Best lens I have
I needed a wide zoom that was fast. B&H is the best place to do business with. This is the sharpest lens I have ever had. It is sharper than my 45 1.8 lens. Olympus PRO lens are the best made.

As expected, excellent!
I just got the lens and have started to put it throughout the paces on the EM1. It is tinge heavier because it is a solidly built lens and excellent for travel . I rolled both the camera and lens off a boulder and no issues. I always felt like a minority in being a fan of Olympus products, but this lens supports why...it's fast on the focus, my pictures look sharp, and i can drag it anywhere i want. Admittedly I haven't used the function button o... Show More

Great all purose lens
The first thing I noticed was the weight ... I tend to use either the Olympus 45mm 1.8 or the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 on my GH4 and GX7, so it was a bit of a shock putting on the 12-40mm. But I needed a zoom lens for video documentary and it was either this or the Panasonic 12-35mm. In the end I went for the Olympus. When you pull it back, the focus ring has hard stops and supports repeatable focus which I really need. Focus pulling on most m43 lenses... Show More

Great Lense
I appreciate this lense. I can shoot close to macro, then pan out for a wide shot and zoom in on animal or bird life without a lense change.

Great lens
Great quality lens. Got it on sale for $ off. Did on online chat with a guy from B & and the recommended this lens for my GH4. Very happy and the pictures and video are clean and sharp.

Simply Amazing
I'm a professional cinematographer/photographer so I bought a GH4 to have 4k footage and high res photographs. I used a handful of lenses before getting this lens, mft, canon L, sony G series and this is hands down the finest lens I have ever used. Lightning fast AF, beautiful bokeh, built like a tank, supremely sharp, awesome colors and is 24-80 f2.8 lens. You want to unleash the true beauty and power of the gh4, buy this lens. As long as I have a mft system I will never sell this lens.

Watch out for that manual focus clutch
I'm probably the only one that does this, but i didnt bother reading the manual and just stuck the lens on and started shooting. Imagine my horror when all of a sudden my camera refused to autofocus, at a photo shoot no less! I even returned the lens for repair! (My vision is not correctable to 20/20 so I have to rely on autofocus) Now I know about the autofocus clutch, which is easily moved accidently (wish there was a 'lock'), just be sure to check your results. Love the lens - next time I'll read the manual.

Excellent lens
I bought this lens in order to have s zoom that was weatherproof and a larger maximum aperture compared to the kit. I Bought this at the B&H retail store since I was in NYC. However the price tag hadeget out of line a couple of times. I am so glad I purchased this lens. It is rock solid, the manual focus overide is sweet, and it renders images beautifully. I will admit that it is not a small lens like I'm used to for m43. This lens is about the size of a DSLR kit lens, but heavier. I suggest you get this lens without trepidation because it is s real performer.

You can't avoid lens weight
I am an a photography enthusiast that learns the art by making poor pictures and finding out why. I own an Olympus OMD M10 with kit lenses for quality shooting and a Leica C for the camera you always have with you. In good light both work well. In low light, neither works well with long exposures and high ISO settings on a tripod that give fuzzy pictures at about 1/3 sec exposures. That is why I just invested $$$ for good glass. After about 50 pi... Show More

Versatile and High Quality
This is a great and versatile lens, with a few caveats. Most of the issues of note with this lens have less to do with the lens itself and more to do with the format itself. The Positives - Relatively fast constant aperture. - 24-80mm (35mm equivalent) focal length is versatile for daily use. - Construction is metal, durable, and well assembled. - Comes with a bayonet-mount petal hood. Hoods are not always a given with Olympus (shame on them). - ... Show More

Awesome lens
Great lens. Just used it quite a bit on a trip to Hawaii. Good for scenery as well as some pseudo macro shots.

Superb for most of your shooting needs
I use this as my main 'go to' lens for most 'everyday' situations. I shoot candid photography, portraits, street photography, and social settings. The results are sharp and bright. The lens responds quickly and has a very practical manual to auto focus 'quick snap' ring right on the body. It is made mostly of metal and has a very high quality build (hence the 'pro' designation). Weather sealing is great.

A must-have for the E-M1
I am so glad I spurged and bought this lens with my E-M1. In nearly 2 months, it has not been off the camera. This lens is easily as good or better than my Canon L glass. The lens is extremely well built and weather sealed (as is the E-M1). The zoom ring is buttery smooth, yet has enough drag that there's no chance of zoom creep. The focus ring is also smooth. Olympus has incorporated a clever and very convenient method of manual focus. just put t... Show More

Check Your Copy Carefully
Inconsistent auto focusing. Relatively reliable AF can only be achieved at 35mm. Sent my copy to service center for repair and did not see a whole not improvement. Manual focusing seems to be similar: it is hard to reach a perfect spot at 25mm and so on, but it is relatively easy to get in focus at 35mm manually. With such a price paid, I am very disappointed.

Awesome lens
I am an enthusiast and own the OMD EM 5 along with Nikon 610 and Pentax K3. The OMD EM 5 is my favorite for travel. This Lens is super fast, super sharp and super silent. Tough build and excellent quality. It sure deserves the Pro designation. I have the F2.8 Nikon Zooms and the F1.4 Nikon Primes...this Lens is not any less on quality. If anything it might be better on usability and functionality, be it the weather resistant aspect of it or the fraction of the weight compared to the full frames I own. Outside a studio, this one is the winner.

well built and versatile
I am not a camera expert but with this lens and my other Zuiko 75 mm, it accomodates most of my photography needs and I do not need to lug around a bunch of lenses. It matches well with my Olympus OM D5 and give me very good pictures.Frank C.11/19/14

Sharp as my
I was worried about switching to a mirrorless camera system, that, as a very picky, semi pro, I'd be disappointed with image quality. I am thrilled with the quality of this lens and matched with my OMD-EM1 it is a great package. Being weather sealed along with my camera, it was a joy shooting out in a light rain. The lens is light yet rock solid and feels good in my hands. The manual focusing is quite smooth and spot on. The 12-40 zoom is equivalent to a 24-80 FF zoom, perfect for my needs. I love this lens.

Great lens
Took the new lens out for a fall colors photoshoot in the Sierras. Fast focus excellent resolution and depth of field. Fast enough to shoot in low light including indoors. Quality feel. It was hard to justify the cost but I am so glad that I bought this lens.

What a wonderful lens
I purchased this lens with my new OMD EM1. The resulting image quality is fantastic, and that's coming from a Canon APS-C camera. It feels great, zoom and focus rings are a delight. Took some sunset shots recently, including one with the sun above the horizon. No flare! I am impressed.

One Lens Wedding
I used this lens and an EM1 body to shoot a wedding last weekend in Brooklyn. I carried a back up body and longer lens just in case but found myself able to shoot great portraits, group shots, indoor reception pictures and even several close ups of details all with one lens. The pictures are tack sharp and the brightness was a plus in a dim room.
