I purchased this camera when my previous medium sized point and shoot was failing. We take lots of family pictures as well as trip photos, as well as misc. photos. I also enjoy taking small videos. A sophisticated point-and-shoot camera
I am a very casual user of cameras. My last one was a Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS-7 and because I have been pleased with it, after looking at several other brands, I came back to Panasonic. Perfect combination of features
I ordered the ZS50 as a pocket camera I could put in my fanny pack any time I am out and about. I own several Panasonic mirrorless cameras, but often I'll have on a short lens or a long lens, which will limit how distant or close my shots can be. Very happy with the ZS50
I had the ZS40 and, for me, this is a useful upgrade, including the much higher resolution EVF, automatic EVF/LCD switching, better grip on the front and a time lapse mode. The ZS50 drops the GPS of the ZS40, though, if that is important to you. This is a very nice small sensor, long zoom, compact camera with an EVF. You have to be realistic though. Beware of what isn't obvious...
At first glance this camera looks like a near perfect sub-compact. And in may respects it is. But for the intended audience, mostly Jpeg shooters, know that you cannot adjust sharpness, contrast, saturation, or noise reduction in camera. You can select many different color profiles, but you don't have control of those parameters.
