I would buy this camera again, and I would buy it from B&H

Jun 2, 2017

A friend is a photography and camera enthusiast, and I liked his Olympus Micro 4/3. This is my second, and I LOVE the EM1 Mark ii. It's robust, it is more complex than the M10 but it is actually much easier for me to figure out and get the best from it. The defaults are, for the most part, very close to what I had set up for the M10. I've only had to customize minimally, and it was easy to figure out. And I love the additional buttons and robust ... Great camera but suffers poor reliability and perfornace

Apr 28, 2017

I have been a photographer for over ten year and have been searching for a compact lite weight camera that addresses my shooting needs. My current DSLR camera is some what heavy and suffers from mirror slap (internal vibrations) in continuous shooting mode (C-AF mode). The Olympus Mark 2 had outstanding reviews and per their advertisements would meet my shooting needs. I was very excited when I received my Mark 2 along with the 12-100 f4 and 300 ... Show More

The Next Step in the Evolution

Dec 26, 2016

I haven't even used up a full charge of the new, relatively massive battery yet, but I can already tell this is a huge improvement in ergonomics over the EM-1, which I have loved for the past two years and built the photographic side of my business around. Little things like putting the tripod mount dead center under the lens, reversing the 1-2 switch position and raising the EVF over the pivot/swivel touchscreen so the larger Olympus rubber eyep... Switched and never looked back

Jan 20, 2018

I have waited almost a year before writing this review to give myself time for an honest evaluation. I was a former Canon shooter for probably 30+ years. A couple of years ago I invested in an EM5 MkII and started building a lens collection to match the Pro lineup I was used to with Canon. The first thing I noticed was the richness of colors and less post processing needed in a variety of situations and conditions. However, the one area Olympus w... Show More

Fantastic upgrade from my old EM5

Jan 10, 2017

I fell totally in love with the OMD m4/3 system a few years ago when I bought an EM5 as a smaller, lighter travel camera (vs. my Nikon D7100) and it quickly became the camera I always reached for. For a while I had been debating an upgrade to an EM1, but decided to wait for the mark II, despite the significant price tag. So I sold all my Nikon gear and went 100% Olympus OMD and with zero regrets. The new body solved the one last reason I held on ... Show More

Wow!

Jan 8, 2017

A seriously major upgrade from the earlier EM-1. There are many reviews out there so I won't repeat what has already been said. Most are very positive. Lloyd Chambers and Thom Hogan are very critical of certain aspects of the camera - notably the menu system, small size of the icons for those who are visually challenged and apparent complexity. Fortunately, although I am in my mid 60,s I still don't need reading glasses. I have found that you abs... Show More

What New Can Possibly Be Said At This Point?

Mar 16, 2017

With the purchase of my first generation E-M1 I was pleased, and used it primarily as a travel camera and keep-in-the-car-at-all-times camera; but I also kept my Nikon DSLR system that I have upgraded repeatedly since my days at the Florida Flambeau paper with an F3. Now with Olympus' upgrade in the E-M1Mark II, the more complete release of the PRO lens line, subsequently viewing output on a 5K screen, and some spectacular output to printer testi... Show More

The perfect travel kit . . .

Sep 27, 2017

Having shot Nikon (currently shoot with the D750 and D500) for years, picking a mirrorless system for take with me everywhere purposes was no easy task. There are so many excellent options out there. The biggest mental hurdle I had to get over with Olympus was their sensor size. But once I fully appreciated that you give up very little in IQ or even DOF with the m4/3 sensor format compared to the APS-C format (full frame is another matter), I cou... Show More

Excellent tool for macro/birds

so I brought this little beast and now I have a camera that I can use to handheld focus bracket and stack a macro image of a beetle. honestly, this is the best macro camera on the planet. the stabilization is insane and will help a lot with macro too. your keeper rate and image quality will make a humongous jump if you're a macro shooter and get this camera with the oly 60mm macro. it's very good for birds too: I manage a keeper rate of around 80... An outstanding marvel of complexity! Ive wanted the camera for over a year, based on reporting in Shutterbug and others. The reported fps speed is astounding, the ad photos amazingly sharp. Problem: there are so many types and combinations of settings, for A, S, WB, ISO, and a host of other variables, its taking me a very long time to learn how to use the camera, short of setting the dial on AUTO taking whatever image the camera wants to give me,... Small in size, big in performance

Feb 22, 2018

My first Olympus the EM-5 was an adventure, one I went into mostly because I was interested in a mirrorless camera and second because I didn't want to go on dragging my Nikon 300 as a backup to my Nikon 700. It wasn't a great experiment. The EM-5 was slow, awkward to handle and not terribly versatile. The E-M1 Mark II is terrific, and not just by comparison to the EM-5. It has a great form factor that makes it much easier to handle and makes it e... Show More

Dec 31, 2016

I'll provide a detailed review after more time with this camera. After just 24-hours, so far, I'm impressed with the engineering and thought that's gone in to this model. I'm also an OMD EM-1 owner, and expected the remote shutter release to work similarly - via the USB port. I use the Vello Shutterboss wireless remote so started looking for the correct cable, and then discovered that the Mark II has IT'S OWN remote trigger connector that is NOT ... Show More

Great light weight camera

May 10, 2017

I was looking for a light weight camera, easy to carry around all day and to travel by airplane with. It needed to produce good quality pictures. Keeping this in mind, I found the camera to be the perfect size and weight. I like the pro lens, but they are large and heavy, the only one that fit my bill was the Olympus 12-40 F2.8 pro. Olympus crippled a great camera

Dec 26, 2016

To comply with EU tax rules, Olympus has limited videos to 29 minutes. This makes it impossible to record many symphony performances. I hope that Olympus modifies this for USA customers, even if we must pay for special firmware. Lumix SDXC II cards do NOT work in the camera. But it takes really excellent images. Exposure and color balance are really good. Focusing sometimes has issues if you wish to focus on the background rather than the foregro... Show More

I opted for MFT because of my favorable experience with a Lumix G7 and the variety of lenses available. All I can say is that this camera is just brilliant. I was looking for a lighter alternative to my full-frame camera, and Olympus delivers in a big way.
