Fast lens, heavy weight
Everything I need zoom and low light wise. But it is heavy. An ounce in the morning is a pound in the evening.

Well worth the price.
Have owned a few 70-200mm and equivalent lenses also including the Sony 70-200mm f/4. All great lenses, but this one is better than the ones I have owned. -Quick to focus. -Accurate focus. -Very, very sharp. -Out of focus areas are very pleasing to my eyes. -Great colors. -Well built. -Great ergonomics. Hesitated for a long while due to price, but now that I have it I do not regret the spend at all. My favorite lens.

Didn't Disappoint
Traded in my old Canon gear for Sony A7iii but kept the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8, using Metabones adapter. When turning on/off, the adapter mode sometimes switched causing delay. So, traded that in for a Sony f/2.8 GM. Read reviews about how the Canon was far better. So, had doubts about the Sony GM. However, when I switched, was not disappointed. Very satisfied with the sharpness and ability to bokeh wide open.

Sharpest, fastest focusing lov
Converting from Nikon full frame to Sony. Been into photography since the early 90s. Converted multiple film platforms, multiple digital, cropped to full frame on and on. A Sony A7III with this 70-200 f/2.8 with or without teleconverter is beyond compare to anything before. Weve all become accustomed to having a few photos in the bunch out of focus. That does not happen on the Sony Alpha platform. Game Changer!

I actually love this lens. so why only 4 stars?
Because it makes me cry myself to sleep at night. originally had the f4, and loved shooting with it. prior to shooting with the 70-200 i hadnt yet decided what my preferred focal length was. even with the f4 i loved the 70-200 range and compression. so why didnt i just keep the f4 and buy another lense with the money i would have saved (like the sigma 14-24 thats coming out soon...)? im not a smart man... actually... ill give the lens 5 stars... i give the lenses owner 2 stars.

Another excellent product from Sony.
The Sony 70-200mm GM f/2.8 fills so many needs in our photography. The lens is somewhat heavy but being for a full frame camera and with f/2.8 is expected. From time to time we photograph inside churches and this is the perfect lens for that. We use this on the Sony A7RIII. The images produced by this lens are astounding! As a side note: Thanks B&H for the ongoing excellent service!!

Great lens!
Switched from Canon to Sony about a year ago and gathering new lenses. This one is excellent and a must have from the GM collection.

It works if you must have f2.8
Pros: -Internal focusing like most 70-200 lenses = ease of work in the field/public places -Optical stabilization -Native lens means all Sony camera functions work -f/2.8 Cons: -Overpriced -Image quality is decent but not amazing For quite a while this was the only option for a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens on Sony E-mount. You could try the Canon or Nikon equivalents but had to risk the uncertainty of an adapter. Recently, Sigma came out with their 70-... Show More

Amazing!
Just spent the first weekend recording a scooter event with this lens. Very impressed with the auto focus while zoomed in & recording quick moving objects. A bit pricey, but am happy with the purchase so far. Well done, Sony!

Important addition
Tried using my comparable Nikon lens with vello adapter. Very limited. This new lens is outstanding. Better than I expected. Quality, rapid response - very accurate. Good decision.

Very smooth
Much nicer build quality than my Canon 70-200 f2.8 L ll lens. Sharp, handles well. I really like the focus buttons on the side of the lens. I am happy with this purchase.

This is a great lens. Feels great and the images produced by this lens are awesome. Nothing bad to say about it. If its in your budget just buy it.

Simply Awasome, super sharpness
I love this lens, i want the 2x teleconverter for more focal distance. This lens has an excellent quality, a very fast focus, an excellent stabilizer and excellent sharpness. The only cons is the weight, after 1 hour the arms begins to hurt haha, and its some big so its not easy to Carry on the Street, is very striking.

Toy lense?
Sony still has quality issues in 2019. Look at the frame, there is a circle.

Terrific Fast Zoom
The 70-200 GM is one big (and heavy lens). That being said, in comparison with other GM lenses, not so much. The images are really sharp and the focus capture and tracking is very smooth. This is actually a complicated lens and is probably the only one that I have actually read the directions to understand what the body controls are for. This is an expensive lens and not for penny pinchers, but the quality of the pictures is really worth the price.

You will NOT be disappointed
After using my canon 100 to 400 mm with sigma mc11 adapter Sony a 73 the focus simply wasnt fast enough, thought Id give the Sony 70 to 200 2.8 a try and am thoroughly satisfied with its performance. When using with my Sony alpha 73 camera with that particular canon lens it would hunt and breathe a lot but using Sony glass on a Sony camera is indescribable. Sony if youre listening would to have A 100 to 400 mm 2.8 from you as well

Get what you pay for
Ive been shooting Sony since the A7r came out and Ive owned several lenses (both GM and non). This is my first lens from Sony that is not a prime and I couldnt be happier! Super sharp images with great bokeh. If you read any reviews you know this lens is amazing. The real question if you are in the market is to get the f4 or jump up to the 2.8. For me, having the extra stop for lower light situations just made sense. I rented the f4 a few years a... Show More

Broke in less than one month
I was initially excited to receive this lens. I shoot weddings, and it was fast & sharp likethe Canon version (70-200 is ii). However, just after 3 weeks of shooting, it broke. No power at all & a tiny little noise. I looked on a FB forum & saw that two other people had the exact same problem. Thankfully, I the return to B&H went great - and I did replace it with another one, Im just more nervous & way less excited aboutthis lens now. If I didnt ... Show More

Moved from Canon 5DIII to Sony over a year ago with no regrets (though I have nothing bad to say about Canon's product line). Shooting with A7III at present and extremely happy with the camera. Purchased this lens mainly for shooting event photography and occasional portraits. Currently shooting in-stadium promotions at D1 football games. Reach of the lens is perfect for my needs. Doh! Freaking awesome!
Ok this lens is ridiculous. Seriously the price is high, but hey it's a professional grade lens. Low light performance, high speed action, detail, bokeh, all around so far has been just stunning. I'm in love with this. One downside is the weight, but hey good materials all the way around aren't light. I could see where the F4 version is not only cheaper, but lighter, and if I could have both I'd probably drag around the F4 for the lightness a bit... Show More

Overpriced.
Hunts for focus is low light, which is why you'd want this lens... Lower light. F2.8. it's heavy. I've shot a couple thousand images through this lens now because I really want to get to know it and I really want to like it- and while it's impressive when the AF nails it, (gripped A7R3) - the other GM lenses nail focus consistently where this $2600.00 lens is just a disappointment. Beat my expectations no doubt
I bought this lens primarily for sports photography but will be using for a little of everything. The sharpness is as sharp, if not sharper my sharpest prime, the sigma 16mm f2. The color is better than any of my lenses as well. If you're looking at this lens I dont need to expand on the AF.. but its FAST. And it doesnt lose my subject. The weight is a bit much but I personally dont mind. It feels durable as can be and seems well balanced as well. The layout works so well too, it fits comfortably in my hand. Worth the money.
