Fantastic audio quality!
This is my third Fiio player. I have a X1 gen 1 and a X5 gen 2. This player sounds as good if not better than my gen 2 X5. Build quality is fantastic, very sturdy and substantial feeling in the hand. I primarily use this at home and sometimes in bed while trying to fall asleep. Using it one handed is very intuitive. The volume knob is very positive with it's detents and the forward and back controls are positioned well. I use this with either... Show More

Very poor menu system and wifi
The instructions included with the device are very poorly written. The menu system is very difficult to use. Updates are difficult to download. I keep getting a network connection error and have to continuously restart. It supports SDXC cards. However the limit is 256 gb.

NICE Sound
I like the sound, the storage for 2 micro SD is great. Is lack and slow the Android system, I think it's for short memory. But otherwise the item is goog. The Service from Store B&H is great.

Not to my expectation
First of all, let me provide you with my audio background. I am an audiophile, a serious one if not considered crazy. A power cable of $10K is not uncommon. I am always skeptic about DAP, in fact CAS too. I decided to give myself a chance with a DAP just for fun. I know there are more expensive brands out there such as A&K, but I wanted to try an entry level (dont know if its considered as an entry level). Anyway, in terms of audio quality, its n... Show More

Best DAP for the money
Get this one for the Pure Audio setting which bypasses all the fluff and delivers the goods through a 32bit D/A converter. Best choice for the money for those serious about sound and value.

Android OS is very slow
Very disappointing OS. Further, menu organization is not well thought out; perhaps in a few more iterations/updates it will get better. If you just want a DAC that includes a Bluetooth output, this is not the FIIOS product to buy.

Good player for the money
I cant provide a grading comparing prior versions of this player, but I can say that this player has an accurate tonal balance, and decent features....response is a bit slow to commands, as others have noted, but works well enough to accept slow response. This player does not have ultimate resolution or speed, but it does not exacerbate bad recordings, or make good recordings sound bad. My reference player is a Questyle QP2-R, which has great tra... Great disappointment
When FIIO X5 works its sounds great w my FOCAL headset. However the software appears to be from an ancient flip phone era. The processing is slooow and inconsistent. Hooking up to my streaming service is just shy of a nightmare. Worst of all to get serviced requires shipping to China as there is no factory repair station in the US. Here, youre looking at roughly $80-$100 round-trip shipping charges, not counting customs if unlucky. FIIO has some ... Show More

Bought it for the Dac output to use on my achiit valhalla 2
This DAP is pretty good. I did alot of research and finally settled ok this fiio x5 3rd gen. I love evrtything about this except for the battery usage. It seems if i leave it unplugged in music mode, ok standby mode, it might last for a few days. Otherwise this is an excellent digital player. I paired it with schiit valhalla 2 tube amp and it sounds awesome with hi res musics. Overall i would give this 4.5/5 stars. If this dap has longer battery if given 5/5. Excellent dap for the price.

I would choose a different device if you are looking to replace your iPod
I purchased this device to replace my old ipod. The audio was good and the hardware build quality was good. That's basically all the good things I have about this device. For the bad stuff: -Battery life is awful -Built in app is awful and I can't even organize my Playlist the way I want to (only by alphabetical) -When I plugged it to my car it didn't work. It worked in another car, so I don't get what happened there. -Very laggy and UI is awful

Excellent with some caveats.
This is the third FiiO DAP I've owned. I have the X3, the X5 MKII and now the MKIII. I was selected by FiiO to preview the MKIII about a year ago. I ended up deciding not to write a review for them at the time, but now decided to buy my own. First, it is a great sounding DAP. Compared to the MKII it seems to have more depth to the sound. I have done AB tests with 192Khz/24bit FLAC files and some DSD files. Both are good, but the MKIII has better... Show More

Almost Perfect
This is my second DAP, beats Sony NW a35 by far. but Its a Little slow on adroid because 1gb of ram. I love it anduse with my EMU Teaks Headphones. You must buy a special cable to connect to an external AMP like Chord Mojo or Oppo Ha 2se

Has It All: Look, Feel, Accuracy, Soundstage
With this Fii0 X5 III, my search for a portable music player is over. I like the look and feel, and the musical accuracy and soundstage are superb. This is not a bass boomer. For me, there's plenty of punch in the bass. I can listen to this all day. One quirk is that my Windows 10 computers won't link with it unless Android is running on the X5. I like the way it allows for easy file handling of music. It appears as just another drive on my PC, s... Show More

X5 3d Gen needs to go back to the lab
I have a FiiO X5 first and now 3rd generation. 3rd Gen has a number of user interface and experiences glitches that make the unit much less impressive than the original. Hardware button placement is not well thought out and I find myself hitting the wrong button or having to contort how I hold the device to drive the UI. The software experience is simply not well executed - especially when compared to the original custom UX.

Fantastic Sound!
Love this player! If you enjoy and appreciate high quality music, this is for you. I had the original X5 and it sounded great, but was quirky and awkward to use. The 3rd Generation is touchscreen and very smooth. Put on some Hi-Res files, add a FiiO amp and some quality headphones, and the sound is amazing!

Awesome Dap!
The x5 gen 3 sounds phenomenal! I use it along with my fiio e12a amp because it produces a thicker sound. It gets loud enough with no distortion to blow out your ear holes lol. I stream spotify with this device and am loving the sound even though it is not lossless. I also have some lossless files on it and it will blow you away. Battery life seems quite good and am satisfied with the time between charges. It also charges extremely fast. I have h... Show More

Very Good
I do not give them 5 stars because I can not use it to stream my music via wifi to my Sonos system and because transferring my playlist is not that easy. Beyond that, I Like my Fiio 5x3gen very much

So far so - great!
My first foray in the high resolution player. After many days of research, it came down to two. The AK 300 and FIIO X5 (gen 3). At the end of the day, they are very similar, as I had the chance to play with both. Maybe the price of the FIIO made my decision easier (cheaper) but they perform what they need to do - play music in high resolution! Overall a very nice product. If I had one tiny complaint is that you really need to figure some things out yourself because the directions are not as clear as the should be.

Great Product; Instructions Critical Omission
Excellent quality sound; high storage capacity; good build quality and convenient controls. Highly recommend it!
Well-constructed, with fantastic sound. This was my replacement for my old iPod classic, and there is simply no comparing the sonic quality. The X5 3rd gen is so much superior. It even makes the same MP3s sound better, but I'm loading mine up with flac and cue files on 200gb cards.

I would buy the next new X5 if it fits my musics.
I pulled a trigger for the X5 III because I have owned the original one. This is a very musical DAP but not lack of details and bass compared to Onkyo DP-X1 I owe which has more body on balanced but not as smooth as the X5 III. It is matched pretty well with IE800 on SE and Shure SE535 balanced 2.5mm.

If I have a chance to buy I would go with the Magic Pro
The DJI standard 3 was on sale during the holidays so I just grabbed it with a good deal (extra battery for less money). This a basic one but camera is okay because I do not need 4K camera and it fits my need and budget too. Excellent product for beginner.
