Great Lens for wildlife and sports
First one had issues at far reach. Second is clean and crisp. Great for all the uses it will be put to.

Great, but Sony cheaped out.
Ive had this lens for a few days now and Im very excited to get out and really put it through its paces. The internal zoom is great for balance and, while the lens is heavy, its also not cumbersome or over the top. Image quality seems good and the zoom it great. The lens also comes with strap mounts on the barrel so you can place the weight on the huge lens instead of the camera body stressing the mount, so thats a plus. However, the shade isnt f... Sony FE 200-600 review
I love this outstanding lens! The lens focuses extremely fast and it is very accurate on my A9 & A7R iii. It is definitely a must-buy for me!!!

Quite professional long lens at affordable price.
Optically, this lens's capability will satisfy even more demanding nature photographers' needs. Images are sharp and reasonably contrasty even at 600mm. It's also relatively light and compact which makes life in the wild easier. Build quality appears to be substantial for a long lens in this price range. Time will tell how well it holds up, though I take good care of my equipment anyway.

Great Value, Sharp Optics, and Yes it is Slow
I've had several extensive shoots with this lens, initially as a rental and then using one I purchased. I was concerned by reviews lamenting the slow (dark) nature of this lens, but found for the uses I want it for (primarily wildlife) it is fine for most conditions. I have been pleased by its performance with elk in the field, shooting the moon, and catching birds in flight. If I lived in a cloudier area, did sports photography, or had lots of m... Show More

Update to original post on 8/15/2019
I originally pre-ordered the lens when it was first available and received the lens 2 days after it went on sale. My first copy of the lens had some small debris located between two of the lens elements. BH sent me another lens via overnight mail. The second copy has no defects and works very well with my a6500. The focus is fast and accurate. Just a note.... the debris on the first copy had no effect on the image quality.

Unbelievable for size, quality
This is a wonderful lens for its size, quality and price. I'm rather new to Photography and I have to say this is making me go back to square one on how to shoot properly

Love this lens - even with 1.4
This lens is very sharp even with 1.4x. Im very happy with it. Its a bargain for a sharp (200 to) 600, really. Using it with A7Riii and 1.4x teleconverter, I can see the veins on leaves 200 feet away. Good one even for pixel peepers.

This is a great lens for bird and long distance photography. I recently used this lens for surfers in the ocean and was able to fill a frame with it.

Fantastic Lens
Very sharp, works very well with 1.4 and 2xTC. Balances very nicely with the A7R3. Nothing second rate about this lens.

Not without its problems, but certainly worth the money.
Pre-ordered it, and got it upon arrival to market. Have been shooting with it, mounted on my A9, for the past 10 days (since I got it). Early days (only three sessions so far). It replaced my Sigma 500mm APO DG + Kenko Teleplus x1.4 MC (my go-to setup in the past 3 years) Pros: (1) Lightweight & short, compared even side-by-side with Nikon legendary 200-500, and for sure side-by-side the Tamron 150-600 G2. (2) Very silent focus mechanism, and qui... Show More

Outstanding Lens
This lens is wonderful. Sharp and fast. On the Sony a9 this lens produces images that are sharper and more resolved than the 100-400mm. As a digiscoper the 840mm EFL that this lens produces images that are sharper edge-to-edge than the 875mm EFL produced by my Swarovski rig. A winner!

Big, Heavy, but Sweet
Before this, my longest lens had been 200 mm. I was excited to open new possibilities. The shocker has been the size and weight. I'm sure it compares favorably to other lenses in it's class, but I have never owned one of those. I gave up trying to make a spot in my bag, and carry the lens on it's strap over my shoulder. I would prefer to carry the strap across my chest, but the provided strap is not long enough to carry it that way. So I am about... Show More

worth the wait
I've only had this lens for a few weeks but I'm loving it. Eye and face auto focus work excellent with both the a7r3 and the a9 (with the software updates installed). A bit slower than the 100-400 but seemingly just as sharp. It is also small enough to fit in a medium large camera pack with two bodies, and a 16mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8 and either the 90 mm 2.8 or 135mm. Plus extra essentials. The price is right and if you don't want to carry a 6000 cu ... Show More

Amazingly Sharp
I bought this lens primarily for video at events and concerts, where the extra reach is very useful. The zoom and focus are completely internal, which makes balancing much easier. The image stabilization works well enough for hand-held use down to about 1/100 seconds. However it's too heavy for extended use in that manner, and too wobbly for video. I hope to use it for wildlife too. For fun, I shot the gibbous moon a few nights ago, with amazing results.

What I've been waiting for
The 200-600mm is the prefect product: great price point, very acceptable image quality, internal zoom (big plus!), quick focusing, solidly built, polished functionality. Could it be better? Of course, but if you're looking for 600mm prime pin point sharpness then you'll need to spend $10k more. This lens is so much better than the stone knives & bearskins approach of a Tamron 150-600mm A mount and the A to E adapter. It was awful. It felt like ... Show More

Awsome
The Sony FE 200-600 is a lens that I will use a great deal. I find it extremely sharp and the lens is light and small enough that I can easily carry it in my car and often shoot from the window.

The lens I've been waiting for.
I like to shoot wildlife and bird photography and my only complaint with Sony gear was the lack of affordable, native tele-zooms in the over 400mm range. This takes care of that issue and does it beautifully. I've been using it with an aRII and the results have been fantastic. It's a fantastic lens for the price and being native to Sony, there are no autofocus compatibility issues. If I have a complaint it would be that it's a little heavy at 4+ lbs. but that's nothing compared to the benefits it offers. I own it, love it, and highly recommend it!!

Great lens great price
Being weaned on two RX10s I missed the reach of the 600mm. I looked and tried the 200-400 GM a tack sharp lens. However, I wanted the extra reach. Not being a Pro I wasnt going to spend on a 600 mm f4 lens, the cost of a decent motorcycle. My wait was rewarded with the 200-600mm G. After testing I have found it sharp at @2:1 throughout the range. I found my Acratech with Manfrotto carbon pod allowed too much bounce and sag. While these products ... Show More

Lens is great. Preorder was weeks later than stated
First off, this is a great lens and almost all the reviews will echo that. I have been using it for birding and I tied a 1.4x multiplier to it. With stabilization I've take tons of hand-held shots and am very pleased. I also own the 100-400 which I use on an A7Riii. This lens I use with my A9 because the A9 grabs focus so much better. You get beautiful creamy backgrounds and crisp blow-ups.

Very sharp and responsive
I've had this lens for a couple of weeks and have used it at a daytime NFL game (Chargers vs Saints) and a couple of nighttime Dodgers games. So far, it has been very fast to lock onto focus and images are very sharp. I have used the Nikon 200-500 lens for several years and this one is better. It's equally sharp, but the fact that the zoom range is only about a 1/4 turn is so much better than that Nikon. Also, the Sony doesn't extend as it zooms means it should be better in inclement weather to shoot with.

Pretty decent, great for the price
I had reasonable expectations for this lens, being what it is for $2k. I was not expecting the level of sharpness at pixel peeping level of a $10k+ lens, and if you are, I'd adjust your thinking accordingly. It is pretty sharp for what it is at this zoom range and price point. Focus is fast on my a7r3, especially using the focus limiter on the lens. Images still retain their sharpness with the 1.4x extender; I don't have the 2x to try since betwe... Show More
