I would think again about buying.

Dec 29, 2016

The DMC-ZS50 Lumix is a great little camera for travel or every day personal use. The images are sharp and the zoom is good except I would not use full zoom without a tripod to steady the shot. Biggest drawback is the flash. When taking the shot, your finger tends to cover the flash. You must be careful not to block the flash with your middle finger. This makes it hard to steady the camera. I have not used the video yet so no report.

Very Nice Point and Shoot

Dec 29, 2016

This camera replaced my Canon Elph Powershot that I had used for several years. This Panasonic was an improvement over the older Canon in that the Pan P&S has a viewfinder as well as a view screen...the Canon had no viewfinder. And the Lumix uses a full size SD card to store images while the Canon used a Micro SD card requiring an adapter to view images on a computer...the Lumix is more convenient but you pay for that larger SD card convenience i... Good little camera

Dec 28, 2016

Purchased this as a refurbished item. Must say I am pleasantly surprised. The zoom range is amazing for such a small camera. Due to the necessary small sensor the image quality is not terrific but usable. The build quality and overall feel is not equal to my other Lumix cameras, GH3, LX100, GX85 but is not bad for the price point. Great for casual trips to zoo, park, etc rather than hauling DSLR with 150-600 lens. Within its category it would be a 5 star.

It's the wife's rating not mine, mine would be the same!

Dec 25, 2016

I purchased this as a refurbished product to give as a Christmas gift to my wife. I checked it out and shot a number of test shots prior to Christmas and it worked just fine for me. My wife is literally the definition of a point and shoot photographer but she was pleased with the pictures and videos she made of me and our dog playing in our yard. I'll try to convince her to fiddle with the camera a bit and explore the options it provides but for ... Show More

It's great, but good luck figuring out the wifi

Dec 15, 2016

I'd give this camera five stars because it's awesome, but the Lumix customer service is horrific. Figuring out how to connect the camera to your online apps is incredibly difficult. You're supposed to join the Lumix Club, which seems more shrouded than the Illuminati. After an hour of trying to find some customer service contact info, you'll be rewarded with a snotty reply email stating that's not the kind of support they provide. In short, buy this camera because it's awesome, but beware: you're on your own to figure it out.

GREAT little camera

Dec 15, 2016

I've had the ZS50 for about a year and a half, and I can't say enough about how great this little camera is. The picture quality is fantastic, it is packed with features, and after being spoiled by the 24-720mm zoom on the ZS50, I find my Nikon with a 300mm lens lacking... :) The camera has gone many places around the world with me, and has held up well to ordinary travel abuse. Highly recommended little gem of a camera!!

Great performance in low light with just a few negatives

Dec 6, 2016

Take some great pics. Much better than many other in low light because it combines multiple pics into one. Zoom works very good. Controls are a bit to easy to change so you need to be careful that you didn't change by accident. Unfortunately the case looks good it feels cheap, just too much light weight plastic.

I would definitely by this camera again.

Nov 17, 2016

This is a beautiful advanced compact camera, and because of the Leica lens it takes great photographs, and well as has a great zoom. My initial plan was to take my Nikon DSLR on my adventure tour to India, but have decided that it is to heavy, so I will take my ZS50 because it is light (but has a solid feel in your hand), and especially since it shoots Raw and JPEG. I am pleased with my purchase.

Although it pays scant respect to modern high-tech appearances, this camera has great optics and many semi-professional features. It is also easy to carry!

okay camera

camera was used on a trip. the battery life is extremely short. It is a nice camera for point and shot. the more the zoom is used the quicker the battery goes down. Battery is charged while in the camera so difficult to charge additional batteries while using the camera.

Excelent travel camera

Oct 10, 2016

This is a wonderful travel camera. I did a 2 weeks travel vacations to Germany with it without any problem. I was impressed with its Zoom capabilities. My only convern was having the video start/stop button too close to the power off/on button.

LCD Failed two days after receiving camera

Sep 29, 2016

Received the camera on a Thursday, checked it out, charged the battery and everything seemed great with it. Two days later at a special event I took it out to take some photos and the LCD had failed. It had splotches and streaks in it and was unusable. I could still use the viewfinder but the LCD was unusable for setup and menu items. The camera had not been dropped or mishandled in any way. All of my previous point and shoot cameras had been Sony products. I thought I'd try something different this time. What a mistake!

One Amateur's Opinion of the DMC-ZS50 Camera

Sep 12, 2016

I am mainly a point and shoot photographer. So I mostly use the Intelligent Auto mode to take pix. The mode selector knob on top has 10 settings. I have tried out IA, Panorama, and Scene so far. I have worked my way through the many menus. I tried out IA+. I tried out taking motion pix. I tried taking pix in various situations - backlighted, through a window glass, indoors, outdoors. Zoom works good. I like the ability to use either the rear dial... Show More

I would buy this camera again

Sep 4, 2016

This camera had all the features I required and the price was reasonable. First requirement was a viewfinder. If you've ever tried to use a camera of this type w/o a viewfinder outdoors on a sunny day, you will know what I mean. The viewfinder is located in a slightly awkward place which is one of the reasons I dinged the rating. The main reason I dinged the camera is because of the manual and the lack of useful content. In the end, I quit using the manual and I just go on line to find information about finding and using features of the camera.

Good and not so good...

Aug 16, 2016

The lens cover keeps jamming, and needs tapping carefully to open. My DMC LX5 takes much better close up photos, so I take both with me, one for close ups and one for the ZS50's wonderful zoom.

Fantastic Pics

Aug 15, 2016

I own a DSLR and because of its bulk found myself carrying it less and less on outdoor adventures. Consequently I missed many great photo ops. So I started looking for a small camera, big zoom, that would take decent looking photos outdoors. I have not been satisfied with the quality and zoom from my smartphone. After a lot of research I found the ZS50. What attracted me was the aforementioned zoom, lower megapixel count, RAW support, and the ran... Show More

Everything I need in a lightweight compact size.

Aug 8, 2016

Have only had a few weeks and only taken photos on the iauto setting but all photos have had proper exposure and color. Half the size and weight of my previous camera with more than twice the zoom and one and a half times the MPs. This is the perfect size for my hiking and backpacking. It is harder to hold this compact camera and you must be careful not to block the flash.

Great camera!

Aug 4, 2016

Only cons is that the software is laggy sometimes and and battery dies pretty quickly especially when shooting videos.. Overall a great travel camera. Quality of photos and videos is excellent when you have a good source of light. Tends to struggle in low light tho.

Good but not without flaws

Jul 23, 2016

From the standpoint of a novice photographer, this is a nice travel camera with a powerful zoom feature. The number of pre-set options for taking photos in certain conditions was helpful, and the wireless connectivity feature is fun but a bit slow to use. Overall photo quality seems good for a camera this size. The main drawback of the camera is that the lens extends out quite a bit (required for zoom), but the mechanism for this extension seems ... I would recommend purchase of this item to a friend

Jul 18, 2016

I have owned several Lumix models over the past 5 years. They have all served me well, the DMC-0ZS50 has a 30X zoom lens, with a view-finder to aid in stabilization when zooming in on a distant subject, or when trying to take a photo on a very sunny day. That feature is extremely unusual in a camera that will fit into my jacket or even my pants pocket. I have been very satisfied with the camera to date.

Jul 13, 2016

This isn't really a fair review. I've only had it a couple of days, but some things popped out right away. I've had a series of Panny pocket cameras, most recently the ZS 30, and loved them, so I don't have any prejudice. 1. Panasonic instructions may be the most indecipherable in the industry.
