Can't figure it out yet

Oct 15, 2015

We bought this for run-n-gun documentary shooting. Plan was to get two more DVX200's. Probably because it is new there is ZERO support available from Panasonic. In 2 weeks of testing I don't have more than about 1 minute of video that I would consider good enough to deliver. I was hoping this camera would be a more developed (and 4K) version of the Sony PXW-EX series. NO WAY. Using CINE-LIKE D Gamma and CINE-LIKE Matrix I'm getting scenes that st... Show More

My New Main Camera

Feb 15, 2016

We were using a Canon XF-300 as our ENG camera for our small TV station on the west coast. We use a Canon C300 for our beauty shots and we had a Blackmagic Ursa Mini on order for almost a year. After losing yet another batch of shots to the XF's moodiness, I decided it was time to replace it. Saw this camera, specs looked good, so I gave it a chance. To say that I am impressed is an understatement. After using it every day for two weeks all I can... Show More

I was long overdue to update my starter camera an HMC150. Not being an early adapter I waited a while for the beta testers (early buyers) to sort things out. I did have to update the firmware on my first purchase and it was both effortless and painless. I had no problems with the menus being quite familiar with the Panasonic feel. Having a GH4 had preexposed me to many of the features. But there were a few new things, some of which I am wrapped a... Show More

Great potential but horrible results

Jun 24, 2018

Although I have purchased many items over the past 20 years from B&H, I bought this camera from my dealer in India. However, I thought I would review it here for the benefit of others. I'm a professional cameraman with over three decades of imaging experience, and have owned and used many cameras. I was excited about this camera, and bought it after reading many positive reviews. To make sure I was using it right, I read Barry Green's excellent g... Show More

Just What I Have Been Waiting For !

Received the Panasonic AG DVX200 camcorder last week as I had one on pre order for over a month. I plan to use the DVX200 for a wide area of recording purposes. This will be my work horse and hopefully my first of three units where I can record long events or documentaries requiring multicam production. After extensive research and other manufacturers model comparasion i made my prucahse decision on the Panasonic AG DVX200 4K camcorder. There are... Show More

It's Growing On Me

Oct 19, 2015

Like a lot of people eyeballing this camera, I had a DVX100A and B back in the day and shot a TON with those. Mostly corporate stuff but also a bunch of HGTV and some other jobs for broadcast. They were work horses and, if tweaked right, looked awesome. Then I moved on to P2 (yuk) and eventually DSLRs. While I love the look of the DSLRs, running and gunning b-roll can be a drag when you have to change lenses all the time. They all want the look b... Show More

Very Nice Camera, but Caution!

Jun 7, 2016

I have only had the DVX200 for a few weeks, but I'm learning it. This is my first camcorder, so a lot of new things to learn. I'm going to write this review for new people not familiar with a Pro camcorder on this level. My background is mirrorless and DSLR cameras for video. Let me say this about this camera upfront. It's a very nice and well built camera, With ton's of options to learn and use. It does have it's Con's, which I'll get to later. ... Show More

Great first 4K camera

Apr 13, 2018

While some of the functional design might be slightly less than perfect, the images are great. Overall, once we mastered the operation of the unit, we have been quite pleased with the results. We came up thru the Panasonic ranks from a DVX100B, HVX200, to an AC160, and now the DVX200. Going from the 100 to the 160 was a breeze, but moving to the 200 has been a little slower. Again, the images have been very nice: sharp, deep, rich color, incred... Show More

After much research this was my choice. I am happy with it so far.The picture looks gorgeous (and lets be honest, thats what counts with a camera) and i created my own LUT for use with the Vlog Mode and it really looks amazing.THE LCD TURNING OFF IS NOT A DESIGN FLAW IT IS A FEATURE THAT WORKS! so dont be alarmed and return it because you think its shorting out. it turns off when your eye is up to the OLED view finder to save battery. i like it. ... A bit of a learning curve...

Mar 16, 2016

We've had the DVX200 for a week now and little by little I am learning the in's-and-out's. We predominantly shoot corporate videos for YouTube (how-to, product overview, etc.) mostly using Canon's 5D MKIII and XA10. The XA10 was a good starter camera but was a pain to use. With the majority of the controls buried in touch-screen menus we often found ourselves using the auto setting for most of or run-and-gun b-roll. This, along with the benefits ... Show More

A lot of camera for the price

May 12, 2016

I love my DVX200. The number of internal codecs, 4/3-type sensor, the body design in general (size, handle, side grip, servo zoom, individual FIZ controls), layout of buttons and instrumentatio, I/O options, choice of LCD or EVF, scene file customization, under/overcrank capabilities, DCI 4K @ 24.00 fps, among other things, make the DVX200 a highly versatile camera. As of this writing (May 2016) I have the latest firmware (v1.65) installed. The n... Show More

Aug 22, 2017

I bought this camera back in March of 2017 and kept having mixed feelings about it so I waited to write my review. After practicing and working with the scene files, I finally got a picture that I really like. I had the Panasonic HMC150 for 5 years and it was my work horse camera. I've also been using a Canon 60D for video and that DSLR look made it hard to go back to more of a 'video' look. But after going through Barry Green's guide and trying ... Show More

I think it's a beast!

Dec 25, 2015

So finally I got my hands on this camera at the BH store. I played around with this camera for about 90 minutes during my visit and noticed quite a lot. Picture quality is amazing. The images are crisp and sharp. The rings on the lens move around smoothly. I found the v-log L mode the best to shoot (12 stops of dynamic range) especially if you want to spend time color grading. The servo zoom fits nicely towards your fingers when using it. I loved... Show More

I've been a still photojournalist for nearly 35 years, only recently working on short documentary projects. I've shot video with the Canon 60D and the Fuji XT-2 with fine results. A few weeks ago, I was sent to Mexico on a week-long mission trip. Knowing I would be working long days in a variety of locations and would be required to shoot on-site interviews, I needed a run and gun camera. There would be little time for switching lenses or syncing... Show More

Team this with the PIX-E for the Killer 4k Run-n-Gun

Nov 6, 2015

I originally gave this camera a pretty tough review. Honestly I DO WISH it could shoot the similar image highlight, shadow and skin tone as a Sony PMW-EX1 when recording internally. I have not been able to get it to do that. HOWEVER When teamed with the Video Devices PIX-E5 this becomes a whole different camera. Be sure to update the PIX-E5 to firmware ver 1.05 or later so that you can take advantage of 4:2:2 10Bit out. This is where you can fina... Show More

I urgently needed a 4k cam immediately. I had a positive history of purchasing b'cast gear at BH so I turned to them for the first time in years. I discussed with the 'pro' gear advisor the choices available to me. I was leaning toward the HVX 1, but it is new on the market, and there were no reviews available. Jan 5, 2016

This is an excellent tool for shooting most video. Incredibly sharp lens married together with a sensor that has the right amount of Bokeh. It makes sense for the individual that is shooting at events and doesn't want a crazy amount of Bokeh so things that should remaining in focus actually do so. Also put that together with a focusing system that works well and is dependable. Intriguing features such as integrated transitional focus and the abil... Show More

I have had the DVX200 for a few months now and I love it. I shoot a lot of reality travel shows, and it works very well. It replaces a Canon 5D Mark II as my main camera. Though I really like the death of field the 5D offers, the DVX200 does a pretty fine job also. It is a much better camera for the type of work I am presently doing. For only few works I have used it manually. I do have problems with Cine Files. These are really not that good and the extra ones (about 18 more) don't help became you have load and upload which if you are using automation does not please you at all. This is a keeper f... I purchased this camera shortly after release and wanted to give it some time and usage prior to writing a review. Originally, I was also considering the JVC GY-LS300 and Sony a7Sii. As of April 2016, there is still nothing which comes close to the DVX-200 in terms of on board features for a run and gun camera in this price range.
