must have prime
What a great adition to the gear, the bokeh is smooth as butter, and an absolutely sharp shooter. This lense will always be by my side, and i also own the zeiss 55mm f/1.8 so do yourself a favor of your looking for a new prime for your nex6 or like me for my a6000 get this! Great deal!

great for low light video
I got this lens for my FS5 for a few reasons: -f1.8 takes in 4x+ more light than f4.0 (the stock) -needed continuous autofocus -OSS -prime All of which suit my run and gun style. And it performs as expected. The lens is much much smaller than anticipated, but I consider that a good thing because I like low-profile shooting. The OSS on this is excellent as well. Be aware that this lens (I assume all sony lenses are like this?) the focus ring is el... Show More

Nice solid lens
I have enjoyed taking portraits with this lens. It focuses well, is clear around the edges and pretty light.

Takes beautiful photos
After doing a lot of research, I decided to forgo getting the kit lense and chose this as my first lense to be used mainly for taking product photos. I've loved it so far! Takes very professional looking photos! My only complaint is that I thought I would be able to be a little closer to my subject...I believe that is my own novice error and don't blame the lense!

Great lens for the price
Straight to the point, this lens works great for portraits and close range landscape shots. The focusing works great and when im using my sony a6000 in manual mode, Im able to zoom in and get the exact point i want in focus rather easily. I would recommend this lens to the casual photographer and I would highly recommend choosing this lens of one of the kit options.

Excellent for Museum Work
I can't fully separate the quality of the lens from that of the camera system as a whole. Ergonomically, the lens, paired with the Sony alpha 6000, makes for a compact and nicely balanced combination. I wanted a fast prime lens which, in combination with an APS-size sensor, would allow me to take excellent photographs in museums and similar indoor places where I could not use a tripod. This lens-camera pair has fully met my requirements.

Impressed
I shoot a lot of worship services and 50mm is typically the shortest focal length I use. This lens feels really well made and in keeping with Sony's idea of light weight it certainly delivers. I'm not a pixel peeper, however, I do want a lens that will produce a sharp image. This lens does that and the images appear to be sharp throughout all the f stops and from edge to edge. I haven't noticed any distortion and chromatic aberration is at a mini... Show More

Perfect Lens
I was looking for a lens for a beginner and this is the best in my honest opinion. I will definitely recommend this product to my friends.

Wonderfully shallow depth of field.
Very happy to see what other reviewers have stated: very sharp focus, very small depth of field when wide open, thus very nice for portraits and other artistic use.

Great, bright, lens for E mount APS-C
Probably get this or the 35mm as your first lens. I would honestly skip getting the kit 16-50 lens. Get the 50mm over the Sigma 60mm as it's brighter, 1.8 vs. 2.8, and it has OSS, built in stabilization. Yes, it's more but not that much for the benefits. This lens is very well reviewed on DXOMARK so sharpness is excellent across frame, distortion low. In fact this test almost as good as the 55mm Zeiss Sony lens that costs 4 times as much!! It is also really well built. Feels very high quality and solid. Smooth focus ring and very quiet auto focus.

Amazing
Just what I was hoping for, an amazing lens to give my pictures that quality feel and have that beautiful bokeh! This and the kit lens that the a5100 camera comes with, are a great starter kit!

Ideal lens for indoor portrait shots under natural light
I was looking for a reasonably priced lens for portrait photos with a wide aperture for indoor shots without the need for a flash. I could not be more pleased with this lens. Clarity is excellent while providing beautiful bokeh. This lens is also well-balanced for the Sony A6000.

Amazing lens for the money
This lens looks great, feels great, and performs great. I love the shallow depth of field as well as the large aperture that allows for gracefully soft backgrounds and very sharp/crisp focal points...even in low light! If you have a Sony A5000 or other e-mount, you should really have this lens as well. It's incredibly affordable for it's performance.

Amazing
Very clear very sharp and the lens adjusts automatically for perfect focus. I find it hard to snap a group of people because the lens is not sure who to focus on.

I enjoy taking photographs of family. Often these events happen indoors and the the aperture advantage is certainly an asset.

sharp and clean images
I bought this mainly as a portrait lens. A little too zoomed for me, when buying it I forgot 50mm in a cropped sensor means 75mm, but does the job of bringing nice and sharp images. Only complain is the auto focus feature is not as fast as shown in youtube videos or reviews. I took pics in a marathon and in a burst of 10 pics, about 2 were in focus (average).

Excellent lens
This lense takes such clear photos its unreal. The only problem i have is that since its 50mm i have to be kinda far away to get a good picture of someone. But other than that its great. The autofocus is fast as lightning i couldnt be happier with it

Edge to Edge Sharpness
I've been using this lens on my NEX-7 for a few weeks now and have really been very impressed with the sharpness from corner to corner, especially at 2.8 and above. Having the OSS is a big plus, as my former 50mm prime was an old Canon 50mm 1.4 manual lens. Focus was fast enough for my type of shooting.
