Wow, is this wonderful
I just received this body. To add to my collection of full frame A bodies. 43 mp, is incredible. I can't imagine what 60+mp is like. This camera is so solid, my first flower photo is incredible. Can't wit to do modeling and wildlife, & everything in-between. I have lot's to learn, but first impressions!

Great Camera; mediocre software
Camera works very well. Major upgrade from the original 99. Beautiful pictures. Even in low light without flash; just a bit of noise, easily removed. Even my 20-year-old Minolta lens works well, with quick focus, although not all of the advanced focusing features are available. So most any A-mount lenses should work, making it possible to find used glass. Battery life is not nearly enough for the shooting capacity of even 64GB cards. You need sev... Show More

Benefits of mirrorless in a ergonomic body
For me the a99ii is the perfect combination of technologies. It combines many of the innovations of mirrorless cameras like the EVF, focus peaking, zebras, in body stabilization with classic A-mount features such as the larger body, fully articulating screen and traditional controls. I also see A-mount lenses as a great opportunity to find bargains as some of the top of the line lenses can be found for less then half of their list price and come very close to the performance of the newer, more expensive E-mount counterparts.

Love my A99II
Ive owned my A99II for a little over a year now and I love it. Simi-pro user with great aspirations to be more-pro. This camera is pro grade stuff and absolutely takes stunning pictures

Must Have DSLR for A Mount Shooters
This camera is capable of extreme detail and has outstanding color rendition. Highly reccomend to shoot with po grade lenses that are capable of resolving the detail in sensor capture. Personally I am using this camera for landscape and close up work. I shoot with camera mounted on tri pod for maximum quality and image enlargement. I have shot with A Mount gear for close to thirty years. The ergonomics are a plus too. A younger photographer might opt for E Mount camera and lenses. With a solid collection of A mount glass this camera is very satisfying. No reason to swith my system.

Ergonomics, AF speed, Awesome!
I rediscovered my interest in photography in '11 with an NEX-5N. Then in '15 I moved up to the A7 Mark II. I tried out all of my old manual lenses with it and started a huge collection. Recently, I sold all of it and I'm investing in a full range of quality glass for this A99 ii resolution monster! I love the ergonomics of this camera, it's so much more natural in my hand than the A7 series was. Although the A7R III has a few superior features I ... Show More

Sony's best translucent mirror camera so far
Good translucent mirror, full frame. So far I am pleased with my image quality. Not certain whether the DSLR format will survive the mirrorless craze.

Excellent; Lighting-fast autofocus
This is an excellent camera. The resolution of the sensor, high frame rate, and fast autofocus make it a great option for sports and wildlife shooting. The color, dynamic range, and general rendering of the sensor are very good, and the focus unit's tracking reliability and speed is much improved over the first a99. The menu system is still a bit clunky, and the battery life is not on par with a real DSLR with optical viewfinder (same with all mi... Show More

Yes, I would buy again for the 42MP and I have Sony lenses.
I am a long time Minolta, Konica-Minolta, and Sony camera user. I used to be a professional photographer (made a living at it). I have had Sony A700, A99v, KM7D, and several Minolta film cameras as well Olympus, Lumia (Panasonic), and Fuji digital cameras. This camera is excellent and I purchased it primarily for the 42MP raw file and because it has built in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and remote operation from a smartphone as well as ability to get GPS in... Best Sony A mount yet!
I have used the Minolta system since the XD-11. When Sony bought Minolta, I started with an A100, then a A550, and an A77. I was disappointed because none of those really performed like the old film days. It wasn't until I bought the A99 that I felt that I was getting the quality of photos that I had gotten from film. Now with the A99M2, I'm getting some of the best quality photos I have ever gotten. RAW editing in Photoshop is a breeze because t... Show More

Disappointing Upgrade
As a wildlife photographer, my use is very specific. I don't shoot portraits, I don't shoot sports, nothing on the street. I can understand that for those applications, this might be a great camera. For me, though its been a disappointment. I have two Sony A99 cameras, and came up from a Sony A77, so I have great lenses, including the unbelievable 500mm prime lens. For years I have been cranking out pictures of birds in flight and moving subjects... Show More

Love this camera
I read all of the reviews on many cameras. Part of the reason I bought this one is my Minolta lens. I am in love with this beast. That is what I call it The Beast. It is easy to learn and may have more than I have learned, but don't think so. The photos are so vivid, every detail shows. I am in love.

overheats
this has to be the disappointment of the decade. what was supposed to be their flagship camera over heats and shuts off after just a few minutes of use while filming in 4k. do not buy to shoot video. might be good for photos but who knows. the camera overheated and shut off.

The way an A7Rii could have been.
I decided to continue with sony camera's due to this camera. E-Mount ergonomics will never suit me until these smaller camera's can fit my hands properly. The A99ii is a highly worthwhile upgrade from the A77ii and is exactly what the A7Rii should be. It has all the speed and resolution needed to truly be the best all rounder currently made. For me it does everything some people need two camera's for. The lowlight performance was the main reason ... Show More

A dream camera
Initially, I was going to wait to write a review until I had thoroughly put this camera through its paces. But after 6 weeks of use, I'm writing now to tell the world this is a GREAT camera. I'm getting beautiful dynamic range and wonderful color subtleties, far, far better than my a77ii could produce, and I couldn't be happier. I don't have modern lenses, so can't comment on the new af system with 399 af points. But the camera does wonderful thi... Show More

DISAPPOINTING FUNCTIONALITY COMPARED TO A77M2
The A77M2 is a joy to use, unfortunately the A99M2 is not. They are very similar in layout and size, the main difference seems to be in the switch near the left side of the lens which on the 77 changes focusing method. As others have said the joystick is awful and the prime reason I sent mine back. In several other ways I also found the 77 easier to use, and I don't think that's just because I come from an A55 then A77 background. In addition it ... Show More

Im sure you have seen all the reviews, yes this camera is amazing! I dont think people talk about how amazing the low light capabilities are with this camera! I took it out last weekend at 2am and shot some amazing shots in and outside of the clubs and bars! 5 star rating in my book!

The Sony a99 II is a winner
While I only recently purchased the a99 II, I have already found it a great camera. I recently tested its continuous focus feature in continuous shooting mode in adverse lighting conditions and found it worked extremely well. It has taken me awhile to get used to the electronic viewfinder but it works fine and is most useful as a full frame camera. This is not a light weight camera in any sense of the term. LIGHTENING fast focus, but joystick difficult to use - making menu difficult to navigate. My old A77 had much easier joystick. Wish this had 5 mini buttons to replace 5-function joystick. Wish there was a built-in flash.
