Is this a disposable camera?

Oct 1, 2014

I've been a photographer since 1972; I own many cameras (some of them SONY) and bought the RX-100 in June 2013. For no reason I am aware of, one day in February 2014 I experienced the first major malfunction requiring factory warranty service, replacing the Mounted C.Board CD-847(S), whatever that is. A brief search on the internet shows I'm not alone as others have had the same repair. In September 2014 the exact same malfunction has occurred ag... Show More

Only 75 pictures on full charge???

Mar 4, 2015

I used my Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III for the first time at a guitar concert and didn't anticipate more than 100 shots being taken. To my amazement and disappointment, I got only about 75 shots, mostly no flash, from the first full battery charge. It is advertised and listed in the book as getting 325 shots from a full charge--quite a difference. I could have a defective unit or a defective battery and will have to do some experiments to determine w... Show More

Awesome camera!!

Jul 29, 2014

I was really hesitant buying this camera cause of the price. I wanted a point and shoot I could put in my pocket (depending on the pockets it's a tad big) for times I don't want to lug around my 6d. Also we will be attending several weddings coming up so wanted something that would produce raw files. Also having video was a must. After using it for a couple weeks now I almost don't even wanna use my 6d unless I have too. This thing is AMAZING! Th... Show More

Hard to Hold, Clunky Viewfinder

Feb 27, 2016

The specs and reviews of this camera had me hoping it would be everything I needed in a camera small enough to easily carry everywhere I go yet provide DSLR-like image quality--especially in low light. I'd also purchased simultaneously a Canon PowerShot D5X for my spouse who is a die-hard user of the articulated display that the Sony RX100 doesn't offer. Both of us needed a viewfinder for ease of shooting in bright sunlight. I loved the Sony's ad... Show More

Expected Better Indoor Low Light Photos I bought this camera because of its relative large sensor size & my experience with other Sony cameras and camcorders in hopes this small camera would produce near DSLR quality images and I can use it as a family use every day point & shoot walk-a-round pocket camera in auto mode. My brand new Sony DSC RX100 M3 camera

Jan 27, 2015

I've had my Sony RX100 M3 for only about a week. But in that short time I find myself deeply respectful of Sony for their expertise in producing the incredible little RX100 M3. In a word, it's a gem. It is so packed with features and functions (the articulating LCD and fabulous electronic view finder, for instance) as to be almost overwhelming, especially for a semi-novice such as myself. But, I'm hardly complaining, as I look forward to explorin... Show More

Cumbersome ...wrong buttons pushed

Sep 2, 2014

Sony engineers have taken an awesome product, Version I, and made an interface that is nearly unusable. If you accidentally touch one of the six protruding buttons on the rx-100 III, you will find the camera in one of 68 different modes (up to three menus deep) and/or making unintended camera adjustments to the camera settings. Each mode requires a different sequence to get the camera ready to shoot again. The 37 page user manual is utterly worth... Show More

Nice size, not so nice conrols

Sep 21, 2014

I bought this to travel with, and carry on a daily basis -- and it is easy to do that, compared to my mirrorless. The photo quality is good, and I'm a big supporter of Sony usually, but I'm a little disappointed with the user experience on this camera. My main complaint is that I didn't realize just how much I would miss the touch screen (never had a camera without one). The auto focus isn't good enough to forego a fast, easy touch-to-focus optio... Show More

Great camera when my D800 is too big

Dec 30, 2014

This is a replacement for my Cannon G12. I need a high quality camera to put in my pocket when I don't feel like packing my large DLSR around. I take most of my pictures in Aperture mode in RAW, which this camera does very well. I always like to see what the camera will do in Auto mode. The G12 took the most fantastic pictures in Auto mode. The Sony does a nice job in Auto but it jumps the ISO so high you get quite a bit of noise in the pictures ... Show More

Swiss Army Knife of a pocket camera....

Jul 6, 2014

Firstly, the service and delivery from B&H was stellar. The camera actually arrived the day before they said it would, so I had a little time to get familiar with it before I needed to use it. This is my second RX100 (I already have the Mk2, which I plan to use as a B cam for interviews). I am in a situation where I needed to travel, but because of a recent health issue am unable to carry my normal rig and bag around. The RX100 Mk3 really gives m... Show More

Poor Quality From Sony

Jun 3, 2015

I purchased this camera to have a high-quality pocket camera with a viewfinder but I was wary about a Sony product because the company's products have degraded in quality over the years. Sure enough after a couple of months of occasional use, the lens cover began to stick. Sony originally said they would fix it under warranty but their only authorized repair center, Precision Camera refused to repair it under warranty (cost $) because they claime... Show More

Best Pocket Camera Period

Dec 19, 2014

If you are serious about always having a camera with you, you value IQ and you enjoy video this is THE camera. It is worth every penny. I just returned from spending a month on a very small and dusty island in Greece. The camera never left my front pocket (no case or anything) and the images are better than what my son's big name consumer DSLR delivered within the same limited focal lengths. This is by no means a super zoom or even a portrait zoo... Show More

Nice pictures but hardware issues

Jan 5, 2015

I just got the camera before Christmas and the images are beautiful. I will say that there are occasionally problems with focusing on the wrong area and lighting issues but otherwise the images themselves are great. However, seeing as how I have been using the camera for less than a month, and we have the case made for the camera, I am rather disappointed to report that the lens covering is already jamming every time I turn on the camera. I am retired with grandchildren, so uses include them in both stills and movies - both are specacular. I once was an advanced amatuer photographer with a couple of SLRs and a color darkroom. As I aged I didn't want to carry a DSLR with lenses, so I've been using a Canon A640 for the past 5 years. My wife has a Canon s110, and I used it more often than my Canon because of its size and quality. The Rx100-3 is supirior in every way. It has all of th... Show More

Sturdy construction, great image quality (at the highest setting) great video quality, though I havent yet done any serious video-ing. The shutter button takes some getting used to, theres not the usual play of most cameras where you gently push for focus, then harder to take the pic. I wish it were a hair wider, (longer?) to have a little more gripping area. Very dense (complicated) menus, but I mostly shoot auto anyway, which makes great pics 9... Show More

Improvements over the original RX100

Jul 17, 2014

Having bought the original RX100 almost 2 years ago, I was looking for a replacement that might improve on photos I take of my grandkids as well as a pocket camera to keep on hand on photographic trips when I am principally using a DSLR.
