Hunting for Focus
All the positive comments for the other reviews are true. I especially like that the lens is light, fast, and creates a nice bokeh. I only gave it a four because it takes longer to find focus than the Lumix 12-35mm. I stay in manual but use push-auto-focus to set up the shot. The 12-35 finds focus quickly while the 42.5 does quite a bit of hunting.

Amazing, Sharp
First of all IBIS does makes a difference. 5 axes already included on my G9 help a lot but the extra lens IBIS is always welcomed. Portrait photos look sharp and have no chromatic aberration on my point of view, so far my customers feel pleased with the photos.

Amazing
lightweight. Amazing bokeh. fast focusing. Exceeding my expectations for a F1.7. Good price especially when comparing to the nocticron af F1.2 and 3x the price.

The Lens I've Searched For...
After trying three different 4/3 PORTRAIT lenses I choose the Lumix because it looks the best, feels the best and on my PEN F functions the best! I would certainly buy again.

Horrible focus on g85
The lens is very sharp and provides great dof, but it is so slow to focus and hunts all the time. I used this lens for an interview on my b cam. The subject kept moving back and forth and the lens kept over shooting when focusing. There was also a noticeable 3 to 4 second delay. I have no issues with the kit 12-60mm lens when set to 45mm as a comparison.

Great for interviews
Ive used this lens for a couple of documentary interviews. Its the perfect focal length for head and shoulders, and the relatively fast aperture provides a nice bokeh to keep viewers focused on the subject, not the background.

In their face
This is not a focal length that I use often, generally getting to it with a zoom. But this lens was so often recommended that I decided to try it. It is remarkably light and compact, and on my E-M5 is unobtrusive enough to capture pictures of the grandkids (the kids are too fast-moving to call them portraits).

Amazing lens
One of the sharpest lenses in the m43 lineup without spending too much. The autofocus is fast and accurate, its amazing in low light wit its wide open aperture, and it produces beautiful bokeh and shallow dof.

An excellent portrait lens
I purchased this because the price was attractive and I wanted to add a fast portrait lens to my micro four-thirds camera bag. This lens is an excellent value; the images are sharp and clear even at the widest aperture. The autofocus performance is fast and accurate. The build quality is not as robust as that of a more expensive lens, but since one of the points of doing M43 photography is to travel light, I dont see its modest construction as a flaw. Overall, I have been very pleased with this product.

Favourite MFT lens
This baby has become to be my absolute favourite in the MFT system, a go-to lens, even though I mostly do street photography and candids. Granted, I havent used Leica branded lenses yet, but from philosophical perspective this one is quintessentially the essence of MFT as a system - compact, cheap, and good-enough. Good-enough is probably a bit of an understatement though. Its image rendering is gorgeous. I has got that soft (in a good way) fil... Show More

Sharp and Clear
I was previously using a Nikon 50mm with a M43 adapter. This is so...much...better! Super sharp and super clear

Sharp, Light and Bright!
I love, love, love this lens! It makes my GH5 so much lighter to use than my zoom lenses. Really sharp and the 1.7 really helps with low light situations so no more having to crank the iso to 6400 in most situations and it has creamy bokeh. This the and the 25mm could handle most photography situations. For video it makes a little noise using afc but not too loud. The pro zooms are best for silent shooting. Overall great buy!

Not really impressed
From all the reviews I've read I thought this would have been a lot sharper than it is. Am thinking of returning it. Neil

Lightweight!
I love this lightweight lens; it's clear and sharp and allows me the bokeh I'm looking for. I highly recommend this lens for portraits and still life shots.

Great lens for every day use
Love this lens for its good auto focus, shallow depth of field and sharp images. I should have purchased this lens from the beginning.

Great things come in small packages
The 42.5mm is a great compact lightweight lens with amazing good performance. I use this with the GX85. For me, it's more than just a portrait lens. With the GX85, AF speed is amazing fast and accurate for stills, the Dual IS allows for hand held bursting while panning fast. And does smooth hand held video panning. The Bokeh is excellent, and it can close focus less than a foot. The only cons of this lens is the focus by wire. That makes MF dif... Show More

Good lens
I'm no expert, but this lens is shooting a solid portrait with good depth-of-field and good blurring in the background. I'm looking forward to shooting it at night soon. I feel this was a good purchase and complements my kit 12-60 and the 14-140 well. Net up will be something with a wider angle.

Amazing Lens
I started using this lens year ago with my Olympus E-M10 and E-M5 Mark II. I never change the lens since the first day!

Impressive lens, great for things other than portraits too.
I splurged and bought this lens after buying a few cheaper zoom lenses from both Panasonic and Lumix, realizing it would be a better bang for my buck in the long run to buy my "goal" lens rather than wasting my money on cheaper ones in the meantime. I bought this lens before fully understanding the G7 that I was using it with, but was still able to get clear, crisp, and colourful photos - as I've grown in my photography skills I've found so many ... Outstanding
Individual copies may vary, I suppose, but my 42.5mm f/1.7 happens to be one of the sharpest lenses I own, even wide open. It's sharper than the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 copy that I used to own, and it focuses closer too as an added bonus.

The power dual OIS is great with the GH5.
This takes an amazing footage/images and love it. If you are in the market for a great portrait lens, I highly suggest it. Not as great with video, but still worth it for portraits.

Limix 42.5mm f1.7
Really nice lens. Good for portraits and close up. With the high appature setting, it can produce a nice shallow depth of field effect. If you are planning to take a lot of portrait pictures, this is the one you will get. I had to return it because I find it a little to close of a focal length than what I need.

Very sharp and affordable. I recommend. Construction is not that sturdy, but you get what you pay for. I can not complain.
