It is big for a little (thing)

Apr 1, 2015

I use this 24-240 on the Sony a6000 camera. Compared to the camera it is a large lens and somewhat weighty. I like to do street photography, and try not to be noticed. It is a little harder with this lens, but it does give me a lot of versatility. Overall I'm very happy with the lens, images are very sharp. I have not done the full test on the lens yet, but other than having more weight then what I would like I'm very satisfied with it.

Quite a Monster

Apr 1, 2015

Well, I was one of the first of the public to receive this lens. I read many reviews before buying this one. I knew it was heavy, and I knew it was large. But the idea of having lens puts such a wide range of focal length in my bag was very tempting. I took off my Zeiss 24-70 and attached the 24-240 zoom. And it was a little bit unnerving as to the size and weight. But then I started shooting with it with the fast shutter speeds without a tripod ... Show More

No lens case!

Apr 1, 2015

I love the lens, and the other reviewers point out it's strengths, so I won't add anything here. But they didn't include a lens case - probably the first Sony lens I bought that didn't. How cheap can they be!

Great All-in-one lens

Mar 31, 2015

This is the 3rd lens I have for my A7ii. My other two are the Sony FE 16-35mm and Zeiss Loxia 50mm prime. This lens is great when you want to pack less and commit to one lens on an excursion. It allows you to get up close to subjects, or if something is out of range, your still able to crop and get good images. What's most awesome about this lens is when your at full zoom it still stays sharp thanks to the built-in stabilization the camera and lens provide.

Very good multifunction lens

Mar 30, 2015

I have used the lens for a little bit on my Sony A7ii and I am an experienced amateur photographer. First of all it is MUCH better then the 18-200 Tamron E-mount for 4/3 sensors. The focus is very fast but it needs to be in the P mode to get this. I typically use center spot to focus and light meter then recompose the image. The range, of course, is excellent. My only complaint is the very mild softness at some of the images, however, I was shoot... Show More

High quality with incredible zoom range

Mar 26, 2015

While these long zoom lenses are certainly not targeted towards professionals, I was impressed with this len's build quality. The FE 24-240 is much more solid and heavy than you would expect for the target demographic, and that might explain the higher than normal price. I think Sony hit the target here for a prosumer travel zoom. Photo quality at both ends is also higher than would be expected of a lens with such a range. Vignetting at 24mm is o... Show More

Not so bad for a superzoom

Mar 26, 2015

So before I get into my review of this lens and my experience so far I would say a few things. 1) This is not a prime lens and if your expectation is to get the quality of let's say the 55 f/1.8 Zeiss then you will be disappointed. 2) This is not a fast zoom with a constant aperture and is more suited to better lighting conditions. 3) This is a super zoom so it is like a Jack of all trades, master of none. 4) It is a FULL FRAME lens with in lens ... Finally a good lens from Sony

Mar 26, 2015

I bought this lens with my Sony A7 II for lighter. I did the test and it was so good as my D800 with 28-300mm lens.

Don't Listen To The Experts

Mar 26, 2015

It does just what I wanted and need. I wander around places: the woods on Lopez island, the streets of Paris, the shores of lake Washington (for example) and I want one lens that lets me gets panoramas or cormorants sitting on the pilings in the police mooring at Pont Austerlich, or the parrots up in the denuded Novemebr chestnut trees in Parc Monsourris. The tightness of the zoom ring is a great design advantage: I had the predecessor lens on a ... Show More

So far, so good!

Mar 26, 2015

I bought my Sony A7 last year, and have been holding off on buying a new lens until they came out with a bigger native selection. This was exactly the lens I was hoping for. As a hobbyist, I was looking for a good all-around lens I can put on my camera and leave there for most situations. Sure, I still want a fast prime. But I can see this will be my go-to multi-purpose lens I've only taken it out a few times so far - a sunny mid-day hike in the ... Show More

Sony FE 24 240 mm walk around lens

Mar 25, 2015

I really like the newest Sony Lens 24-240 released on March 15, 2015. My initial shots with the lens are sharp, covering a range that will be perfect for my trip to Australia. I plan to pack this lens and the 35 lens as the two choice to travel with. The 24- 240 lens would be my first choice to purchase with the Sony A7II for a hobby photographer like myself. It's nice travel lens

Great reach with a small lens.

Mar 25, 2015

I am trying to switch from Nikon Pro system to the Sony full frame cameras and lenses in order to reduce the weight while traveling. This is a great lens for that and performance is very good.

Not as good as I had hoped

Mar 22, 2015

Don't get me wrong: this lens has good optics and sharpness, even at maximum telephoto. But... It's quite heavy, about as heavy as the Tamron 28-300 I use with my Canon 5DIII. I bought the Sony A7 because it was so light, but this lens negates that weight advantage. Also, don't be mislead by the description on this website that says the lens does not extend during focusing. While that's correct, the lens definitely extends while zooming. Although... Show More

Worth it

Mar 12, 2015

I attached it to my A7S and compared with FE 16-35, 28-70 lens. It surprise me the image quality from 24mm to 70mm are nearly as good as those two lens. Over 100mm the aperture draw down to F6.3 and limited it's use inside buildings, but with A7S iso12800 solve part of this problem. 240mm image is soft, but for convenience, that's acceptable.
