The Auto Focus and video quality is spot on

Mar 25, 2016

Yes there is rolling shutter. I don't twirl my camera around like all of the sample videos I see so there isn't much of a problem for me. The AF on a Ronin M makes it worth every penny spent. I was saving for the A7R II and I don't need one now. I have used this with the Shogun at 4K and can't tell any difference between the external and internal 4K quality in Resolve or Premiere Pro so I shoot all internal now. I bought this for the auto focus &... Show More

ITS WORTH IT

Jan 17, 2017

actually a friend bought me as a gift , and it has been a total blessing, love this little thing, if you shoot dslr as long as i have, it takes a minute to get use, take your time set up the camera , and it really makes sence after all the non sense in the menu system, but once you get it down, it rocks, fits in my harley jacket nicely i use this as my street night camera, brillant, the kit lens is very nice and the files are sweet, construction ... A big step up from my Canon 70d (video)!

Jan 17, 2017

Small yet powerful little camera. I bought this mainly for semi-pro video work for live band recordings and absolutely love it! The 4k super 35mm is crazy good and pretty clean looking and does really great at higher ISOs that i wouldnt even touch with my 70D. to my eye the iso is a little more noticeable on the other resolutions but still very usable. I was worried about losing my touch focus back screen with the Sony since i was coming from the... Show More

Quality, Performance & Price

Jul 20, 2016

Great ISO range and better noise reduction than the A6000. Very fast Auto-focus system with the EVF being about as good as it can get. Compact but feels a tad bigger & slightly heavier than my previous A6000, has a real quality feel to it. Granted its not waterproof but dust & moisture resistance was important. Absolutely outstanding picture quality with prime lenses. With more & more lens coming out in E-Mount I'm looking for to expanding mycapa... Show More

Pretty good for its price

May 17, 2016

Has exactly what it says. Good camera with good specs at low price. I bought it for video use as a second shot camera during interviews and it was great, good color and quality. Very fast auto focus on the go, lot of options and customization like the other alpha series. If you want to hand held it, it is VERY light and needs a little getting used to. There are downsides but does not have anything to do with the operation or the mechanics. The ki... Show More

Thanks Sony - ugh! Buy the a6500!

Nov 4, 2016

I bought this camera as soon as it was released in March 2016 and Sony already announced the Sony 6500 in Oct 2016. So unfair to Sony early adopters! The a6300 is a good camera for Stills but is lacking in video which is the main reason I bought the camera. The new 6500 adds in-body stabilization and is a much better video camera. I am a professional photographer and videographer that has used the Canon 5D line since it started. I heard a lot of ... Show More

Very great product, of course!!

Mar 23, 2016

As expected, and as shown in all major camera reviews on the Internet, this new a6300 from Sony is very good! My only concern was not about the product, but about the shipping with Puralotor. I choose the basic shipping option, however, from my point of view, this should not mean that the package should be left alone in front of my door all day long, especially when it contains something of such value! It could have been stolen or affected by the... Show More

No Overheating with My Sony

Sep 6, 2016

I am writing in response to the review below with overheating which does not happen with my camera. I am wondering if a zoom lens was used and the camera left on between shots. Two weeks ago I shot 1050 fashion images on a 99 degree windless day at the New Jersey shore mostly in the sun over a period of three hours. I used a 50 mm Zeiss macro lens and turned the camera off when not shooting. We almost died of the heat but the camera kept on going... Show More

Feb 20, 2017

Picked this up at the electronics store with the kit lens just to test it out. I need a camera that can do amazing video and pictures and currently this is the best on the market that has both features. This definitely does the job. I'm fairly new to the game so I'm not go into detail why I like it just because I haven't tested anything else out. However, I ended up picking this up here at B&H because of the $100 gift certificate and there's no t... Show More

Very good

Sep 12, 2018

After about 2000 images, very pleased. Excellent clarity at full range of the 16-55 lens. Controls easy to use, thought takes a while to learn the settings procedures. The Auto setting is fine for scenics, but mediocre for macros - due to fstop and shutter the auto chooses. Only issue so far is occasionally the screen goes blank - my guess is static from hand in my dry climate. Always recovers by rebooting. Haven't taken video. Dropped it once on... Show More

Fantastic camera that is full of impressive feature for the price! S-log is VERY nice to have, 4K at 30 fps, and the buttery smooth 120fps 1080p video is amazing!!! Sony was definitely think about us video guys when they made this camera. Many bad things have gone around with this camera regarding rolling shutter and over heating. But that was back in firmware V1. Currently it runs 2.01 and I haven't really had a problem with either of these in... Show More

Love this camera!

Jun 22, 2016

I had an NEX-5n and swore I'd never buy Sony again because of the overheating issue, even though I loved the image quality. I couldn't resist when they put out the A7Sii and I bought one and love that, too. But the A6300 only differs from the A7Sii in that it has an APS-C sized sensor and it doesn't quite have the low light capability. That said, it still does well in low light and I don't mind the slightly smaller sensor. In fact, when using S-L... Show More

A Great Camera

Sep 24, 2017

After much online research I selected this camera believing it to be a high quality camera that a novice/beginner could use. This has been my experience thus far. I have used the camera for photographing my children in their high school sports and thus have been using the optional 55-210 zoom lens with UV filter & cone. The results in auto mode have been fantastic. I just started playing around with the video function yesterday and also seems gre... Show More

I am a very enthusiastic photographer with a picky taste for lenses. Having said that, i navigate using primes as the GM 85mm, the Sony 24mm, some old school manual focus Zeiss lenses etc. To keep up with my GM, I opted for the a6300 the main reason being the AF capabilities. My GM 85 was performing ok on my a7r but when the kids had a bit too much sugar, it wouldn't keep up. I just finished working on a BD party i shot last weekend with the a630... Show More

Great images poor interface

Nov 22, 2017

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the images with the kit lenses (16-50 mm and the 55-210). The lenses are fairly slow glass but even at high ISOs the image quality is good and the noise is acceptable and can be handled by software. The user interface on the other hand can be much improved. It hurts that the display is not touch sensitive and you need to make the selections via the buttons or wheel. If you are a Mac user, the issues ar... Show More

Great Product and Sales experience

Dec 27, 2016

My old camera was the Sony NEX 7. I have waited almost 5 years to upgrade as I didn't see significant enough improvements. The a6300 has much better low light capabilities. It also has far faster shutter and focus mechanisms. I chose the a6300 over the brand new a6500 because the stability available on the a6500, while impressive, isn't particularly relevant -- all of the longer lenses Sony has have stability anyway. I'll consider the a6500 if an... Show More

Nice little camera. Love it.

Sep 30, 2016

I'm using this camera on a small hand-held gimbal and as my wide shot for dance performances and plays. My other camera, which I follow the action with is the Sony A7s II. The a6300 works perfectly. Matches well with the A7S II no problem. And the image is sharp. I have the kit lens, which is fine for my needs. I use external power and have created a small 9 volt battery and fan to keep it cool if I decide to shoot in 4k. It hasn't shut off from overheating, but I have seen the heat warning for long, 4k videotaping. I put my a6300 in a SmallRig cage with an HDMI clamp when its not on a gimbal.

Happy with my decision to get this camera.

Jul 6, 2017

I had been using a Sony a6000 for about a year and wanted to add a second body to my kit and do some upgrading as well. I researched the a6300, the a6500 and also the A7II full frame. (The B&H website is a great place to do research, by the way.) I decided on the a6300 based on a bag-for-the-buck analysis. I didn't want to spend extra for in body stabilization (I don't do video) and I didn't want to re-buy a bunch of lenses if I went with the full frame camera. I love the improvement in the view finder in the a6300. Using this camera with my 16-70 ZA zoom lens makes the perfect package for me.

Good Autofocus

May 11, 2016

I bought it mainly for shooting video, but I eventually replaced my 5D mk2 as a cmera to carry everywhere. I am not a professional photographer and I still think DSLRs are ahead in focusing time and quality, but the a6300 paired with a small lens (sony 35mm 1.8 in my case) is so much practical. I find myself carrying the camera with me all the time again. With a zoom or bigger lens I don't know if it would make sense. Video is great, and the 120fps in HD is wonderful. For video, the digital viewfinder is great for outdoors, for photo i still miss the mirror. Battery could last longer though.

Great Camera, with HUGE potential.

Feb 27, 2017

Great Camera, with HUGE potential. This camera is fantastic with an amazing potential. The reason i use the word potential is because one needs to understand how to use it and explore the different settings/options it has when it comes to shooting video. There are many resources online that can help and teach you how to do that. I really enjoy the 120 frames p/ second feature, which was what really caught my attention about this camera. Not many DLSRs have this feature, and if you add the right camera configuration with the correct color correction, you can get amazing footage out of it.

Great for Video but not without limiations

May 31, 2016

I purchased this camera for event videography because of it's price and performance in low light. It's performs great but not without limitations. I have not encountered the overheating warning that many people complained out on the internet. However, I did experienced screen flickering after 30+ minutes of continuous use. The camera performs very well in low light. The flip out screen is a bit of a pain for viewing high angle shots. an earphone jack would have been a nice option. The ability to record more than 30 minutes like the Panasonic GH4 would have been a great addition as well.

Sweet Little Pro Grade camera

Mar 13, 2016

Not a perfect camera, but a solid build, very fast Autofocus, Pro grade build and performance. The camera is fun to use with many features... snappy. Wonderful EVF, AF is good at fast frame rates. Feels good in the hand, but almost too small. Noise performance is very good. I have used it with many canon lenses from 8 to 800 mm lenses and a Metabones IV T and have gotten great results under most conditions. I believe it will be sports and wildlife capable in the hands of a pro. In camera apps are just amazing... Sony's documentation continues to be poor, and menues could be better.

Performance Issues

Oct 1, 2016

I own this camera as well as the aR II and pretty much everything from Canon up to the 1dX. The biggest problem with this camera and the aR II is focusing performance. I shoot animals and landscapes and find the focusing performance slow and cumbersome even compared to the Canon SL1 not to mention the 5D Mk III or 7D Mk II. Great specs and good features and ergonomics but the performance is not quite there yet. Further, the lens selection really is abysmal. Canon or Sigma glass is far superior and better performers but does not compensate for the poor focusing performance.
