FiiO X5 (2nd Gen) Portable High-Resolution Audio Player (Gold)
MPN's:
A rock-solid device with the same weakness as the old bro
I bought this because the power button on my old FiiO X5 1st generation broke after 1 year of extensive usage. Kudos to FiiO support for sending me the replacement part (2) with next to nothing charge! However, no mobile phone repair shop in Toronto is willing to repair it.... Now, the new device has the very same weak spot - this button is used to power on/off as well as to put the screen to sleep. No way to avoid overuse! Moreover, it is on the... Show More

Really nice lossless player with good battery time
Really nice lossless player with good battery time, bought this old version because it has no Android on board. Use with SanDisk 256GB Ultra Memory Card in 1st slot + Shure 215 headphones.

Worth every penny
I love it. I'm hearing details I haven't heard in years...if I ever heard them at all. It's easy to navigate and if you can't fit enough music on 256 gigs to satiate your needs, well, ok. We'll see how it does in terms of longevity, but I couldn't be happier with it at this point.

A nice little unit
So far I like everything about it, but.........I've only had it for a couple of weeks. We'll see how long it holds up. How ever it does seem to be a solid little unit. The sound using Apple lossless through my home system rather closely matches a rather nice Cambridge Audio CD player. (Using the USB digital output and Wolfsen DACs. Through my car stereo and the built in DACs sound quality is fine.)

Fiio makes the perfect players
Great design and flawless reproduction. I appreciate the seperate Line and Heaphone outputs, and the 2 high-capacity memory slots. Heavy, solid. The only drawback is it requires to be manually shut off; and the sleep mode can really run down the battery. Also lacks the silicone sleeve of the X1 model

Great promise unfulfilled
The sound is very good - though no better than my vintage iPods (before they changed to cheaper sound chips). However, the user interface is pretty poor, the text is very small, and, most of all, battery life is terrible whether you use it or just have it sitting around, off.

Excellent DAP and even better Price
I was able to purchase the FIIO X5 2nd Gen DAP for a great price at B&H. It arrived the next day! Works like a charm. Audio quality is excellent with both MP3 files and FLAC files. Paired up with Klipsch X6i in ear phones the sound is great. I haven't pushed the battery life yet, but expecting about 10 hours.

Terrible (and terribly slow) interface
If you're looking for a non-intuitive, frustratingly slow music player, then look no further. While it plays fine (and probably better than just fine), it is the least user-friendly, least reliable, buggiest piece of consumer tech I've encountered in quite some time. It's clearly not coming from the U.S. or an English-speaking development environment, and they have no idea what they are doing in terms of terminology, folder structure, etc. I wish I had returned this earlier... now it's past the time to do so. Save yourself money, frustration and all the rest. Stay away from this.

Excellent digital music player.
This is a fantastic digital music player. The sound quality is crystal clear, it has a fairly powerful built in amp too. Its so easy to use I didnt need the instructions for basic usage. And with dual mini disk slots supporting up to 128 gig cards each, you will have plenty of storage for your entire collection of MP3's etc. If you dont need a video player and just want a solid, clean sounding, powerful music player for a decent price, this is it.

X5 GenII Initial Impression
I picked up this unit a couple of weeks ago for a great price. The third gen is coming out so there will great deals on this unit. Of course the price will go way up the third gen beyond what I would spend on a player. Right now I'm taking it to the gym. I have been re-ripping cd's the have been sitting on a shelf for years, which is great. There are reports of the player being slow finding songs. Right now where I am with it, it is lightning fas... A Dedicated Music Player for Studio Recording.
I use this to sample and play back my studio recordings. It's a great device for high resolution studio tracks. Unlike studio monitors which are really flat, the X5 II has some sound enhancements that bring out a wide dynamic frequency range when paired up with some good headphones or ear monitors. Very clear and articulate sound, even at low volumes. The line out feature is great for the Car Audio auxiliary input. It has enough power to drive th... Show More

Fiio X5 (2nd Gen) Portable High-Resolution Audio Player
The player sounds good but I'm very disappointed in the battery life. The battery drains even when the unit is off. Over several days, I've only got about an hour of listening time, even though I power the unit off when I am not listening. My X1 got much better battery life.

Not perfect, but sounds incredible
This is not a perfect device, but the sound quality is excellent. Worth the money, no regrets.

So far so good !
Pleased with the sound of this in combo with my Fiio amp mated to it. Driving all my head and ear phones well if not staggering high levels which I'm well past. Clear signal is great and still trying to learn the controls and all the functions but as I say So Far So Good !

Very good sound quality, but...
I paid full price for a new player and received a used one with missing adapter. I got $75 refund after calling the customer service a few times and escalating the issue to the manager. The player has a very good sound quality interms of dynamic and details, and an okay user interface. The wheel and centre button are kind of loose. In general, the player feels solid and well build. If I got a brand new one, I would give it 4 stars.

FiiO plays all types of HD Audio files in native format.
Awesome DAP (Digital audio player) and I say that having owned and tested over six different models. Well any HD player is great, if it works, and FiiO players work quite well. Biggest plus is that FiiO players will play the higher resolution FLAC files (like 196KHz-24bit) and even DSD / ISO files which make up maybe half of my library. Many will not play these at all, or downsample to play them, meaning you lose the point of having high res in t... Show More

Great DAP
Great player. You will need some lossless music, good headphones, good sd card, and some organization to get the best from this product.

I would buy again
For the money, a very good music player. I have used it with my Bose 2.5, shure SR840, and Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones and am very happy with the performance. Also own AK Jr. Different character with same headphones but both are good.

Christmas is just around the corner
The sound is strong with this Hi-Res player. It will make an MP3 sound 100x better. I was listening to David Bowie's 'Black Star' from HDtracks 24/96. The bass is strong without stepping on the mid range or high range. The same thing with Radiohead's 'A Moon Shaped Pool' HDtracks 24/48.

Certain things need upgrading
I bought it with me thinking that this product would be a really good product. The main problem is when I installed the chip, it locks it in place but if you remove it and install the chip again, it will not lock in place. I have to use tape to make sure it stays in place otherwise every time you re-insert the chip the contents has to reload. You do have to update the firmware to be able to control the volume in the ear buds like it is suppose to
