Wow! The best out there!

Feb 1, 2017

Well, let me start by saying I've started my professional photography venture with the Sony A65, then the A77ii and now the a99ii. I've tried, studied and compared more cameras than I even want to mention, so with that being said, I'm not one of those Sony drum beaters whose going to put down Canon or Nikon. To me its very simple..........the Sony a99ii just fit me more comfortably in terms of ergonomics, specs I wanted and the internal workings,... Show More

Disappointing Upgrade

Jul 17, 2017

As a wildlife photographer, my use is very specific. I don't shoot portraits, I don't shoot sports, nothing on the street. I can understand that for those applications, this might be a great camera. For me, though its been a disappointment. I have two Sony A99 cameras, and came up from a Sony A77, so I have great lenses, including the unbelievable 500mm prime lens. For years I have been cranking out pictures of birds in flight and moving subjects... Show More

Excellent!

Jan 8, 2017

I received my a99ii in early December and have been shooting with it since then. The main things I wanted in the a99ii was better low light performance, better AF performance and more coverage from the AF points. The a99ii has exceeded my expectation in these areas as well as nearly every other I could come up with. In low light I find I can shoot easily at 6400iso and even 12800 is quite usable. The AF performance is improved and the frame cover... Show More

Excellent upgrade

I've been using Minolta/Sony gear for around 30 years now. The new A99 II looks to be their best body in the old Minolta Maxxum mount. I bought it to use mostly for landscapes, architecture, anything that holds still. So far very impressed with it for these applications. Excellent resolution, nice colors, etc. Easy to learn for anyone familiar with Sony's A mount SLRs. The AF is very accurate and locks on very quickly - it still surprises me how ... Show More

Blazing speed meets epic detail a godsend for sports work!

Dec 8, 2016

My Sony A99 II's arrived & my first assignment: documenting athletes in a grueling 50-mile trail race for a major global sports brand. After being told the race start would be well lit, I arrived at 4 AM to almost no lighting. Only one generator-powered floodlight lit the race start, but it was positioned over the porta-potties in the distance. Consequently, the start line was dim & the surrounding terrain hid under a blanket of pitch black darkn... Show More

Great for photo but NOT usable as a 4K video camera

Dec 16, 2016

I love this camera for photography. I've had great success shooting live event in low light. Auto Focus works great and even at higher ISOs the image is easily cleaned up. The Full frame sensor with more Megapixels allows more flexibility when cropping and getting more out of each picture. This camera is loaded with great features and programmable shortcuts and custom buttons. The autofocus is fast and images are sharp. The Image Stabilization is... Show More

Yes, I would buy again for the 42MP and I have Sony lenses.

Jul 28, 2017

I am a long time Minolta, Konica-Minolta, and Sony camera user. I used to be a professional photographer (made a living at it). I have had Sony A700, A99v, KM7D, and several Minolta film cameras as well Olympus, Lumia (Panasonic), and Fuji digital cameras. This camera is excellent and I purchased it primarily for the 42MP raw file and because it has built in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and remote operation from a smartphone as well as ability to get GPS in... This is the best camera Sony has ever produced.

Jan 20, 2017

My new camera was delivered on December 28, 2016. I have been totally impressed. I currently own two A99 cameras and one A77M2 in addition to the A99M2. I am a birding photographer and use the Sony 500mm f/4 and 300mm f/2.8 lenses. The A77M2 and the A99M2 are physically and functionally very similar. The A99M2 has a header on each menu page that categorizes the items on that page. I find this helpful. The function menu allows you to select your m... Show More

Great Camera; mediocre software

Sep 5, 2019

Camera works very well. Major upgrade from the original 99. Beautiful pictures. Even in low light without flash; just a bit of noise, easily removed. Even my 20-year-old Minolta lens works well, with quick focus, although not all of the advanced focusing features are available. So most any A-mount lenses should work, making it possible to find used glass. Battery life is not nearly enough for the shooting capacity of even 64GB cards. You need sev... Show More

i am really happy with my purchase , i own sony a77's and was waiting for this big update i was more concerned with speed of shooting (up to 54 burst photos in a row !!!) i was excited about a higher iso capability ( i however have not seen a difference in shooting in higher iso's with less noise, but it could just be me) i am disappointed in some of button choices (having to press down a button to rotate the camera modes, were people really maki... A dream camera

Jun 20, 2017

Initially, I was going to wait to write a review until I had thoroughly put this camera through its paces. But after 6 weeks of use, I'm writing now to tell the world this is a GREAT camera. I'm getting beautiful dynamic range and wonderful color subtleties, far, far better than my a77ii could produce, and I couldn't be happier. I don't have modern lenses, so can't comment on the new af system with 399 af points. But the camera does wonderful thi... Show More

DISAPPOINTING FUNCTIONALITY COMPARED TO A77M2

May 23, 2017

The A77M2 is a joy to use, unfortunately the A99M2 is not. They are very similar in layout and size, the main difference seems to be in the switch near the left side of the lens which on the 77 changes focusing method. As others have said the joystick is awful and the prime reason I sent mine back. In several other ways I also found the 77 easier to use, and I don't think that's just because I come from an A55 then A77 background. In addition it ... Show More

A Must for Wildlife Photography

Jan 3, 2017

Any new camera is the greatest camera ever according to the manufacturer and the reviews it sponsors. Sony did a nice job with the A 77 ii. It's a decent mid- range camera but, lacked a couple of attributes: it's autofocus was a little slow and it's low light performance was below average. I was a little skeptical about the A 99 II claims. Not any more. My litmus test for wildlife shooting is flying eagles. The autofocus on this thing is absolute... Show More

Excellent; Lighting-fast autofocus

Aug 8, 2017

This is an excellent camera. The resolution of the sensor, high frame rate, and fast autofocus make it a great option for sports and wildlife shooting. The color, dynamic range, and general rendering of the sensor are very good, and the focus unit's tracking reliability and speed is much improved over the first a99. The menu system is still a bit clunky, and the battery life is not on par with a real DSLR with optical viewfinder (same with all mi... Show More

Still too early to tell

Dec 30, 2016

I recently received an early Xmas present when my Sony A99M2 arrived. I am still in the process of digesting the user guide. My first perceptions - I really like that I can use my old minolta and alpha glass. AF works beautifully so far. However, per the guide if you use a third party lens, there are many more steps now - you must select Steadyshot to manual and according to the focal-length set using SteadyS. Focal Len. I haven't tried both yet ... Show More

The way an A7Rii could have been.

Jun 22, 2017

I decided to continue with sony camera's due to this camera. E-Mount ergonomics will never suit me until these smaller camera's can fit my hands properly. The A99ii is a highly worthwhile upgrade from the A77ii and is exactly what the A7Rii should be. It has all the speed and resolution needed to truly be the best all rounder currently made. For me it does everything some people need two camera's for. The lowlight performance was the main reason ... Show More

Best Sony A mount yet!

Jul 27, 2017

I have used the Minolta system since the XD-11. When Sony bought Minolta, I started with an A100, then a A550, and an A77. I was disappointed because none of those really performed like the old film days. It wasn't until I bought the A99 that I felt that I was getting the quality of photos that I had gotten from film. Now with the A99M2, I'm getting some of the best quality photos I have ever gotten. RAW editing in Photoshop is a breeze because t... Show More

I rediscovered my interest in photography in '11 with an NEX-5N. Then in '15 I moved up to the A7 Mark II. I tried out all of my old manual lenses with it and started a huge collection. Recently, I sold all of it and I'm investing in a full range of quality glass for this A99 ii resolution monster! What Sony did wrong.

Jan 18, 2017

The camera is an electronic marvel. The three problems with the camera are 1. Joystick control is imprecise and hard to use. 2. the trigger button it too sensitive and hard to find the half press causing the camera to release the shutter when all you want is to prefocus. 3. The camera with the vertical grip and 24-70 Zeiss lens weighs a ton. I still like it but a lot of owners do not and some have asked to return it and have their purchase price ... Show More
