and Audition. The sound is clear and clean. Of course, it can't compare to pro mics costing handfuls of dollars more. It surprised me though. For its size, it punches way above its weight. The build is sturdy. Nothing feels flimsy. It's also very easy to use. Just plug it in.

I am using this microphone instead of the built-in laptop microphone or basic inexpensive analog voice microphones I had been using previously with my computer recordings. I like that I can simply plug the GoMic into the usb of various assorted computers I use and simply get a clean sound. With the laptop the fan noise is eliminated and with my older computer the hum from the analog input is eliminated.

Using this as an instructor in Zoom classroom meetings and recording lectures. I don't have experience with microphone setup, and it took me a couple of Google searches to get it adjusted. Once I got it set up the sound was very good and got rid of all the other room noise and friendly family sounds. I also enjoyed the good price. Including photos of the side switch (official name mode switch?) and of testing with headset plugged in. My setup (for now): taped to the top of the iMac, tilted towards my voice, staying about a foot or closer. I ended up setting the GoMic's side switch to the middle setting. I tested this out with Zoom's Test Microphone and Speaker. So if you're new to this like me, hope this gives you some ideas. ... More

I only use the middle setting (-10db) with a fairly close proximity to my mouth. There is a bit of p popping if you don't use a pop filter but I just used a foam filter and it works fine. I am using it with BossJock for podcasting and get some really clean recordings. It seems fairly sturdy and has a strong clip. Love it...you should buy it. Use the product for interviews, voice recording to import in other projects. Totally satisfied with the value and my purchase. Love the size, it's not cumbersome, very portable. It's stylish & professional looking. This may or may not be important for others but I love the package it came in. Very useful carrying case that can be used for other accessories. The only negative is you can't adjust the swivel height to extend the mic. Worked with Garage band, couldn't get it to work with Audacity?

This unit is rather small, but not tiny. It comes supplied with a USB cable of decent length. Of course, sound quality is priority #1, and this shines very brightly. From a room inside a house, it picks up everything inside that room and even outside. It works much better than a headset with a microphone 2 away from the speaker's mouth. Sound quality is great - doesn't clip the lows or highs of voices, but doesn't introduce the Pop and S's normal to micrphones. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to my closest friends.

I love this mic. It is plug and play. I had one I loved and had to lend it out during the pandemic. It was nice to find another at only about $10 more than I paid for the first one a while back. It's a solid performer whether sitting on your desk (any adjustable angle), or mounted on your monitor (also adjustable) for a Zoom OR used as a better mic in for your computer when used with any app. As a professional editor, I would not use it for voiceover work, but you'll have the best scratch tracks in town.
