Does the job

Feb 2, 2015

had trouble installing this e-mount to the Sony FS700 camera. It is easy to install it wrong. If so the picture is very dark. I took it off and reinstalled it a couple of tries and it worked right. I was just on the verge of sending it back. It will crop a Super 35mm censor but I knew that going in. Auto focus on it works fine.

Nice lens

Feb 15, 2013

I got this lens for free with a promotion when purchasing an NEX camera. The lens is nice and performs will. The only thing that I wish was for a wide view. I will probably purchase the wide angle conversion lense to get that extra performance I was looking for. Overall the lens is very clear and does what it should.

super sharp lens!

Sep 8, 2010

A must-have if you've got a NEX-5. You can't really see the quality image that the CMOS sensor is capable of with the 18-55 zoom. The 16mm wide angle lens is VERY sharp, corner to corner. It also makes the camera marginally a pocket camera since it's smaller and a lot lighter weight than the zoom. You need this lens!

Just not sharp enough

Jan 12, 2017

I bought to use on a Sony a6500 along with a Sony E 35mm F/1.8 Oss lens. This lens is way too soft in the images and video. Compared to the 35mm, it's not even close. The 35mm is razor sharp for pictures & video with very quick focus. The 16mm will most likely be my first B&H return. It's just not usable.

Great Compact Lens

Dec 9, 2017

I'm pleased with this lens on my Sony a6000. It's lightweight, inexpensive, compact and the autofocus works fine. On the a6000 it's this lens is equivalent to 24mm. which is fine for me. Yes, images are a little soft on the edges, but I've seen worse. I do think a lens shade is a great addition.

Great Light Weight 16mm Wide Angle (67g)

Jun 7, 2018

I purchased the Sony E 16mm f/2.8 wide angle lens to use as a walk around in good outside lighting. For me weight is critical (of course IQ is important but not necessarily with a wide open aperture). For my photos with this lens I will usually be using an aperture between f/5.6 and f/8.0.

Not Impressed

Nov 17, 2019

Light weight and f2.8, sure. Image quality is low. Don't expect more than what you would get from most kit lenses. I used it with my a6500 on a Ronin SC at a live event and am not too happy with the results. I will never use it for a paying gig. Sample: https://vimeo.com/370718777

Good

Sep 1, 2018

Good lenses, but not exceptional. I feel it's autofocus a little slow and it's sharpness is also not what I expected, edges feels always a little blurry. It's small, light but I'm not sure if it's durable. But that's what I think of most Sony products, they are fragile.

Good Value for a Compact Wide Angle Lens

Dec 20, 2011

I bought this lens as part of a 2-lens kit with my NEX-5N body. As such, the 16mm is a great value and allows me to have a compact camera that fits into a jacket pocket. It takes reasonably sharp shots, except around the edges when wide open (f/2.8).

You should buy this if you have NEX!!

Oct 27, 2010

I use it for family photos and indoor event. It is good for Self-Timer. I took lots of photos for myself XD I love wide-angle lens!! I think it is good for buy the 18-55mm lens too. Because sometimes if you want to zoom-in, 16mm can't help you! :(

Zero Sharpness

Sep 26, 2018

I was disappointed with this lens in both daytime and low light situations. This lens is not at all sharp and makes video footage look extremely unprofessional. 10/10 Do not recommend. I would go with the 20mm prime instead. Much more sharp.

good lens for new camera

Nov 11, 2013

this is a bright view wide angle lens which is great for landscapes . only thing a bit negative is the mount is a little stiff -- have to really twist is to make it click on. otherwise recommend as excellend wide angle for this camera.

Sony 16mm 2.8

Nov 21, 2010

Bought this to accompany my 18-55 zoom. It is an ok lens and as of right now, the fastest E-mount they offer. Not that sharp though and from what I have read, is mainly geared toward video. Not bad for $ but don't expect miracles...

Nice WA for the NEX-7

Mar 12, 2013

I bought this lens so I could take advantage of the WA Extender and the fisheye attachments. It is a bit wider than the 18-55mm lens that came with the camera and has the added advantage of f2.8 for good low light performance.

Great for Landscapes and Cityscapes

Very sharp and fast lens. I've used it shooting street scenes, landscapes, construction scenes and nature shots. I really like the fact that the lens is so compact. Make for great panoramas when shooting in panorama mode!

Happy with this lens

Feb 13, 2017

Great pancake lens for a great price. I use this on my gimbal. I also attach an ultra wide convertor to get a wider angle. I like it because it is compact and is convenient for causal walk around shooting. Works great.

It's so light that you just must have it. I love taking photos wherever I go and hate carrying heavy things with me. I have a NEX3F which is really light already, but with this lenses, it's even lighter. Amazing!
