Sharp, Fast and BIG and EXPENSIVE Lens
Of all the lenses I have looked at for my Sony A7 so far, the Sony 55mm and 35mm prime lenses have provided the sharpest images. Despite what you might read about the overall quality of these lenses, make no doubt about it, coupled with the auto focus on the Sony A7 cameras, these lenses make extremely sharp images with nice contrast and acceptably attractive bokeh. When Sony introduced the A7 and A7r I knew I had to have one. But which one and, w... Show More

Nice Prime Lens
I acquired this lens to go with my Sony a7r, and with limited choices available opted for this 55mm over the 35mm. I'm very happy I did. The lens has some heft to it, solidly built and the zoom ring feels tight like you would expect from Zeiss glass. I have no issues, but haven't used it much so far.

Excellent Lens!!
This is an amazing prime lens! Fast, light and compact. It's the perfect fit for your FF a7 or a7r. It is a little pricey, but well worth!

BH IS SIMPLE THE BEST
I use this lens as professional photographer, incredible Zeiss, and if you look a premium lens, I say get it!

Brilliantly sharp even wide open
I use this lens extensively indoors in low light and for portraits. Therefore it is mostly set to F1.8, where it is tack sharp in the centre and very sharp in the corners. Bokeh is dreamlike and buttery. The lens is light, though a bit larger than I anticipated. Build quality is good, and the focus ring turns smoothly. Auto focus is fast.

Great optics, a little on the long side
The lens is very sharp and seems optically superior. Materials are of high quality and well crafted. I only wish it was a 50mm and not the awkward 55mm. I almost would have preferred a compact F2, more like the 35 FE. Given the shortage of lens choices in the Sony FE lineup this one is a no brainer. Probably the best optics available on the A7/R

Is this lens worth its high price?
Yes! With several lenses already in hand to try on the Sony A7/A7r at or near the same focal length as the Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Lens (including a Nikon 50mm f1.8 G lens with Rayqual F-to-E adaptor, a Leica 50mm Summilux lens with Voitlander M-to-E adaptor and Sony's own excellent APS-C Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS Lens), and having experienced the joys of shooting with the Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA Lens, I was skeptical that this one wo... Great lens
This lens is unbelievably sharp. I just came back doing some street photography and the results were absolutely stunning. The 3D effect that Zeiss is known for came shining through. I also own the Sony Zeiss 35mm 2.8 which is also very good, but I think this lens is sharper. Not a cheap lens by any means, but you get what you pay for.
