Replaced my early 2011 MacBook Pro 15
First, B&H is wonderful. Paid approximately $500 less than waking down to the Apple store, the only option in my town. They shipped express and all is good. I really like the new machine although just getting used to it. Heard lots of complaints about the new keyboard but I love it. The larger touch pad will take getting used to. It is possible to skew your typing by getting on top of the larger pad. I can deal. Love the smaller footprint and lighter weight. The old MBP 15 w/backup machine really got old hauling around when on the road. Anyway, so far so good.

Lots to like
I purchased the MacBook Pro (Mid 2028) just after Christmas, so as of this review I havent had it all that long. The good news is that I was able pretty much without problem to transfer my data from my old MacBook Pro (Late 2013) to the new one using Time Machine--i had to purchase a dongle to attach to my TM hard drive to the new laptop. Great laptop
So far the machine works very well. Getting used to the large trackpad can be a bit frustrating, but otherwise all other features are great: keyboard is smooth, the Touch Bar is awesome (especially the fingerprint feature).

Fast as the dickens
Not only was I able to clone from my CCC backup to this new computer with CCCs clear and personal directions without issues, but 95% of the configurations were ported. The Security/Privacy System preferences were not preserved, but once I knew the issue on some of my 3rd party apps, it took just a few minutes to reconfigure. A Marvel and a Beast!
I was skeptical of the touch barbut quickly changed my opinion once I realized the functionality it provides when working in different apps! Youcan modify the functionality for the majority of apps. The USB-C ports are kind of a bummer because you need adapters for everything else; however, once you utilize the USB-C outlets to their full potential you realize what a powerful and future-proof this machine is! Powerful device
Six cores @2.6 have real power. Most notable change is the nvme SSD which move data fast as 3.2 gigabytes/sec as opposed to a classic SSDs 540 megabyte/sec. Memory speed doubled with the new DDR4 memory. I use it for development, mostly xcode, netbeans, windows 10 in parallels - all at the same time. No lagging - no hiccups - nothing. Raw power. I even was able to connect my 3 additional Monitors with a simple USB3 to displayport cable, and a small Totu dock for USB, 1GB network, keyboard and charger. No more desktop needed.

Finally Upgraded

Sleek, light and fast
Although it seems like I could put a downpayment on a house for what the higher end Apple Laptops cost, during the holidays B&H had a great deal on this MBP. My only question so far is that the fan seems to engage more often than I thought it would when I am working on a relatively low power activity, but I understand that the I9 chip runs hot because of the speed and it is not a huge distraction. This MBP is fast, photos and videos process quickly and it is light. I think the issues with the keyboard have also been resolved. So far I love it. You definitely get what you pay for!

Continuing Improvements to the MacBook Pro
This unit purchased to supplement a similar 4.5 year old MBP. Touch bar interesting and fingerprint unlocking is nice. Change from High Sierra to Mojave not particularly jarring and the migration process from the older MBP was relatively painless (actually did the migration from a Time Machine backup of the MBP) with the biggest hiccup getting the Parallels license migrated to the new machine, which was actually easy once I read the instructions ... If your not a full time hi-res photo editor
I am not using this computer to edit 4k footage on the regular. So I do not care much about over heating, thermal throttling or all the other things you hear about on YouTube. I use this laptop primarily to edit photos in light room and for research/school work as a grad student. I should note that for those two exact things this computer is overkill. People complain about the MacBooks because they cost quite a bit more than a similar-spec Windows notebook. But, Ive used Macs for 30 years (this is my fifteenth I think) because MacOS is so much better than Windows. The upfront cost is worth it over the life of the computer. Amazing device
Amazing device for your day 2 day work. Really loved the touch bar. Only complaint is that using SD cards with attachments is difficult. Removing card, pulls it the attachment too. While buying an attachment, look for one with a cable and not one that fits on MacBook directly
