I previously purchase the Sony FE 70-200 mm F4 and was told by another photography buddy, that I should have bought the Sony FE 700 mm F2.8 GM instead. I returned the F4 and pony up to the F2.8. My first shoot I didn't regret it.

My secret weapon.
This photo uploaded was shot hand held with this lens. About 6ft from the model. Natural light. ISO 125 zoom at 131mm, f2.8, 1/200sec. Eye AF used. I this closeup was taken from the portrait.

My Favorite lens
I absolutely love this focal range and very much missed having it when I made the switch from canon. I had to just bite the bullet and buy it. I can tell you I'm not disappointed with my choice! I have this lens along with the 24-70 GM it matches up perfectly. I hate to say it but if one puts their camera (in my case A7riii) into auto mode you will get "pro" quality images.

Sharpness & OSS !
This is top line 70-200 F2.8 among all big name brands. I was deciding between F4 & F2.8. F4 is lighter. For low light performance and compatibility with 1.4 tele converter, it is wise to get F2.8. DXOMark gives the definitive answer!

Incredible
Wow. It's amazing. Sharp and focuses fast. It is heavy, that's for sure. My purchase came with a clear/UV Hoya filter. It's terrible. Looks like there fine bubbles on one side of it. Probably the only disappointing thing about my purchase, which isn't even about the lens itself. If you can, buy it.

Overpriced, but performs well on the A7III
Im a long time Canon shooter who has owned both the EF 70-200 2.8L IS Ver I and II and shot them on a variety of bodies including the 1D3, 5D3, and 7D2. Needless to say my expectations for such an expensive 70-200 as the Sony were pretty high, but if youre going to be shooting sports with a Sony camera then its almost a requirement to have native mount lenses. Super lens. Images are razor sharp.
Switched from Canon to Sony last year. Just purchased 70-200 f/2.8, a fantastic lens that meets if not exceeds expectations. Much sharper than Canon 70-300 L lens. Shooting with AF with Sony A7R11 on a tripod, backyard bird images are razor sharp. Crisp, clear detail remains when I crop significantly using Lightroom. Impressive. Could not be happier.

So Sharp!
Rented this lens and immediately fell in love with it. I bought it and have used it for sports with no regrets. Amazing image quality and the focusing on my A7iii is phenomenal.

A Great Lens thats Unusually Heavy
This is a fantastic lens for portraiture, Wildlife, sports and even landscape in some instances. My tests have shown it to be sharp as a tack, and the sharpest Sony telephoto I own. I dont however possess Nikon or Canon 70-200mm, and havent yet tested it with the available Sony teleconverters. PROS: Sharp, bright, doesnt extend when zooming and maintains f2.8 minimum throughout its zoom range. Prodigious everythinglens. CONS: Heavy! If youre taking this to a game or on a wildlife shoot, bring your tripod or monopod.

Even better than expected!
Just used the Sony 70-200 Gmaster with the Sony A7RIII at a school play and the images are spectacular! Focusing worked fine even when things got darker. Yes, the lens is heavy but not a problem for me even though I am 73 years of age. This lens equals and maybe betters different prime lens I have had over the years. Hoping the lens remains trouble free for a long time.

Great lens but doesn't stand up against the newer Nikon
I have previously owned the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR. The Sony feels heavier, has a larger hood and has a hard time finding focus in lower light.

Amazing sharp lens
This lens is perfect for the A7R3 and A9 cameras. No need to buy this unless you went for these cameras. It is sharp, fast, great IS, and matches the 42MP of A7R3 perfectly.

Highly Recommended for Weddings
This lens will be exactly what you expect it to be. It's solid, practical to use, fast and high quality. I love the detail of the hood that lets you use Circular Polarizing Filters. It's excellent for weddings and sports. Because of its weight and size, not recommended for travelers. But that's obvious. Well done Sony again. Officially I don't regret switching to this brand :)

The Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM lens is an amazing piece of glass. I contemplated this decision for months. What's the best lens to get when I need a longer reach? Very happy with this lens
I paired this with my new A7RIII to shoot sports - the lens is a bit front heavy on this body so I needed to get the additional grip on the camera body to provide some stabilization when gripping this combo. Quick and sharp
Very happy with this purchase. It stands up well against the Canon or Nikon competition and the added benefit of a little closer focusing range is nice. I dont use the custom buttons on the lens and the lens hood looks weird being white. But performance of the glass is tops

Recently purchased this lens via a B&H used deal. It was rated as a "10" but I was a little concerned. Super fast shipping. To my suprise, this thing looked un-used and brand new :) I got the opportunity to use the lens on my A7RIII... all I can say is "wow" i'm very impressed. i'm a part time photographer. Love this Lens, but just Not Enough
The FE 70-200 f/2.8 GM OSS Lens is excellent glass, as the other reviews suggested. My experience with this lens was, however, short lived, because I returned it after two weeks of shooting on my Sony A7R III. The Sony FE 70-200 f/2.8 GM OSS is great. Build like a tank
Kind on the heavy side, good sharp glass in all stops. Its he only zoom in my kit as I shoot mainly with primes.
